Vincent De Paul's Discernment Of His Own Vocation And That Of The Congregation Of The Mission, Douglas Slawson C.M. Apr 1989

Vincent De Paul's Discernment Of His Own Vocation And That Of The Congregation Of The Mission, Douglas Slawson C.M.

Vincentian Studies

Vincent de Paul discovered his vocation and that of the Congregation in several ways. These were fulfilling the Church’s needs, seeking evidence of God’s will in events, and obeying God’s will, either as mandated by superiors or by following inspiration that responded to events. Such inspiration was always carefully examined before being put into practice. These elements are traced through Vincent’s life and career. Through work with Pierre de Berulle, he saw the need for properly formed priests, especially for country parishes. His ministry on the Gondi estates, especially the mission at Folleville, further convinced him of the poor’s need …

Liturgy And Culture: Overcoming The Tensions, Mary Kay Oosdyke O.P. Jan 1989

Liturgy And Culture: Overcoming The Tensions, Mary Kay Oosdyke O.P.

Institute of Liturgical Studies Occasional Papers

(Excerpt)

Recently a Danish film was shown in theaters around the country called "Babette's Feast." The setting of the film is a small village in a remote section of Denmark where the people belong to a strict religious sect. Their life, their food, and their religious practice reflect the austerity of the surrounding land. The leader and founder of the sect is a widower with two daughters, both of whom are attractive and gifted. The story is about their lives and the life of the little community.

Religious Women In The World In Italy And France During The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries, Massimo Marocchi Oct 1988

Religious Women In The World In Italy And France During The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries, Massimo Marocchi

Vincentian Studies

Communities of religious women living and working outside the cloister had been founded before the Daughters of Charity, but they often came under the control of the diocesan bishops and were cloistered later. The article focuses on two Italian groups, the Company of Saint Ursula and the Angelic Sisters of Saint Paul, as well as other companies of women in France and Italy, including the Visitation Nuns of Francis de Sales. The Ursulines, unmarried virgins, lived with their families, gathering periodically to hear sermons and assisting at mass. The Ursulines spread to France, where they were usually cloistered; they educated …
