Positional Winning: The Allocation Of Payroll And Its Effects On Win Percentage In Major League Baseball, Anthony Griffith
Positional Winning: The Allocation Of Payroll And Its Effects On Win Percentage In Major League Baseball, Anthony Griffith
Theses & ETDs
The continued success of an organization in Major League Baseball (MLB) can be attributed to many factors, but they can get there by maximizing the money that is allocated to their payroll. We want to explore the effects that payroll can have on the winning percentage of a team based on how much they spend on certain position groups. We examine the correlations between the amount spent on position groups and winning percentage using simple scatter plots and trend lines. Thereafter, we will then predict the most effective ways to devote the payroll among positions using linear regression, multiple linear …
Risk Appraisal: An Investigation Of Personality Traits And Prior Injury On Thrill And Adventure Seeking Behavior In A High-Risk Modern Circus Performance Art Task, Rachael German
Wayne State University Dissertations
Introduction. Individuals make decisions every day that involve some assessment of risk.. Relevant psychological factors that require a deeper investigation include sensation seeking (SS), personality traits, anxiety, and self-efficacy (SE). The theoretical framework for the study is the biopsychosocial model of challenge and threat (BPSCT). Much of risk appraisal research has been done in a lab or on a computer, while this study presented a relevant, novel, and innovative physical task that incorporated risk in an ecologically valid setting. Purpose. The purpose of this research study was to examine participants' willingness to participate in a high-risk modern circus performance art …

Lavery Library Faculty/Staff Publications
Lavery Library is the sole library for St. John Fisher University and its five schools. The university is located in a small suburb in western New York State. Over the past decade we experienced many transformational changes. Some of these changes include our parent institution’s designation moving from college to university and the expansion of hybrid and online programs. The program expansions, combined with exploring textbook borrowing and changes to library services post-Covid, propelled the library staff to reimagine Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services for distance patrons. From our first online program policies in 2012 to the present day, this chapter …

High Impact Practices Student Showcase Fall 2025
As part of my service-learning experience, I partnered with Legacy Pointe at UCF, a senior living community dedicated to lifelong enrichment. Alongside my team, I helped design and implement resident-centered programs that focused on healthcare transitions, wellness, and emotional support. We hosted Healthcare Talks to educate residents on moving between independent living, assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing. We also organized Flu Shot Clinics in collaboration with CFP Comprehensive Primary Care to promote preventative care, and facilitated mental wellness activities like memory games and a resident-led outdoor golf tournament.
Working with Legacy Pointe staff, Dr. Burrows’ practice, and faculty …

Investigating Esports Training And Performance: An Evaluation Of Research And Practice, Kalem Griffin
Investigating Esports Training And Performance: An Evaluation Of Research And Practice, Kalem Griffin
Undergraduate Honors Theses
This paper investigates performance and training in eSports. The guiding research question is: What does an investigation of the academic literature on esports performance and training reveal? Performance and training are significant areas of interest in esports, as they encompass a range of insights, challenges, and opportunities. While performance and training have been well researched and documented across the broader sport industry, insight and understanding into esports performance and training remain limited, despite their considerable impact and significance.
Much remains to be explored, discussed, and achieved regarding eSports performance and training. In this area, much is at stake in the …

The Score Act Is Unconstitutional: Private Nondelegation Problems With Congress’S Latest Attempt To Regulate College Sports, Sam C. Ehrlich, Ryan M. Rodenberg
Cardozo Law Review de•novo
The Student Compensation and Opportunity through Rights and Endorsements Act (“SCORE Act”) is Congress’s most ambitious effort yet to bring stability to college sports, codifying the recent House settlement while granting sweeping regulatory power to private athletic associations such as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”) and the College Sports Commission (“CSC”). However, by delegating policymaking authority to these private, self-interested entities without any sort of public oversight, the bill raises serious constitutional concerns under the private nondelegation doctrine. Drawing on parallels to a string of litigation involving the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (“HISA”) and recent Supreme Court signals, …

The Cost Of A Playing Surface: Artificial Turf Versus Natural Grass, Tyler Whitaker
The Cost Of A Playing Surface: Artificial Turf Versus Natural Grass, Tyler Whitaker
Emerging Writers
The debate between whether artificial grass or natural grass is better has recently gained popularity among sports advocates and athletes. The immediate explanation for this surge of popularity can be indicated by the increased concerns regarding environmental conservation, health concerns, and growing costs. Previous research has shown that the choice between the two surfaces often depends on specific needs and preferences, each having their own unique advantages and disadvantages. Natural grass is often portrayed as being the safest option when it comes to playing because of its longevity in use and other factors. This has contributed to the overall discussion …

Business: Faculty Publications
This paper shares the results of student efforts in a Fall 2024 undergraduate Capstone course at Molloy University’s School of Business. During the 14-week semester, eight students worked in two teams to address an opportunity for Backyard Players & Friends (BYP), a nonprofit organization based in Rockville Centre (Long Island), New York dedicated to inclusivity for people 14+ years old. To help fulfill its mission, BYP ventured into retail by opening a boutique named Front Porch Market (FPM) in December 2022. FPM was the focus of a Capstone in Spring 2024, and those efforts led to this follow-up engagement. The …

Exploring Law Enforcement Officers' Experiences With Athletic Trainers And Work-Related Injury, Stephanie H. Clines, Rubie Gaudette, Amanda Wheeler, Jennifer Ostrowsk
Athletic Training Faculty Publications
Law enforcement is an emerging clinical setting for athletic trainers (ATs), yet little is known regarding law enforcement officers (LEOs) perceptions of the profession. This qualitative study following a general inductive approach explored LEOs' experiences with musculoskeletal injury and their interactions with ATs. Seven officers (N = 7) participated in one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Three themes emerged: (1) roles and responsibilities of ATs, (2) education and training, and (3) impact of injury on LEOs. While participants viewed ATs positively, they demonstrated limited understanding of the profession's scope and expertise. Participants commonly described managing musculoskeletal injuries on their own due to …
The Legend Of Taylor Heinicke: An Autoethnography Of Unexpected, Passionate Fandom, Brendan O'Hallarn
The Legend Of Taylor Heinicke: An Autoethnography Of Unexpected, Passionate Fandom, Brendan O'Hallarn
Communication & Theatre Arts Faculty Publications
Passionate fandom is not a novel phenomenon in the field of sport. The fervor of fans builds stadiums and has allowed the sport industry to grow exponentially in the past few decades. Scholars have examined the passionate fan through many theoretical lenses, but comparatively little scholarship has looked at sport fandom fervor from inside. An autoethnographic examination of my unexpected journey as a fan of journeyman National Football League (NFL) quarterback Taylor Heinicke demonstrates how fandom can stir passions and create rituals in sport followers. A multimedia diary of Heinicke's unexpected ascension to starting quarterback of the Washington Commanders provides …
