School counselors are First-Responders as the role and responsibilities continue to increase and the needs of the school community changes. Diversity has notably increased within the last century in school settings. While, the impact of the COVID-19 crisis has shed light on the gaping and persistent inequities faced by marginalized school communities, the heightened racial crisis of 2020 serves as an additional impact to the students within vulnerable communities. School counselors are expected to support students in navigating the impact that these crises bring. The demand for school closure forced students to shift to online platforms. The intersection of the …
Accountability For Lawyers And Lawyer-Bashers: Reflections On Wendel's Canceling Lawyers, David Luban
Accountability For Lawyers And Lawyer-Bashers: Reflections On Wendel's Canceling Lawyers, David Luban
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
This article is part of a symposium on W. Bradley Wendel’s Canceling Lawyers: Case Studies of Accountability, Toleration, and Regret. I agree with Wendel’s two fundamental claims: first, and contrary to the reigning conception, lawyers can be held accountable for choosing to represent a particular client (assuming they have a choice), and therefore that they cannot use their professional role as a “magic shield or force field” (Wendel’s term) to deflect all criticism. Second, however, there is also an ethics of blaming, and critics who blame lawyers irresponsibly can themselves be blamed. One of Wendel’s examples is lawyers who …

More Than A Man: An Ethnomusicological Survey Of The Folklore Of John Henry And Resource Guide For “More Than A Man” By Shanyse Strickland, Clayton R. Heath
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
“John Henry” exists as an enduring folk legend in the United States of America, representing the confluence of the Reconstruction Era, the economic utility of Appalachia and the Westward expansion of industry which left it behind. Though based on historical events, Henry’s fictional representation has diverted and evolved in music and other media from its inception in the oral tradition to the modern age. Through this progression, shared symbols have circulated, gathering embedded meanings and associating the folklore with specific communities. Henry’s representational identity has been signaled with the creation and distribution of each version of his story, both complicating …

The Role Of International, Regional, And Domestic Courts In Transitions Toward Peace And Security, Milena Sterio
Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law
Over the past several years, we have witnessed tremendous violations of international law in situations of conflict and mass violence by both state and non-state actors. In Myanmar, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya have experienced severe persecution and have been forced to flee to the neighboring state of Bangladesh. In Sudan, military groups such as the Rapid Support Forces have been committing serious international crimes in the Darfur region and elsewhere. In Ukraine, Russian forces have targeted civilian objectives and have forcibly abducted children. And in Gaza, Israeli forces have been engaged in various violations of international law over the …
The Rise Of Accountability Mechanisms: The Next Wave Of International Law Justice?, Jacqueline R. Mcallister
The Rise Of Accountability Mechanisms: The Next Wave Of International Law Justice?, Jacqueline R. Mcallister
Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law
Since 2011, the United Nations (UN) has increasingly deployed investigative mechanisms—or commissions of inquiry, fact-finding missions, and other ad hoc investigations—to not just monitor and document egregious human rights abuses, but also to collect, preserve, and analyze evidence in order to lay the groundwork for future accountability. Importantly, these “accountability mechanisms” tend to deploy in places where the International Criminal Court (ICC) lacks jurisdiction or national courts are unwilling or unable to conduct prosecutions. They thus work to counter impunity gaps. However, since their debut, accountability mechanisms have faced immense political, financial, administrative, and institutional challenges, which have hindered their …
Ecocide And The International Criminal Court: Reassessing The African Union-Icc Impasse, Ikechukwu Ugwu
Ecocide And The International Criminal Court: Reassessing The African Union-Icc Impasse, Ikechukwu Ugwu
Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law
The refusal of the African Union (AU) and its leaders to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) led to the negotiation of the Protocol on Amendments to the Protocol on the Statute of the African Court of Justice and Human Rights 2014 (the Malabo Protocol). The Protocol incorporates the core crimes of the Rome Statute and, in addition, expands on the meaning of international crime by defining crimes related to the environment, among others. Although the Malabo Protocol is innovative in its provisions, it lacks the potential to prevent ecocide in Africa or to serve as a model for …
Institutional Authority Without Ratification: Rethinking International Organizations’ Governance In The Post-Treaty Era, Izadora Coutinho
Institutional Authority Without Ratification: Rethinking International Organizations’ Governance In The Post-Treaty Era, Izadora Coutinho
Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law
This Article examines the growing normative authority exercised by international organizations through informal governance mechanisms that operate without treaty ratification or formal consent. It argues that international law is undergoing structural transformation: global standards increasingly emerge from flexible, network-based arrangements rather than negotiated treaties. Using the OECD/G20 Global Anti-Base Erosion (GloBE) Rules as a case study, this Article illustrates how nonbinding instruments can generate de facto binding effects. Their adoption by numerous jurisdictions reflects systemic incentives, reputational pressures, and tax base erosion threats. While such mechanisms enhance flexibility and responsiveness, they also raise significant concerns about legitimacy, sovereignty, and accountability. …

They use the same sources to write papers in two different disciplinary genres, adapting their selection and use of evidence to each genre’s conventions, audience, tone, and style. The process emphasizes personal intellectual engagement, responsible use of AI, self-assessment, and the understanding that strong academic writing develops through sustained revision.
The Lived Experience Of Intimate Partner Violence For Females In Emerging Adulthood: A Qualitative Study, Laurel Dobkin M.S.
The Lived Experience Of Intimate Partner Violence For Females In Emerging Adulthood: A Qualitative Study, Laurel Dobkin M.S.
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
Emerging adulthood is the developmental period between ages 18 to 25 where individuals begin to explore their worldviews and develop intimate relationships. This period is important for developing a sense of identity and self (Arnett, 2000, 2014). During this period, negative events or relationships, such as intimate partner violence (IPV), may have detrimental effects (Erikson, 1968; Barreto & Frazier, 2012). While literature suggests that IPV has high rates and negative consequences in emerging adulthood (Bhattacharjee & Gopal, 2022; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2024; Shen & Kusunoki, 2019), there is little research on the subjective experience of females …

Fear, Delay, And Preventable Death: Rethinking Wyoming's Legislative Framework To Reduce Barriers In Overdose Emergency Reporting, Shoshana Sangros
Fear, Delay, And Preventable Death: Rethinking Wyoming's Legislative Framework To Reduce Barriers In Overdose Emergency Reporting, Shoshana Sangros
Wyoming Law Review
This Comment asks whether Wyoming’s current immunity framework for reporting overdoses truly reduces delays in emergency treatment when distance, weather, and limited emergency medical service (EMS) capacity already regularly extend response times. It proposes that by amending two Wyoming statutes and funding statewide education, the goal of reducing barriers to calling 9-1-1 to report overdoses can be better achieved, and residents better protected. To support these proposed changes, Part II provides a concise account of relevant Wyoming statutory protections. Part III proposes specific amendments that would address the on-the-ground challenges of the Wyoming emergency response system. These adjustments will utilize …

Medications For Opioid Use Disorder In Correctional Facilities: A 2022 Cross-Sectional Survey Of Health Care Staff, Claire Wolfe, Sabrina Gaiazov, Dr. Pamela Valera, Will Mullen, Ross Macdonald, Christian Heidbreder
School of Social Work Faculty Publications
A national, anonymous, online survey was administered inviting 3,161 correctional health professionals to examine the associations between facility characteristics and the availability of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in jails and prisons. Responses from 268 participants representing 212 correctional facilities were analyzed. We used multivariate logistic regression to identify associated facility characteristics, and open-ended responses were analyzed using content analysis. Facilities in the Western United States had higher odds of providing MOUD compared with those in the Midwest (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 3.67, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.28–10.99). Jails had higher odds of offering MOUD than prisons (AOR …

Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy And Alcohol Use Disorder, Zoe R. Evans
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This current paper has studied whether the psilocybin-assisted treatment has been linked with meaningful shifts in three clinical outcomes among adults 18 years old and above diagnosed with alcohol use disorder (AUD): percentage of heavy drinking days, abstinence rates, and neural responsiveness to alcohol-related cues. A literature review following a systematic approach was performed using guidelines from PRISMA 2020 based on four databases, namely PubMed and PsycINFO, and Scopus and CINAHL, where peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2026 were included. A semi-structured professional interview with a clinical researcher in the Division of Addiction Sciences of Marshall University was also …

The United States has increasingly recognized its reputation as a prison state, with widespread acknowledgment of its high incarceration rates. As of 2021, the United States imprisoned one out of every five prisoners in the world. Additionally, of its own population, the United States imprisoned one out of every one hundred people.
In response to this notoriety, worsening prison overcrowding, and the heightened risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and the federal government increased their utilization of alternative measures to traditional incarceration. As both an addition and an alternative to traditional incarceration, criminal …
Women’S Exposure To Incel Content, Perceived Safety, And Gender-Based Violence Risk In The United States, Deja Bledsoe
Women’S Exposure To Incel Content, Perceived Safety, And Gender-Based Violence Risk In The United States, Deja Bledsoe
Criminology & Criminal Justice Theses
The rapid proliferation of incel-related content across digital platforms has raised concerns about online misogyny and its potential impact on women’s perceived safety. However, less is known about how exposure to such content shapes women’s perceptions of risk and emotional responses in everyday digital environments. This study examines the relationship between exposure to incel-related content and women’s perceived risk of gender-based violence and safety-related anxiety. Guided by strain theory, social control theory, hegemonic masculinity, and intersectionality, the study employs an anonymous cross-sectional online survey of women aged 18 and older. Quantitative analyses were conducted to assess whether exposure to incel-related …
Modern Privacy, Outdated Doctrine: A Four-Factor Approach To Fourth Amendment Analysis, Ilinca Slabu
Modern Privacy, Outdated Doctrine: A Four-Factor Approach To Fourth Amendment Analysis, Ilinca Slabu
Washington Law Review Online
The Fourth Amendment, which protects individuals against unwarranted searches and seizures, has been at the center of many questions recently due to advancements in technology. Technology has evolved to a point where it is no longer necessary to enter someone’s physical space to know what is happening inside a home. This has led to many ambiguities between what is private and public, and what technology usage constitutes a search under the Fourth Amendment. We have reached a critical point that requires a clear test to determine this question to protect the privacy of individuals.
This Comment proposes a new framework …

Widening The Avenues For Rehabilitation And Release In The Criminal Legal System Through A Revision Of The First Step Act's Safety Valve Provision In Response To Pulsifer, Drew Svensson
Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights & Social Justice
The note argues that the Supreme Court's decision in Pulsifer v. United States severely undermines the First Step Act by restrictively interpreting the safety valve provision, thereby limiting judicial discretion and increasing incarceration. To remedy this, the note proposes legislative revisions to the safety valve to expand eligibility for relief from mandatory minimums while maintaining public safety.
