The Method Of Empathy-Based Stories As A Tool For Research And Teaching, Elina Särkelä, Juha Suoranta

The Qualitative Report

In this article we describe a qualitative research method, the “Method of Empathy-Based Stories” (MEBS) and ponder its value in classroom teaching. Our research question is as follows: What is MEBS and what are its possible uses in research and teaching? We gathered empathy-based stories written by students (N = 15) and analysed them with thematic analysis. The dominating themes in writings were the threat of climate change and various coping strategies. MEBS allowed students to describe their ways of thinking and acting, and to take part in the discussion. In general, the use of MEBS can generate hypotheses and …

In the modern day sport marketplace, professional sport teams face tough competition to build and sustain a viable fan base. This study sought to address three research questions: (a) what are the factors that contribute to the socialization of sports fans in niche sport markets? (b) How do team-led and fan-led initiatives work to socialize fans? Adding Insult To Rivalry: Exploring The Discord Communicated Between Rivals, Jennifer L. Harker, Jonathan A. Jensen

Purpose – The purpose of this research is to extend current knowledge regarding rivalry communication among sport consumers to better understand how rivals behave with one another when they communicate.

Design/methodology/approach – This national survey of US sport consumers used a novel approach to explore whether and with whom rivals discuss National Football League (NFL) game outcomes. The survey captured both uniplex and multiplex data by asking respondents to name rival discussants with whom they had recently interacted, and the fan behaviors they exchanged with those named rival discussants.

Photo Elicitation: Useful Supplemental Tool For Qualitative Interviews With Youths, Rebecca Mott, John Tummons, Jon Simonsen, Roxanne Vandermau

Photo elicitation is the idea of inserting a photograph (or other visual material) into a research interview. It has been documented that contemporary modes of expression (such as photographs) can be beneficial in research interviews with youths. This article describes a photo elicitation protocol used with older youths and provides insight on the benefits and challenges of using photo elicitation for qualitative research purposes.

Background: It is of great importance to identify the talented students in the Scientific Olympiad and pay attention to the upgrade of the quality of these competitions.‏

Aims: The purpose of this study was to explain the experiences of students about the Medical Students' Scientific Olympiad.

Methods: This research was a phenomenological qualitative study. Data were collected by open questionnaire (27 students) and semi-structured interview (13 students) who was selected in the Medical Students' Scientific Olympiad. The analyzing of information was performed using the clayze method.

International Journal of Exercise Science 13(2): 62-74, 2020. Yogic breathing techniques (Pranayama) positively impact respiratory function (RF) in non-endurance trained individuals.The purpose of this study investigated effects of routine Pranayama practice on RF, running economy (RE) and perceptual responses. A between subject’s case-control study design was incorporated.Eleven runners practiced three styles of Pranayama (30 min/day 6 days/week) for 3 consecutive weeks (YG) and completed a VO2max tests on a treadmill (trial 1), basic RF tests, and constant workload RE trials at 60, 70, and 80% VO2max (trial 2 and 3). Sociology Major Develops Survey About The Impact Of Photos On Perception, Hayden Doyle

University of Dayton junior Katie Gross was struck by an experience she had at an exhibit that featured stories from Dayton community members, along with their portraits. Influenced by not only their words, but also their images, she wondered if science could prove the impact of photographs on human perception. Working with a faculty mentor, she developed a study to determine whether including a photo with a narrative influences the way people see another person and process their story.
