What Explained Nonprofit Organizations’ Satisfaction With Volunteer Retention During The Covid-19 Pandemic?, Suzanna R. Windon, Daniel Robotham, Ann Echols

Journal of Human Sciences and Extension

The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate nonprofit organizations’ satisfaction with volunteer retention during the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants were 74 nonprofit organizations’ leaders who participated in the online survey. The response rate was 10.6%. We found that the overall mean score for satisfaction with organizational retention of volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic was 3.50 (SD = .98), and the importance of volunteer management practices was 3.52 (SD = .96). Most nonprofit organizations were proactive (38.8%) and reacted promptly (52.2%) while addressing the organizations’ response to the pandemic. Title Ix: An Analysis Of Its Effects On Collegiate Athletics, Hanna Laube Apr 2022

Title Ix: An Analysis Of Its Effects On Collegiate Athletics, Hanna Laube

Honors Projects

Title IX has had a monumental impact on the development of women’s opportunities in sports. I conducted three interviews with women athletes who competed in college from 1967-71, 1995-99, and 2009-2014. I also analyzed some primary research on how female athletes remember Title IX and some secondary research on remembering Title IX. In the interviews I found that all the athletes were very appreciative of Title IX, but did not know much about it and therefore could not think very critically about it. In contrast, scholars were very critical of Title IX and pointed out the shortcomings in the law. …

When The Magic Closes: Examining How Disney Fans Coped With Theme Park And Resort Closures Amid The Covid-19 Pandemic, Cody Havard, Carissa A. Baker, Daniel L. Wann, Rick Grieve

Journal of Themed Experience and Attractions Studies

This essay discusses a qualitative investigation we conducted with fans of the Disney parks and resorts during the summer of 2020 regarding the company’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, 22 people responded to open-ended questions from an online survey to discuss their views of the closures and planned reopenings of the Disney parks and resorts amid the early days of the pandemic. Using social identity theory (Tajfel, 1978) and the theory of planned behavior (Ajzen, 1991), we discuss how fans react to and cope with the temporary loss of a favorite activity and how companies in the themed entertainment …

Footballer Valuations: Valuing World-Class Football Players Against Transfer Fees, Louis Diblasi Apr 2022

Footballer Valuations: Valuing World-Class Football Players Against Transfer Fees, Louis Diblasi

Honors Projects in Economics

This paper aims to create a model to value European football players. It will do so by comparing a player's transfer fee and then measuring their value based on performances in the season after the transfer has occurred. The model will be applied to Europe's top five leagues: the English Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, and the German Bundesliga. This study takes variables from multiple past studies to be used in the model, and adds a valuation for goalkeepers, which has never been done before. The goal of this study is to measure the variables that contribute …

College Students' Energy Drink Consumption And Sponsor Recall, Daniel Sewell, Kyu-Soo Chung Apr 2022

College Students' Energy Drink Consumption And Sponsor Recall, Daniel Sewell, Kyu-Soo Chung

Symposium of Student Scholars

Energy drink companies like Red Bull, Monster, Bang, Reign and Celsius annually invest millions of dollars to sponsor a variety of athletes and events across numerous sports. These vast investments raise the question: Which partnerships, sponsorships or activities ultimately make an impact on society and attract new consumers? It is imperative to dissect the factors that impact consumer decisions to purchase specific products in order to more efficiently allocate resources. This research has the potential to aid companies in unearthing decision making patterns of college students regarding energy drink purchases and how these beverages are utilized. The purpose of this …

Currently, there is limited research investigating the effects of quercetin on bone turnover and density. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the efficacy of 90-day quercetin supplementation on bone turnover, inflammation, body composition, and physical function in postmenopausal women. Thirty-four healthy postmenopausal women (59.2 ± 7.0 yrs, 80.7 ± 15.6 kg, 29.8 ± 6.1 kg⸱m2) participated in the double-blind placebo-controlled investigation. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups: 500 mg of Q or 500 mg of fiber (placebo; PLB). Data collected during the pre-and post-supplementation assessments included: bone turnover (osteocalcin, P1NP, CTX), inflammation markers (IL-6, TNF-alpha, …

Symposium of Student Scholars

PURPOSE: The ActiGraph GT3X, ActiGraph GT9X, and ActivPAL 4 are accelerometry devices used to measure human physical activity for both research and clinical data. The accelerometer selection is important to yield the most accurate data. This study tests the association and agreement between estimated step counts measured by these accelerometry devices. METHODS: Two males and five females participated (Age: 19.6±3.0 years, BMI: 23.2±6.0 kg/m2). Three accelerometers were worn simultaneously for at least 19 hours. Two ActiGraphs (GT3X and GT9X) were worn on the waist and one ActivPAL monitor was affixed to the right thigh. Step count data from …

The Academic Work-Life Balance Of Entry-Level Athletic Training Students And Its Implications, Grant Pheil Apr 2022

The Academic Work-Life Balance Of Entry-Level Athletic Training Students And Its Implications, Grant Pheil

School of Health and Human Performance Theses

Athletic training students (ATS) have been documented to experience stressors and perceive burnout up to this point in their assimilation into the profession. This is understood through recent work-life balance (WLB) and burnout research within the student population, stemming off research recommendations surrounding the professional setting. However, following current educational shifts and worldwide events, prior research is limited surrounding specific graduate level ATS WLB, stressors, coping responses, and comparisons across ATS demographics. The purpose of this study is to identify this balance in graduate level students and highlight stressors or management techniques that will benefit future students pursuing athletic training …

The lack of women in leadership positions within the domain of athletic administration is a phenomenon that is widely understood (Galloway, 2012). To address the dearth of research in this area, the current study explored the experiences of African American women athletic administrators at Division I HBCUs. The research questions that guided this study were: 1) What are the experiences of African-American women athletic administrators at Division I HBCUs?; 2) What are the factors that impact the experiences of Division I HBCU African- American women athletic administrators? This study was informed by intersectionality and utilized a qualitative narrative approach to …

Testing Efficiency In Nhl Betting Markets, Charles Luxton, Joshua Spizman, David Moore Apr 2022

Testing Efficiency In Nhl Betting Markets, Charles Luxton, Joshua Spizman, David Moore

Honors Thesis

The efficiency of markets is a prominent topic in the field of finance. Market efficiency has been thoroughly examined across many subsectors of finance; however thus far, existing research has sparsely covered the increasingly prominent sports betting market. This market is currently valued at roughly $10B per year (Grandview). In this article, we evaluate the efficiency of sports betting markets, using NHL betting lines and results from 2015-2020 to create a multivariate probit model which tests the market’s efficiency. Using a multivariate probit model to identify NHL money line bets with a relatively high probability of success compared to their …
