Sexism In High Level Sports Organizations, Wilma Jalisa Davis Jan 2022

Sexism In High Level Sports Organizations, Wilma Jalisa Davis

Women’s Leadership

Title IX was implemented in 1972 to counter discrimination against women. This included women throughout various levels and systems including athletics. Title IX states that in order to receive federal funding assistance, programs and organizations must ban sex discrimination in order to do so. While Title IX has progressed participation rates of girls and women in sports, it has done little to increase and elevate women in leadership positions. Despite an unprecedented amount of women participating in college sports, women are not provided the same opportunities to chase positions in sports administration or coaching (Lanser, 2017). There have been almost …

Faculty’S Perspective On Student Engagement For Synchronized Online Graduate Level Courses, Ambeeka Jewnandan

Theses and Dissertations

Many colleges and universities are moving towards online learning as it increases access to education and aid in managing the growing enrollment. Students’ engagement in schools has been a growing concern for academic institutes especially in today’s time where online learning is prominent. This study explores instructor’s perspective on the different methods and techniques used in synchronized online courses to increase student engagement at a graduate level. The theoretical lens of Connectivism Theory (Downes, 2006; Siemens, 2004) and Engagement Theory (Kearsley & Schneiderman, 1999) will be explored to understand the relationship found between the methods used in teaching and student …

Internationalization For Whom And For What? Ethical Questions For Sport Management Programs In Global North Universities, Chen Chen Jan 2022

Internationalization For Whom And For What? Ethical Questions For Sport Management Programs In Global North Universities, Chen Chen

Sport Management Collection

This paper maps the ethical complexities underlying the internationalization of sport management programs in Global North universities. Drawing upon postcolonial theory, critical internationalization studies, and studies of global ethics, I review the current articulations that concern the internationalization of sport management programs and highlight the limitations therein - that is, they are primarily articulated from a liberal global imaginary. In introducing the critical and decolonial ethics frameworks, I present some alternative possibilities to envision internationalization practices and policies in sport management programs. Sport management scholars and educators located in Global North institutions are encouraged to confront the ethical challenges of …

Sports And Activities In Cortland, Joseph Martin Jan 2022

Sports And Activities In Cortland, Joseph Martin

COR 101 Slides (2022)

The topic I chose to teach was about the many different opportunities to be involved in SUNY Cortland athletics, and activities around Cortland, NY. There is a broad range of opportunities coming from intramural, to Club, and then Varsity sports. I teach a COR 101 class in the Sport Management major- and I asked them the first day of class how many of them played a sport in high school. As expected, everyone raised their hand, prompting me the idea to lecture them about the variety Cortland offers. Students may find these “Explorations”-as author Strayhorn explains as an idea of …

Updated Perspectives On The Role Of Biomechanics In Copd: Considerations For The Clinician, Jennifer M. Yentes, Wai-Yan Liu, Kuan Zhang, Eric Markvicka, Stephen I. Rennard

Journal Articles: Pulmonary & Critical Care Med

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) demonstrate extra-pulmonary functional decline such as an increased prevalence of falls. Biomechanics offers insight into functional decline by examining mechanics of abnormal movement patterns. This review discusses biomechanics of functional outcomes, muscle mechanics, and breathing mechanics in patients with COPD as well as future directions and clinical perspectives. Patients with COPD demonstrate changes in their postural sway during quiet standing compared to controls, and these deficits are exacerbated when sensory information (eg, eyes closed) is manipulated. If standing balance is disrupted with a perturbation, patients with COPD are slower to return to baseline …
