Male participation in contraceptive use in Indonesia remains very low, while women continue to bear a disproportionate reproductive burden, including mental health impacts from contraceptive side effects. This study aims to examine the effect of husbands’ contraceptive use on wives’ mental health. The analysis utilizes data from the fifth wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey conducted in 2014. Wives’ mental health is measured using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale - 10. From The “Paris Of The East” To Modern Phnom Penh: Colonial Legacies In Cambodian Urban Planning, Jin Ke, Ade Solihat Jan 2026

From The “Paris Of The East” To Modern Phnom Penh: Colonial Legacies In Cambodian Urban Planning, Jin Ke, Ade Solihat

International Review of Humanities Studies

Phnom Penh was once known as the “Paris of the East,” serving as a major urban center in Indochina during the French colonial period. Colonial authorities shaped the city through functional zoning, planned street networks, and European-style architecture, all of which reflected hierarchies of power embedded in urban space. Despite the extensive destruction caused by the Khmer Rouge regime and subsequent postwar reconstruction, traces of colonial urban planning and architectural heritage remain clearly visible in the contemporary development of Phnom Penh. This study adopts a literature-based approach combined with historical analysis, spatial analysis, and architectural case studies to examine how …

Interaction Of Deaf Students With Hearing Peers In Inclusive Elementary Schools: A Phenomenological Study, Anfal Zaeni Noor, Sriyanto Sriyanto

Journal of ICSAR

The interaction of disabilities with their peers in inclusive elementary schools is a critical dimension of social and emotional development, yet existing research has largely emphasized communication barriers or institutional readiness rather than students’ lived communicative experiences. This study examines how a deaf student constructs and negotiates communication with peers in an inclusive elementary school context. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, the study involved one deaf student, hearing peers, parents, and a homeroom teacher. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that communication was predominantly mediated through spontaneous, …

Cross-Cultural Perspectives On The Development Of Critical Thinking In Deaf Students: A Comparative Study Between Indonesia And Finland, Fariyeni Fariyeni, Nurhastuti Nurhastuti

Journal of ICSAR

This study examines how cultural context shapes the development of critical thinking skills in deaf students through a comparative cross-cultural analysis of Indonesia and Finland. Although critical thinking is recognized as a core 21st-century competency, it remains underexplored in deaf education, particularly from a cross-cultural perspective. The research employed a qualitative, descriptive, and comparative design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analysed using comparative thematic analysis. Trustworthiness was ensured through source and method triangulation, peer debriefing with inclusive education experts, and member checking with participants. Participants included secondary-level deaf students, special education (SLB) teachers, and inclusive teachers …

Solitary Interiority In Hong Kong Public Spaces, Xia Bi, Kin Wai Michael Siu, Rosina Yuan Jan 2026

Solitary Interiority In Hong Kong Public Spaces, Xia Bi, Kin Wai Michael Siu, Rosina Yuan

Interiority

Hong Kong's dense urban environment, constrained housing, and relentless tempo of everyday life create a context in which solitude is both scarce and valued. This article develops the concept of solitary interiority to capture how moments of solitude in public space generate interiority as a relational condition through the interplay of bodies, atmospheres, and cultural norms. Drawing on ethnographic interviews and multisensory experiential reflection, the article demonstrates how solitary interiority arises from the blurring of boundaries between the domestic and the urban, the self and others, and the private and the public. Individuals extend certain home-like qualities into public spaces, …

Critical Design And The Robotic Imaginary: Design Criticism And Critical Robots, Jörgen Behrendtz Jan 2026

Critical Design And The Robotic Imaginary: Design Criticism And Critical Robots, Jörgen Behrendtz

The Journal of Sociotechnical Critique

This paper brings critical design and design criticism to critical robot studies. Critical design can be described as an umbrella term for approaches making use of speculative designs to highlight and challenge narrow assumptions, preconceptions or even taken-for-granted truths about the role products play (in a wide sense) in everyday life. Design criticism refers to a reasoned procedure that investigates emancipatory and/or limiting potentials of designs, theorizes the roles of affordances, materials and embodied perception as epistemological resources in media interaction, and clarifies connections between specific design choices and their associated experiential qualities, seductive powers, ideological underpinnings, material operations, and …

Strengthening The Use Of Sexual And Reproductive Health And Rights Evidence In Refugee And Humanitarian Settings, Baobab Research Programme Consortium Jan 2026

Strengthening The Use Of Sexual And Reproductive Health And Rights Evidence In Refugee And Humanitarian Settings, Baobab Research Programme Consortium

Humanitarian Task Force

This guide offers practical, experience-based direction for strengthening the uptake of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) evidence in refugee and humanitarian settings. Drawing on five years of Baobab’s work in Uganda and Ethiopia, it outlines principles for effective research uptake, including embedded partnerships, rigorous locally owned methods, stakeholder engagement, capacity development, adaptive communication, and continuous learning. The guide illustrates how these approaches enabled pioneering evidence generation—such as the first Humanitarian Violence Against Children Survey (VACS)—and informed service innovations, national policy reforms, and cross-country learning. It provides a replicable framework for translating SRHR research into action and system level …

Unpacking A Health Paradox Among Preterm Infants: Insights From A Providers' Perception, Brittany Nicole Stewart Jan 2026

Unpacking A Health Paradox Among Preterm Infants: Insights From A Providers' Perception, Brittany Nicole Stewart

ETDs from 2020-2029

The goal of this dissertation is to examine the varying perspectives, or frames, of providers regarding decision-making in the NICU, which includes how they view neonates and their families, their roles as providers, and the way their frames possibly impact the care they give to the infants. In this dissertation, I conduct in-depth interviews with 34 NICU providers and professionals that provide their services in the NICU, including doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, various therapists (i.e. respiratory, physical, occupational), and two other providers from two other professions. Within the NICU, a common stereotype exists that is a belief that White boy …

Structural Empowerment And The Work Environment Of Nursing Home Care Workers In China, Yawen Ou Jan 2026

Structural Empowerment And The Work Environment Of Nursing Home Care Workers In China, Yawen Ou

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

China is experiencing a profound demographic transformation as its population ages rapidly, driven by declining fertility, increased longevity, and long-term effects of the One- Child policy. Traditional family-based elderly care has become increasingly unsustainable due to the pressures of the “4-2-1” family structure and the rising prevalence of empty-nest households. In this context, there is an increasing trend in institutionalized elderly care, accompanied by a growing demand for Nursing Home Care Workers (NHCWs). In spite of their vital importance, NHCWs often face heavy workloads, poor compensation, low recognition, and limited professional autonomy. This study explores the work environment and structural …

A Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, And Threats (Swot) Analysis Of Chatgpt In Academic Help-Seeking, Fan Yang

International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This study explores the use of ChatGPT as a help-seeking tool in educational contexts, examining both its potential benefits and costs through a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis. The purpose is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the various internal and external factors that either promote or hinder the use of ChatGPT for academic help-seeking. The strengths of ChatGPT, such as its 24/7 availability to provide immediate responses, non-judgmental tone, and the ability to provide personalized help based on specific prompts, position itself as a valuable resource for help-seekers. However, the low quality of the responses generated by …
