Philippine Pastoral Implications Of Pope Francis’ Vision Of Youth Evangelization, Edrylle C. Dayrit Jan 2022

Philippine Pastoral Implications Of Pope Francis’ Vision Of Youth Evangelization, Edrylle C. Dayrit

Loyola Papers

The article gathers five key themes from the Pope’s teachings, applies them specifically to youth evangelization, and underlines their pastoral implication: (1) the missionary mode of evangelizing, (2) the agents of youth evangelization, (3) synodality and accompaniment, (4) the culture of encounter, (5) and the joy of the Gospel. Drawing mainly from the seminal document Evangelii Gaudium and the Pope’s Exhortation to and on the Youth, Christus Vivit, the author offers a practical synthesis of the Pontiff’s vision of evangelization - which is not necessarily limited to youth ministry - and identifies its essential features that aim to bring out …

Quaker Religious Thought

ABOUT THIS ISSUE

There are moments of change and turbulence and anxiety and outrage that punctuate our lives, whether anticipated or not. There are also times when we, as a human community, are confronted on a corporate level with shared experiences of anxiety and ambiguity, anger and angst. As I think back on what has transpired since I wrote the editorial for the Spring issue of QRT in February, I am struck by how quickly our lives can change and how suddenly we as a society may be called to adapt to new realities, like wearing a face mask, and …

Suicide Prevention For The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Tiffany M. Manor Jan 2022

Suicide Prevention For The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Tiffany M. Manor

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The problem that this research addressed is the lack of a Lutheran training framework for suicide prevention in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) in which ministers learn to identify and respond to congregants and colleagues who have suicidal thoughts and wish to die. In response to the problem, this research began with a theological study of three biblical characters (Elijah, Job, and Jonah) that expressed a wish to die. Following the theological study, the researcher reviewed current literature on existing suicide prevention models, best practices for suicide prevention, and pastoral care for people who have suicidal thoughts. The …

The Relational Church: Being For And With Youth, Joseph Brett Wiederhold Jan 2022

The Relational Church: Being For And With Youth, Joseph Brett Wiederhold

Seattle Pacific Seminary Projects

The mainline church, present with youth, could begin to recognize the presence of youth in our worship services, prayer teams and leadership teams as adding value and depth to the community of believers. Youth outside of the church are hurting and desperate for belonging. Youth need relationships; youth need Jesus! Despite the church’s history of marginalizing youth, declining numbers and seeming irrelevance amongst the current Generation Z youth, the church can fulfill a vital role in seeing youth as people created in the image of God, allowing God’s church to reach our hurting world by way of the young people …

After-school programs offer students another opportunity to receive mentorship and build relationships that can impact the trajectory of their lives. This paper highlights Impact 180 – an after-school program located in Orange City, Iowa. The involved researchers used and discussed different community organizing methods and techniques to advocate for and raise funds for the durability, sustainability, and flourishing of …

Quaker Youth Ministry And Theopraxis In A Multicultural Context, Nim Njuguna Jan 2022

Quaker Youth Ministry And Theopraxis In A Multicultural Context, Nim Njuguna

Quaker Religious Thought

"Theology is exciting. It is about God’s word, God’s world and God’s people. It is vitally important for the church to nurture young Christians into thinking, speaking and writing about God and the world, and it is even more important that the Church listen to their voices. Theology Slam encourages us to do just that: listen to God, listen to the world, and listen to the voices emerging within the Church, so we can join into God’s work in the world today.” —Archbishop Justin Welby – Archbishop of Canterbury 1 As Quakers, we believe there is that of God in …

Luhansk (Donbas): Religious Freedom Survey, February 2022, Felix Corley, John Kinahan Jan 2022

Luhansk (Donbas): Religious Freedom Survey, February 2022, Felix Corley, John Kinahan

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

Freedom of religion and belief is severely restricted in the rebel Luhansk People's Republic occupying currently (February 2022) about a third of Ukraine's Luhansk Region. Forum 18's survey analysis documents violations including: rendering illegal all Protestant and non-Moscow Patriarchate Orthodox communities; a climate of fear about discussing human rights violations; repeated denials of permission to a Roman Catholic priest to live in the region; and increasing numbers of banned allegedly "extremist" books, including an edition of the Gospel of John published in 1820.

All human rights including the freedom of religion and belief are severely restricted in the rebel self-declared …

Spirituality And Community: A Quantitative Analysis On Spirituality As A Pathway To Psychological Sense Of Community Among First Year Minoritized Students, Jason B. Stephens Jan 2022

Spirituality And Community: A Quantitative Analysis On Spirituality As A Pathway To Psychological Sense Of Community Among First Year Minoritized Students, Jason B. Stephens

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Throughout much of American history, spirituality has played an important role in the lives of students of color. This has led to students of color tending to have higher levels of spiritual identity compared to their White peers. Additionally, we have seen increased access to higher education for previously underrepresented student populations. Researchers demonstrated that students with a strong spiritual identity tend to perform better academically, persist to graduation, have more intentional mentoring, and connect better with peers, all of which are common factors of student success. Yet, students of color continue to lag behind their White peers in these …

God's Story, Our Story: Telling, Re-Telling, Re-Storying, Kara Carter Jan 2022

God's Story, Our Story: Telling, Re-Telling, Re-Storying, Kara Carter

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Shifting trends within and beyond the walls of the church are reshaping Christianity in our present context. Many Christian denominations are in the midst of a paradigm shift as great as or greater than the 16th century Reformation. Because the way forward looks nothing like the path the church has journeyed, church leaders, theologians, and scholars recognize the need for innovative and adaptive leadership expertise to meet the opportunities and challenges of the present time. For more than two decades, Mennonite Church Canada congregations have been on a journey of development, learning, and growth, transitioning theologically and experientially to a …

A Strategy For Planting A Growing Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Rivers West Conference, Nigeria, Smart B. Maduagu Jan 2022

A Strategy For Planting A Growing Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Rivers West Conference, Nigeria, Smart B. Maduagu

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Rivers-West Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church, like most Seventh-day Adventist Conferences in Nigeria, is growing at 1% (GC Statistics 2020) while the population of Nigeria is growing at 2.5% (The World Bank Data, 2021). The local Adventist church membership growth is not matching the country's population growth when compared to the obvious spontaneous growth of other Christian churches like the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG) which began thirty-eight years after the advent of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria; they have about twenty thousand (20,000) churches (History and Growth of RCCG, 2014) while the Seventh-day Adventist Church in …

A Cross-Cultural And Cross-Ethnic Model Of Integrated Ministry To Second-Generation Immigrant Youth In The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Dublin, Dan-Gheorghe Serb Jan 2022

A Cross-Cultural And Cross-Ethnic Model Of Integrated Ministry To Second-Generation Immigrant Youth In The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Dublin, Dan-Gheorghe Serb

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Dublin, like most major cities in Western Europe, is a multicultural and multiethnic city. Most members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Dublin are first-generation immigrants who tend to import their native brand of Adventism into Dublin local churches. Moreover, outside the church worship experience, immigrant members are inclined to gravitate toward mono-ethnic and mono-cultural interactions. Their children are the New Irish and are thus better integrated into Irish culture and society. This situation seems to destabilize young people in the church, with many second-generation immigrant Generation Z youth showing disinterest in church life, and some of them leaving …

A Model For Identifying, Developing, And Installing Elders In The Church: The Path Family Church Has Taken, Stephen Harrison Jan 2022

A Model For Identifying, Developing, And Installing Elders In The Church: The Path Family Church Has Taken, Stephen Harrison

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The problem is that Family Church does not identify, develop, and install their potential elders well. This intervention research project addressed this problem by establishing prerequisites for elder identification, a seven-week elder training workbook, and guidelines for installation after the research project. Current elders at Family Church completed a questionnaire, participated in case studies, and evaluated their intervention project in a focus group to establish an effective method of identifying, developing, and installing potential elders. This intervention research project produced a list of prerequisites for identifying potential elders, a seven-week elder training manual, and clear guidelines for ordaining elders at …
