Investigating The Correlation Between Nurses' Spiritual Well-Being And Spiritual Care Perspectives, Marion Lieber Reyes
Master's Projects
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between nurses' spiritual well-being (using the JAREL Spiritual-Well Being Scale) and their perspectives of spiritual care (using the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale). A total of 130 registered nurses (23%) participated in the study. The data was analyzed using SPSS in which a Pearson's r correlation was performed on the JAREL and SSCRS scores. The results were statistically significant for a positive correlation between nurses' spiritual well-being and …

The Chaplaincy Of The Alabama Army National Guard, Jimmy Black
The Chaplaincy Of The Alabama Army National Guard, Jimmy Black
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A review of current literature demonstrates that very little information is known of the Alabama Army National Guard Chaplain Program. Sources provide the historical background of U.S. military chaplains. A survey of current chaplains in Alabama provides this project with statistical information illuminating the current status, and the project then reviews the job of chaplain in the Alabama Army National Guard. Recommendations address the treatment of chaplains, recruitment of new chaplains, and the education of chaplains.
Anticipatory Mourning In Caregivers With Children Who Die In The Hospital, Annie Rini
Anticipatory Mourning In Caregivers With Children Who Die In The Hospital, Annie Rini
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The death of a child has tremendous impact on a caregiver. Even when prognosis is poor and death appears imminent, care of the dying child typically focuses on achieving cure. Consequently, caregivers are often ill prepared to cope with the grief they experience as their child is dying. Anticipatory mourning allows caregivers time to begin grief work prior to the death of a loved one. Literature suggests that those who experience anticipatory mourning have a less complicated bereavement period. The purpose of this qualitative study is to (a) describe the presence (or absence) and role of anticipatory mourning in caregivers …

A Hermeneutics Study: The Spirituality Of Adults With A Terminal Illness In A Hospice Program, Ginny K. Backman
A Hermeneutics Study: The Spirituality Of Adults With A Terminal Illness In A Hospice Program, Ginny K. Backman
Theses and Graduate Projects
Despite the increasing literature on the significance of spirituality to individuals with a terminal illness, specific research focused on the spirituality of individuals in hospice is limited to several quantitative studies, only one with a qualitative component. This qualitative study expands understanding or experience through hermeneutic analysis of in-depth interviews with three individuals with a terminal illness. The individual's narratives revealed "believing" as the way they found meaning in the present moment. "Always believing" and "adamantly believing" in a Supreme Being gave their daily lives meaning and direction. They were steadfast in leaving all to God for this life and …

A Spiritual Model For Recovery Of Pastors Suffering Burnout (The Pine Springs Retreat), Charles Martin Liu
Doctor of Ministry Projects

Many claim burnout is hurting their job performance. It is the purpose of this study to measure the perceived levels of burnout among a cross section of SDA pastors in Southeastern California Conference of SDA (SECCSDA), plan and initiate an intervention to treat the symptoms of burnout, and analyze the effectiveness of the intervention.
Method
An original perception-test instrument was used to measure the perceived feelings of burnout among approximately eighty …
