Improving Ministerial Effectiveness In A Multi-Site Church, Randa M. Ross
Improving Ministerial Effectiveness In A Multi-Site Church, Randa M. Ross
Education Dissertations and Projects
In the modern church, it is not uncommon for churches to be comprised of congregations that worship at multiple locations offering several worship times and some even offering a virtual worship experience. In order to effectively manage Sunday worship along with other church activities, churches rely heavily on their congregants to volunteer in the various church ministries. The need for actively engaged volunteers is only amplified when the resources are spread across multiple campuses. The Park Church is one of those churches presented with the challenge of Improving Ministerial Effectiveness at a Multi-Site Church.
The Park Church desired to improve …
Change In Resilience In At-Risk Youth After Participation In Outreach Program, Samantha Collazo
Change In Resilience In At-Risk Youth After Participation In Outreach Program, Samantha Collazo
Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Capstone Projects
Abstract
BACKGROUND: Resilience, or the ability to bounce back from adverse events, is a skill that can be taught through targeted interventions. One intervention that has not been studied to increase resilience is youth outreach. Lifting up Camden’s Youth (LUCY) is an outreach program that has helped thousands of at-risk youth of the inner-city population in Camden, NJ to overcome traumatic experiences and succeed academically. The “7C’s of Resilience tool” is a succinct and validated tool to measure resilience in adolescents.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the potential increase in resilience in youth after participating in LUCY, further identifying the relationship between …
After-School Programs: Benefits, Challenges, And Opportunities, Alexandra Brewer
After-School Programs: Benefits, Challenges, And Opportunities, Alexandra Brewer
Integrated Studies
After-School programs have an extraordinary impact on the lives of students, no matter their socio-economic backgrounds or personal lives. Implementing such programs into school systems results in long-term benefits for students, including established morals, life skills, and goal-setting. This paper will explore research about all the different elements that make after-school programs what they are today. The history of such programs will be fully examined, as well as how children benefit from opportunities presented through the many different aspects of after-school programs. The reader will not only gain a better understanding of exactly what after-school programs are, but they will …

Emerging Trends In Confirmation And Equivalent Practices, Terri L. Elton, Katherine Douglass, Richard Osmer
Emerging Trends In Confirmation And Equivalent Practices, Terri L. Elton, Katherine Douglass, Richard Osmer
Faculty Publications
This article highlights the findings of The Confirmation Project research, a mixed methods project that studied confirmation and equivalent practices in five denominations in the United States. (The denominations were United Methodist, Presbyterian USA, African Methodist Episcopal, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the Episcopal Church.) What that discovered was confirmation can provide an opportunity for young people to encounter the gospel anew. It is an important ministry when it strengthens young people’s understanding of faith, deepens their experience with Christian community, and equips them to discern their calling to join in God’s mission in the world. As congregations …

Belong, Become, Believe: A New Model For Children's Ministry Building Toward A Holistic Vision Of Discipleship And Diversity In Multi-Ethnic Children's Ministry, Katey Hage
Seattle Pacific Seminary Theses
As the Church in the United States grapples with challenging issues of race and racism that permeate our world, children’s ministry is also impacted by these very same issues and lived experiences for a diverse community of people. This thesis seeks to help the church acknowledge that all children have particular racial and cultural identity that is formed within family and social system contexts; and it seeks to affirm the belief that children are God’s good creation and made in the image of God. With these truths in place, connections can be drawn between a child’s cultural and racial identity …

Cooperation, Not Competition: Utilizing A Shared Small-Group Discipleship Experience To Create Interchurch Partnerships Between First Baptist Church And First United Methodist Church In Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Thomas Paul Batson
Doctor of Ministry Projects
The future of ministry will involve many churches forming interchurch partnerships to share resources to maximize ministry effectiveness and stewardship of assets. A small group between members of First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, NC, was formed to explore biblical themes of partnership and discuss logistical issues and how they might be obstacles to partnerships. Surveys measured participants’ perceptions of their doctrinal knowledge, attitude toward partnership, and perceived difficulty in dealing with the logistics of partnership. Discussion, reflection, and interviews contributed to the interpretation of survey data. Results indicated that a shared small group experience …

Transformative Youth Organizing: A Decolonizing Social Movement Framework, Emily Estioco Bautista
Transformative Youth Organizing: A Decolonizing Social Movement Framework, Emily Estioco Bautista
LMU Theses and Dissertations
The compounding experiences of colonial miseducation of youth of color, neoliberal policies and logics in urban communities, colonial logics that render the role of spirituality in social movements as invisible, and adultism in legal and social institutions constrain the transformative possibilities of youth agency in social movements. This study explored (a) how educators working in youth movements can build a decolonizing paradigm and practice for transformative organizing and (b) new paradigmatic interventions and theoretical directions that can help inform a transformative youth organizing approach. The research was conducted through a decolonizing interpretive research methodology (Darder, 2015a) and utilized the interrelated …
World Youth Day: An Australian Perspective, Anthony Cleary
World Youth Day: An Australian Perspective, Anthony Cleary
Theses
World Youth Day has become the largest regular gathering of young people in the world, attracting hundreds of thousands, and on occasions, millions of participants. The size and scale of this Catholic religious event, and its generation of tourism and mass media coverage, help define the gathering as a mega-event with international significance.
Since its inception, Australians have participated in each of the international World Youth Days, and this participation has grown and diversified. Perhaps the most significant factor in this period, described by some as a ‘watershed moment’, was the influence and impact of an Australian city hosting World …
The Transformation Of Asian Fathers: From Distant, Income Provider And Disciplinarian To Forgiven, Discipler & Benefactor, Victor Quon
Doctor of Ministry
Asian fathers have a tough road to travel upon. The proper image of the father is one of the least successful cover-ups in today’s Asian church. On the surface, there is the attempt to portray him as being successful in his career, confident in his identity and respected as a spiritual leader in his home. Yet when his children are asked to discuss family relationships in the youth group, a different picture comes into focus. It is one of emptiness, distance and sometimes resentment. The typical stereotype of the stern father who shows more care for his personal success and …
