Strategies Human Resource Leaders Use To Increase Employee Retention In The Automotive Industry, Kendra Williams Sep 2025

Strategies Human Resource Leaders Use To Increase Employee Retention In The Automotive Industry, Kendra Williams

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Excess turnover of personnel threatens organizational viability and long-term success. Human resource leaders need to develop strategies to increase employee retention. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theories, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore and identify successful employee retention strategies employed by human resource leaders to mitigate employee turnover. Data were collected from human resources managers using semistructured interviews and public data from companies’ websites. Through thematic analysis, four themes emerged: (a) job assignment, (b) employee feedback, (c) employee benefits, and (d) training, growth, and development. A key recommendation is for human resource …

Comparing Regulation With Collective Bargaining: Drawing On Processes Of Change During The Covid-19 Crisis In Israel, Lilach Lurie, Guy Mundlak Sep 2025

Comparing Regulation With Collective Bargaining: Drawing On Processes Of Change During The Covid-19 Crisis In Israel, Lilach Lurie, Guy Mundlak

Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal

This article compares two systems of labour market governance: regulation by means of employment standards, and norms that are established in collective bargaining. A comparative framework draws nine criteria, spanning procedural and substantive dimensions, and emphasises the degree of integration between the systems, or “coupling.” The study uses Israel’s response to the COVID-19 crisis as a case study, drawing on a unique dataset of all regulatory provisions and collective agreements concluded from March 2020 to December 2021, supplemented by interviews with key actors. In the public sector, strong coupling was achieved through coordinated regulatory and bargaining processes, resulting in more …

Two Essays On Health And Health Behavior In China, Jiamin Tan Sep 2025

Two Essays On Health And Health Behavior In China, Jiamin Tan

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

This thesis consists of two empirical studies on elderly mental health and on health behaviors. The first study investigates the long-term impact of childhood hunger on mental health in later life, using data from two nationally representative surveys in China. The study finds that childhood hunger exposure significantly increases the risks of depression and anxiety in later life. These effects are most pronounced among individuals exposed after age 5, suggesting that autobiographical memory formation plays an important role beyond socioeconomic and health pathways. The findings further indicate these impacts can be mitigated through economic interventions, such as welfare programs, and …

Ceuta, Melilla, And The Co-Construction Of Borders And Migrant Identities: Moroccan And Spanish Media Discourse, Farah Ali Sep 2025

Ceuta, Melilla, And The Co-Construction Of Borders And Migrant Identities: Moroccan And Spanish Media Discourse, Farah Ali

Global Language Studies Faculty publications

Ceuta and Melilla are often the epicenter of political debates in Spain and Morocco, in part owing to their Spanish sovereignty being disputed by Morocco. This issue is further complicated by Morocco’s paradoxical role in migration to these cities, serving as a sojourn for migrants while simultaneously policing the borders that it protests. In this study, I use critical discourse analysis and media framing to analyze 200 Moroccan and Spanish news articles to highlight how migrant identities and borders are co-constructed. Findings show that borders are discursively constructed differently across countries and publication languages while also tied to migration, juxtaposing …

Government Expenditure On Education And Its Impact On Access To Higher Education In The U.S. And Germany, Miguel Barrero Garcia, Minh Anh Nguyen Sep 2025

Government Expenditure On Education And Its Impact On Access To Higher Education In The U.S. And Germany, Miguel Barrero Garcia, Minh Anh Nguyen

OneUSF Undergraduate Research Conference

On the surface level there seems to be a discrepancy between access to higher education in the U.S. and Germany, so we would like to explore its connection with government expenditure on education. How does government spending on education in Germany and the U.S. differ and how does it shape access to higher education? The research is being conducted by going over different studies on how each country’s government treats education and spends on it. Research will also be done on access to higher education in both countries and what other factors, aside from government expenditure on education, could affect …

Impact Of Elite Patriot Women, Anthony Luna Sep 2025

Impact Of Elite Patriot Women, Anthony Luna

History in the Making

This research paper explores the overlooked yet pivotal contributions of elite patriot women had on the American Revolution. It argues that their participation in the revolution was instrumental in shaping its outcome through grassroots organizing, frontline support, and propaganda creation. While men like George Washington and Alexander Hamilton dominated popular narratives, women from influential families played critical roles by organizing boycotts, producing goods, delivering intelligence, and rallying financial and moral support for the Continental Army. This study investigates how elite women such as Mercy Otis Warren, Sarah Fulton, Esther DeBerdt Reed, and Martha Washington didn’t just support the revolution from …

Practitioners’ Perspectives On Preventing Environmental Gentrification In Chicago, Illinois, Usa, Tania Schusler, Amy Krings

School of Environmental Sustainability: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Pollution cleanup, green space creation, and other improvements to environmental quality in cities are important to urban sustainability. However, because they occur within a political economic context characterized by structural racism, urban greening initiatives can intentionally or unintentionally reproduce racial, economic, and social inequities through environmental gentrification. We explored possibilities for improving environmental quality without displacing or excluding long-term residents including people of color, the poor, and members of other marginalized groups. We conducted in-depth, semi-structured interviews with community organizers, environmental justice advocates, urban planners, housing specialists, and others who held deep expertise through their lived and professional experience in …

Education And Fertility: Evidence From An Instrumental Variable Approach Using Higher Education Expansions In Turkey, Badi H. Baltagi, Haci M. Karatas Sep 2025

Education And Fertility: Evidence From An Instrumental Variable Approach Using Higher Education Expansions In Turkey, Badi H. Baltagi, Haci M. Karatas

Center for Policy Research

This paper examines the impact of higher education on women’s fertility behavior in Turkey. To address the endogeneity of education we use the plausibly exogenous variation in college availability in Turkey between 1983 and 2000. We find that increased education of women in Turkey significantly reduced the number of children and increased the probability of childlessness at the end of the fecund period. The effect of education on fertility worked through a postponement in first births at ages following college graduation until the age of 35, an improvement in women’s labor market outcomes, better marriage market outcomes, and use of …

A Growing Threat Of Multi-Hazard Cascades Highlighted By The Birch Glacier Collapse And Blatten Landslide In The Swiss Alps, Nazimul Islam, Jonathan L. Carrivick, Tom Coulthard, Matthew Westoby, Stuart Dunning, Saskia Gindraux Sep 2025

A Growing Threat Of Multi-Hazard Cascades Highlighted By The Birch Glacier Collapse And Blatten Landslide In The Swiss Alps, Nazimul Islam, Jonathan L. Carrivick, Tom Coulthard, Matthew Westoby, Stuart Dunning, Saskia Gindraux

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Rapid atmospheric warming, especially at high altitude, leads to alpine mountain landscapes becoming more vulnerable to mass movements and consequently unstable. For example, decay of mountain permafrost contributes to rockfalls, landslides and debris flows; glaciers are retreating and losing mass at alarming rates, exposing unstable slopes that are more likely to fail; and meltwater, which collects in a growing number of glacial lakes, can pose an outburst flood hazard, putting communities and infrastructure downstream at risk of damage. Occurring now with increasing frequency, these natural phenomena often combine to create complex multi-hazard cascades that are more powerful and have a …

Do Tax Judges Favor The Tax Authority?, Orli Oren-Kolbinger Sep 2025

Do Tax Judges Favor The Tax Authority?, Orli Oren-Kolbinger

Florida Tax Review

Judges and judicial systems have become more specialized in response to increasing legal complexity. While the theoretical literature has discussed judicial specialization extensively, deliberating its pros and cons and its implications—arguably an appealing background for empirical investigation—few empirical studies have attempted to quantify the relationship between judicial specialization and case outcomes. This Article fills that lacuna. It analyzes a hand-coded dataset of tax cases in which rulings were made by both specialized tax judges and generalist judges in Israeli District Courts. Its main finding is that specialized tax judges are more inclined than generalist judges toward the Tax Authority. It …

Representations Of The Other In The Novel Jurma Al Turjuman By Mohammed Hassan Alwan; A Semiotic Cultural Reading, Nasser Fuhaid Suliman Almejmaj

UB Journal for Humanities

Despite the theme of “Self and the Other” being one of the most extensively explored in theoretical and applied studies within the fields of philosophy, literature, sociology, ethnology, and anthropology, it arguably remains among the themes most in need of further research. This necessity arises from its intrinsic connection to the essence of human existence and the self’s endeavor to realize itself—sometimes in confrontation with the self, and more often in confrontation with the Other in its diverse and multifaceted manifestations. This need becomes particularly pronounced in eras marked by intensified conflict between the Arab-Islamic self and the Western-Christian Other, …

Entrepreneurial Identity And Small Business Performance In An Emerging Nation: The Role Of Effectuation In South Africa, Justice Muchineripi, Willie Chinyamurindi

Arab Economic and Business Journal

This study explores the link between entrepreneurial identity and subjective business performance in South African small businesses, focusing on the mediating role of effectuation. Using data from 380 small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the Eastern Cape, the study responds to calls for research that integrates individual and contextual factors in entrepreneurship. Findings which emerged in the study showed that social identity was not significantly linked to subjective performance, spiritual and business identity positively predict positive subjective performance. There was no evidence of effectuation mediation on entrepreneur identity and subjective performance. The research underscores the importance of understanding identity’s …

A Content Analysis Of Prison/Custodial Suicide In Bangladesh, Anisur Khan, Rasel Hussain Sep 2025

A Content Analysis Of Prison/Custodial Suicide In Bangladesh, Anisur Khan, Rasel Hussain

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Suicide is the leading cause of death in prisons and custodial settings globally. International studies have consistently shown that prisoners and detainees are at a higher risk of suicide compared to the general population. Despite Bangladesh having a large prison population, there is no scholarly work on suicide within these settings. Against this backdrop, this study explored online newspaper content analysis capturing the characteristics of prison and custodial suicide in Bangladesh from 2014–2024. A total of 20 suicide cases were identified during this period. The data were arranged based on year-wise trends, age, sex, type of custody, nature of criminality, …

Preserving Cultural Identity In Multi-Function Real Estate Developments, Khloud Khalid Eldamshiry Sep 2025

Preserving Cultural Identity In Multi-Function Real Estate Developments, Khloud Khalid Eldamshiry

Architectural Engineering

The proliferation of multi-function real-estate developments (MRD) frequently leads to the erosion of unique architectural identity (AI), threatening the historical and cultural character of urban areas. This research addresses a critical gap in understanding how new developments can effectively preserve and leverage local cultural heritage. Grounded in the theoretical understanding of heritage-led urban regeneration, this study aims First, to identify the specific architectural elements and design strategies crucial for preserving cultural sustainability (CS) in multi-function real estate projects; and second, to quantify the perceived impact of these strategies on local community engagement and economic viability. The hypothesis posits that multi-function …

Illegal Corporate Cultures, Elise Bernlohr Maizel Sep 2025

Illegal Corporate Cultures, Elise Bernlohr Maizel

Duke Law Journal

Culture is a powerful force in corporate compliance. Corporate culture shapes how employees behave, dictating whether, when, and how they follow the law. Cases arising out of cultural failures often involve public harm—plane crashes, poisoned rivers, tainted cancer drugs, and collapsed mines. Before these awful outcomes, however, the corporations that caused these harms fostered cultures that permitted the disregard of legal commands and public commitments. Managers disparaged safety regulations. Messages about profits and production drowned out messages about compliance and safety. Yet, there is a gap between all we know about the power of culture and our understanding of corporate …

The “Geography Of Opportunity” In Flyover Country: A College Match Case Study, Sabrina C. Gregersen, Joanna Full, Meghan Ecker-Lyster Sep 2025

The “Geography Of Opportunity” In Flyover Country: A College Match Case Study, Sabrina C. Gregersen, Joanna Full, Meghan Ecker-Lyster

Mid-Western Educational Researcher

In previous studies of college match, specifically undermatching and its far-reaching consequences among traditionally underserved students, students’ geographic proximity to postsecondary institutions (particularly those with which they match) has not always received much consideration. As it stands, the scholarly consensus on college match is not representative of students who live far from regions that are rich with college options of all levels. We evaluated the college match outcomes of 334 high school graduates from a public school district in the Midwest that has a relatively low concentration of colleges nearby. We categorized college match using student competitiveness based on GPA …

No. 45: Internal Migration, Climate Adaptation, And Food System Resilience In Namibia, Lawrence N. Kazembe, Ndeyapo Nickanor

Migration and Food Security (MiFOOD) Network

As one of sub-Saharan Africa’s most arid countries, Namibia serves as a crucial example for studying the interactions between climate vulnerability, migration, and food systems. This study investigates how internal migration flows to Windhoek and northern towns (Oshakati, Ongwediva, Ondangwa) transform urban food networks while creating new patterns of risk and adaptation. Through household surveys, policy analysis, and stakeholder interviews, we uncover a paradox: despite escaping rural climate stressors, migrants often encounter new vulnerabilities such as precarious employment, inadequate housing, and unstable food access. However, they develop sophisticated adaptive strategies that span urban-rural divides: maintaining rural agricultural production through family …
