The Use Of Social Media To Advance Sports Marketing: The Atlantic Hockey Conference, Erin Claybaugh

Theses

Social media has rapidly changed the world of communications, becoming a popular area of interest to many researchers. Sports marketing has also drastically developed and gained recognition within academia. This project evaluated the use of social media by Atlantic Hockey teams through an investigation of their social media strategies and the effectiveness of their channels. With only a small focus on the Atlantic hockey conference and the widespread growth of college hockey nationally over the years, this study was proposed out of personal interest and found necessary. Research was conducted through a series of interviews with social media coordinators of …

Community Engagement At Technological University Dublin: Report On Piloting The Tefce Toolbox., Emma O'Brien, Thomas M. Cooney, Ninoslav Šćukanec Schmidt

Reports

Traditionally, the three central roles identified for higher education are frequently listed as learning and teaching, research and scholarship and engagement with society. Within Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) we have recognised that these roles are interconnected and should not be approached in isolation and should not remain in silos. Rather, these areas should be integrated and embedded across core university activities. In doing so, community engagement becomes a real way of engaging students, faculty and community partners in areas of mutual interest and concern. For the student, it develops understanding, an opportunity for application, and a range of learning …

Ncaa Down For The Count? New State Legislation Threatens Collegiate Sports As We Know It, 19 Uic Rev. Intell. Prop. L. 346 (2020), Joe Nelson

UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law

Since the 1950s, the NCAA’s amateurism shield has served as a stalwart protector in combatting litigation from athletes and coaches within its purview. They have faced many lawsuits since that time, with the overwhelming majority failing. As this comment shows, complaints have been of a wide variety such as antitrust, employment, and state action litigation. The amateurism principle was their defense in each of those situations. But now, many states have recently begun passing legislation that would allow student athletes to obtain compensation, in more ways than one. These statutes are a shot through the heart of the amateurism principle, …

UF Law Faculty Publications

It also approved the NCAA’s no-poaching agreement. This Article analyzes these NCAA-imposed restraints and finds them inconsistent with current antitrust policy.

Rethinking Major League Baseball’S Antitrust Exemption, Roger D. Blair, Wenche Wang Jan 2020

Rethinking Major League Baseball’S Antitrust Exemption, Roger D. Blair, Wenche Wang

UF Law Faculty Publications

For nearly a century, Major League Baseball (MLB) has enjoyed antitrust immunity. No other sports league or organization is similarly exempt. Shielded by precedent from antitrust prosecution, MLB clubs are free to exploit both monopolistic and monopsonistic power. In this paper, we call for a repeal of MLB’s antitrust exemption. In doing so, we examine some recent antitrust challenges to MLB conduct, the current interest of the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission in labor market issues, the welfare consequences of the exemption, and a policy recommendation for legislative action.

Politics At Play: The 1985 World Festival Of Youth And Students And Its Role In Soviet And Cold War History, Michaela Lewalski

Wayne State University Theses

The Twelfth World Festival of Youth and Students that took place in Moscow in 1985 has largely been forgotten, but historical analysis of the event reveals that it had significant implications for the Soviet Union and Cold War. This thesis argues that the festival was a public ceremony that the Soviet Union used to prove its domestic stability and its role as a leader in the fight for world peace to its own people, counterparts in the West, and allies and potential allies in the South and East. The symbols and concrete measures that the Soviet Union used—and the reactions …
