Análisis Comparativo Del Uso De Materiales En La Interfaz, Entre Planet Paradise Y The Wandering Village (2024), Sergio Castro De Lucas

Visualizing Communication Disorders Through Art, Adriana Reyes Jan 2024

Visualizing Communication Disorders Through Art, Adriana Reyes

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

This art series visualizes the signs, symptoms, and intervention strategies for various speech and language disorders. The illustrations were lightly sketched onto the canvas and oil-based paint was used as the medium. In the art series, the disorders depicted are childhood apraxia of speech, dysarthria, articulation disorder, and aphasia. The public and parents may be uninformed or have misconceptions about communication disorders. Therefore, it is important to educate others about communication disorders to construct a network of support, respect, and learning different ways to communicate since speech and language disorders can make a profound impact on a person’s life.

Community Impact: Murals & Public Art, Annie Dong

Theses & ETDs

This thesis project integrates social practice and multiculturalism theory with public art murals and involves producing art in both gallery spaces and public spaces resulting in two large mural installations that examine the benefits that public art and social activism have on communities, drawing inspiration from artists including Judy Baca and Michelle Angela Ortiz. Through this work, I examine both the role of public murals as a catalyst for community building as well as the impact of adolescent participation in the creation of community murals on their well-being using the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Theory (BPNS). As part of the …

Reading Between The Lines, Nicole Fox

Library Faculty Scholarship

Maps serve so many functions in today’s classrooms - maps can be anything from information sources to a final project in a wide variety of disciplines. Having the right tools and knowledge to understand and evaluate these vital resources will allow people to become more effective researchers in any discipline. This chapter focuses on the idea that maps, just like other kinds of information, need to be critically evaluated in order to be used ethically and effectively. The chapter opens with a practical discussion of why maps need to be evaluated, and will include examples of bias and agenda in …

Textiles, Dress And Politics: A Diachronic Perspective Through The Case Studies Of Ancient Rome And Medieval Iceland, Meghan Korten, Zofia Kaczmarek Jan 2024

Textiles, Dress And Politics: A Diachronic Perspective Through The Case Studies Of Ancient Rome And Medieval Iceland, Meghan Korten, Zofia Kaczmarek

Textile Crossroads: Exploring European Clothing, Identity, and Culture across Millennia

People dress for more than just aesthetic reasons. Over the centuries, dress became a sign of human civilization, allowing us to identify the origin, gender, and status of the wearer. Textiles and clothing influence our body, posture, movements, and the way we are perceived by society. Textiles are also a tool used by people to further their agenda, that is why they found their place in the political life of many ancient and modern societies.

According to Michel Foucault, power can be understood as a set of activities influencing the life of the other: It provokes, forbids, or permits, but …

Of Minutemen And Boomers: Fallout And Doing History In Imagined Space, Marissa Paige Schuling

CGU Theses & Dissertations

On October 23, 2077, the world as known to the average American ends abruptly with the onset of the Great War, transforming the United States into a nuclear wasteland and setting the stage for the Fallout series of role-playing video games by Interplay Entertainment and Bethesda Softworks. Set in a post-apocalyptic future yet steeped in 1950s American ideals, Fallout merges historical fiction with sci-fi fantasy, exploring themes of American exceptionalism, hyper-Capitalism, anti-communism, nuclear anxiety, and militarism through exaggerated symbols of Americana. This thesis posits that Fallout serves as a critique of Cold War America's paradoxical utopianism and paranoia, highlighting the …

Why People Use Social Media: An Investigation Of Engagement On An All-Service Platform, Steven Bauer, Fang Tian Jan 2024

Why People Use Social Media: An Investigation Of Engagement On An All-Service Platform, Steven Bauer, Fang Tian

All Faculty Open Access Publications

This study provides the first investigation of the complete group of variables in the expanded theory of uses and gratifications on consumer engagement in an all-service social media platform. Consumer engagement is measured both from a psychological state and behavioral perspective, an approach which is important since the antecedent variables in uses and gratifications theory have both psychological and behavioral manifestations. A survey is conducted in Mainland China on WeChat with 805 respondents. Antecedent variables and consumer engagement are measured using previously validated scales. Regression analyses find that the antecedent variables of entertainment, integration/social interaction, personal identity, information, remuneration, and …

Nordstrom And Generation Z, Emma Squires

Major Papers by TMD Master of Science Students

This study aimed to investigate the influence of Nordstrom's business practices on the shopping behavior of Generation Z consumers. With the rise of technology and changing consumer preferences, it is crucial to understand how department stores like Nordstrom can adapt to the purchasing habits of this emerging consumer segment. The significance of this study lies in filling the research gap regarding Nordstrom and its engagement with Gen Z. Existing literature primarily focuses on older generations and lacks any insights into the purchasing behavior of Generation Z consumers, especially when it comes to department stores.

Gen Z consumers are defined as …
