Health Information Seeking Behaviors And Consumer Reponse To Scope Of Practice Expansion, Benjamin Kim May 2025

Health Information Seeking Behaviors And Consumer Reponse To Scope Of Practice Expansion, Benjamin Kim

Economics Honors Theses

This paper leverages state level variation in scope of practice (SOP) regulation to identify the effect of expanded SOP on healthcare consumer interest. Focusing on google trends search intensity as a proxy for consumer interest this paper utilizes a two-way fixed effects model to estimate the consumer response to healthcare policy. Further I utilize an event study framework to detect a treatment effect of SOP. I find no statistical evidence of an effect of SOP on search intensity utilizing the event study framework. The two-way fixed effects model indicates a positive effect of SOP on consumer interest without controls but …

Aiming High: A Narrative Inquiry Of Christian Music Educators’ Higher Purpose, William E. Rhoden Iii May 2025

Aiming High: A Narrative Inquiry Of Christian Music Educators’ Higher Purpose, William E. Rhoden Iii

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Educators in the United States may question music education’s higher purpose, considering high-stakes testing and an emphasis on non-musical subjects. This qualitative narrative study examines three American protestant Christian music educators’ perceptions of music education’s higher purpose and compares them to Martin Luther’s (1483-1546) writings. The researcher conducted interviews with three participants to record the story of how they developed their higher purpose for music education. The data was tabulated and coded for thematic analysis. This study supports a Christian defense of continued music education in America’s schools, distinguishes modern Christian perspectives, and offers a fresh understanding of the historical …

Optimizing Parasport: A Comparative Study On Experience And Perception Variance Across Practiced Models, Aidan Crawford

Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium

Organizations that provide sport for people with disabilities (referred to as parasport) have evolved significantly over the past century, with various models shaping the experiences of athletes with disabilities. Previous research examining parasport has mainly looked at participation barriers and individual outcomes of physical health or psychological well-being; however, little research has examined how different organizational models of parasport influence athlete experiences and perceptions. The purpose of this study is to examine three distinct models of parasport--mixed participant approach (MPA), segregated disability sport (SDS), and adaptive sports (AS)-- to assess their potential in providing equitable, enjoyable, and health-promoting experiences for …

Comparing Crawling Development In Children With Limb Loss/Limb Difference To Typically Developing Children, Larissa Brehm, Analise Oliver, Maya Tulchinsky, Diana Mansouri, Mark Daniel Geil

Symposium of Student Scholars

The CDC removed crawling as a milestone for children developing as of 2022[1], due to insufficient data and definitions. The purpose of this study was to collect data using a pressure mat and quadrupedal gait software on infant crawling patterns in children with limb loss or limb difference (LLD) and typically developing (TD) children in order to understand both how children with LLD crawl, and which parameters detect differences. The data collected was then converted into measurable outcomes such as cadence, velocity, weight distribution, and stance support.

The long-term objective of this study is to understand the quantitative parameters that …

Effect Of Volume On Pacing During High Intensity Functional Training, Haja Kabba, Caralynn Doese, James Henley, Kristyn Mcgeehan, Wil King, Gerald Mangine

Symposium of Student Scholars

Each high-intensity functional training (HIFT) workout may vary its structural design, incorporate different exercises, and prescribe different intensities and volumes. This creates infinite possible combinations, and with so many dynamic factors, it is unclear how each change alters how one completes a workout. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of altering volume only on HIFT pacing. Ten men and nine women (27.0 ± 7.6 yrs, 173 ± 8 cm, 79.3 ± 11.0 kg) with ≥6 months of HIFT experience completed two experimental workouts that differed in volume. Participants completed five rounds of power cleans (men: 52.2 …

Cuju: The Ancient Chinese Game That Held An Empire Together, Enzo H. Smith Apr 2025

Cuju: The Ancient Chinese Game That Held An Empire Together, Enzo H. Smith

Young Historians Conference

This paper explores how cuju, an ancient sport known as the predecessor of modern football, evolved from the Han to Song dynasties (206 BCE–1368 CE) as a unifying force in imperial China. Calling upon primary sources such as ancient cuju manuals and various art pieces suggests this sport's importance went beyond a leisurely practice. Using academic journals about Chinese history and the development of cuju from different academic fields and, most notably, the FIFA museum’s online exhibit of cuju, the reason cuju had such a strong place of value in Chinese society was apparent. Beginning as a combat exercise in …

Bedtime Or Game Time: The Impact Of Chronotype Matching On Spectators Moods, Callie Hart

Honors College Theses

Chronotypes have been shown to affect various aspects of life including health and day to day activities such as eating and exercising (Pacheco & Rehman, 2022). Research also indicates that chronotypes can have a direct impact on a person’s mood (Kim et al., 2021). The purpose of the current study was to examine the relationship between peoples’ chronotype and their mood at a sporting event. It was hypothesized that participants who attend the game at their preferred chronotype time will report being in a better mood and have higher levels of energy than if they attend a game that starts …

Don’T Cut The Cameras: How Media Coverage Has Impacted The Growth Of Women’S Professional Sports In The United States, Lauren Ehrman

Undergraduate Theses

The growth of women’s professional sports in the United States has long been tied to the level and quality of media coverage these leagues receive. This paper examines how media exposure impacts the success of women's sports, with a focused case study on Racing Louisville FC. By analyzing Racing Louisville’s media presence alongside its attendance numbers, this study highlights how limited coverage can stunt fan engagement and broader support. In addition, the paper emphasizes the importance of fair comparisons, suggesting that women's leagues should be evaluated at similar stages of development as men’s leagues, particularly when assessing success at the …

In our after-school tutoring program, we set out to create a series of educational games that make learning exciting, interactive, and engaging for our 3th through 5th graders. We designed activities that encourage students to think critically, work together, and apply their knowledge in creative ways. Our games focus on key academic areas like math, reading, and problem-solving, but they also help build communications, teamwork, and a love for learning. From fast-paced challenges that test quick thinking to strategy-based puzzles that require collaboration, each game was developed with the …

Game Changers: The Impact Of Female Representation In Sports Media On Girls' Youth Sport Participation, Kaci L. Huff Apr 2025

Game Changers: The Impact Of Female Representation In Sports Media On Girls' Youth Sport Participation, Kaci L. Huff

Undergraduate Theses

This thesis examines how female representation in sports media impacts girls' youth sport participation rates. Using a review of current literature and original enrollment data from local youth organizations, it reveals that limited and often stereotyped portrayals of female athletes contribute to lower participation and early dropout among girls. The study highlights how underrepresentation, especially of marginalized groups, reinforces harmful narratives that deter engagement. Solutions are proposed, including increasing inclusive media coverage and emphasizing athletic achievements over appearance. By reshaping media narratives, the sports industry can create more supportive environments and encourage greater youth sport participation among girls.
