The Stories Of African American Mothers Working Part-Time Without Mandated Job Protections, Chantelle Sharese Yancy Feb 2026

The Stories Of African American Mothers Working Part-Time Without Mandated Job Protections, Chantelle Sharese Yancy

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides unpaid, job‑protected leave only for eligible workers, and rules tied to hours, tenure, and employer size often exclude mothers working part-time. Research on U.S. family and medical leave has documented inequities in access to job protections. The lived experiences of African American/Black mothers navigating this gap remain underrepresented. The purpose of this narrative qualitative study was to explore the lived experiences of African American/Black mothers who worked part-time without mandated job protections, with specific attention to FMLA. General systems theory provided the theoretical framework, and an Afrocentric paradigm centered African/African American/Black voice …

Leading Where You Live: A Qualitative Multi-Case Study Of Public High School Principals Who Reside In Their School Communities, Joseph Held Feb 2026

Leading Where You Live: A Qualitative Multi-Case Study Of Public High School Principals Who Reside In Their School Communities, Joseph Held

Doctorate in Education

Despite extensive scholarship on relational trust, social capital, place-based leadership, and culturally responsive practice, little is known about how a principal’s residency within the school community shapes leadership demands. This qualitative, multi-case study employed semi-structured interviews, reflexive memoing, and cross-case thematic analysis to examine how nine Minnesota high school principals who lived in the urban, suburban, and rural communities they served experienced leadership practice, equity work, and emotional labor. Findings revealed that residency functions as a consequential leadership condition that reorganizes how principals build trust, exercise judgment, engage families, navigate boundaries, and interpret equity-related tensions. Six themes illuminated residency as: …

Ceo Duality And Environmental Efficiency : Empirical Case Study On Chinese Publicly Listed Companies Between 2015-2024, Mariam Ahmed El Taher Feb 2026

Ceo Duality And Environmental Efficiency : Empirical Case Study On Chinese Publicly Listed Companies Between 2015-2024, Mariam Ahmed El Taher

Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

The paper investigates the potential effects of CEO duality—where the CEO also chairs the board—on environmental efficiency in Chinese listed companies between 2015 and 2024. Energy intensity, or total energy use per unit of revenue, serves as a stand-in for environmental efficiency. In the full sample, CEO duality is consistently linked to higher energy intensity (≈19–27 units; p< 0.01) using firm, year, and (in the pooled models) sector fixed effects with firm-clustered standard errors, suggesting lower environmental efficiency under unified leadership. In line with creditor discipline, market capitalization is typically negative and substantial, headcount is positive, and leverage (Net Debt/EBITDA) is negative. Moderation tests reveal that leverage significantly reduces the duality–inefficiency link (Duality×Leverage ≈ −0.49; p< 0.05), while interactions with board conflicts, working capital, gender diversity, and disclosure/independence are statistically insignificant.

The study uses an instrumental-variable estimation to account for potential endogeneity, where CEO duality may itself be influenced by unobserved firm characteristics or past performance. Diagnostic tests (Anderson LM, Cragg–Donald F, and Sargan) confirm that the instrument, which is based on …

From Commonality To Unity: The Opportunities And Challenges Of Latinxs’ Cross-Racial Alliances With Blacks, Álvaro José Corral Feb 2026

From Commonality To Unity: The Opportunities And Challenges Of Latinxs’ Cross-Racial Alliances With Blacks, Álvaro José Corral

School of Political Science, Public Affairs, Legal and Security Studies Faculty Publications

As a racialized group that is subject to discrimination, US Latinxs are often considered “natural” coalitional partners for Black-led civil rights struggles. Although the BLM movement may serve as a potential site for cross-racial coalition building because both Latinxs and Blacks suffer from racial profiling by law enforcement, the development of a shared status across group boundaries hinges on the interpretation by Latinxs of both their personal- and group-level discrimination experiences. Using the 2020 CMPS, I explore how multiple dimensions of Latinx racial group consciousness (perceptions of discrimination, intra- and intergroup commonality, and racial identity) shape their cross-racial alliances with …

The Western Curriculum And Identity Conflict Among Pakistani Students, Tauqeer Abdullah, Johar Ali Feb 2026

The Western Curriculum And Identity Conflict Among Pakistani Students, Tauqeer Abdullah, Johar Ali

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia

Education systems play a critical role in shaping students’ cultural identities in an increasingly globalized world. In Pakistan, the growing presence of international schools following Western curricula exposes students to values that often diverge from local traditions. Drawing on Erikson’s identity theory, Berry’s acculturation model, and Tajfel and Turner’s social identity theory, this study examines how Western curricula influence students’ self-perception, identity conflict, and cultural alienation. Data were collected from 324 students (179 males, 145 females) enrolled in O-level and A-level programs across five international schools in Lahore, Punjab, using a cross-sectional survey design. The results indicate that Western curricula …

How Disaster Risk Shapes Voter Turnout, Laura Brugger, Pedro Spindler-Ruiz, J.S. Onesimo Sandoval

Center for Social Development Research

Climate disasters are intensifying. With the intensification comes a growing threat to democracy in the United States and to the communities that depend on fair representation. When disaster strikes, barriers arise that can silence voters, especially in communities already facing systemic inequality. This brief presents findings from an analysis of precinct-level turnout in the 2020 U.S. presidential election across over 2,000 precincts in the three cities. The cities were chosen for their size, diversity, and exposure to climate threats: hurricanes in Miami, Florida, wildfires in Los Angeles, California, and flooding in San Antonio, Texas. The findings underscore the need to …

What Is Happening In The World Today And Why: Humanity’S Evolving Consciousness And The Role Of Archetypal Energies As Guides During An Unfolding Weeding Out And Alignment Process, Carroy U. Ferguson

Psychology Faculty Publication Series

What is happening in the world today and why? Humanity is evolving its consciousness at individual and collective levels. Given these seemingly tumultuous times, as of this writing (January 2026), to make such a statement may sound like a strange thing to say. However, I suggest that if you are alive today and if you are reading these words, these are the very times for which you were born--to assist Humanity as it evolves its consciousness with your unique gifts, whatever they may be. That is, this period of our individual and collective human being-ness may be characterized as an …

The Heart Of An Educator An Autoethnographic Study Of Homeschool Practices That Reflect Core Udl Principles, Kimberly Clinton Feb 2026

The Heart Of An Educator An Autoethnographic Study Of Homeschool Practices That Reflect Core Udl Principles, Kimberly Clinton

Dissertations

The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework was at the heart of this study, which served as a critical lens for examining the instructional design practices embedded in the homeschool environment. Specifically, I examined how the three core tenets of UDL: representation, action and expression, and engagement were reflected within the Clinton Homeschool Instructional Learning Design (CHILD). The aim was to identify how homeschool instruction, as implemented by the researcher, parallels UDL principles in its responsiveness to learner variability, its emphasis on flexible instructional delivery, and its commitment to student-centered engagement. In contrast to the dominant educational paradigm, which often …

Finding Meaning In A Historical Fiction Of Cold War: A Case Study Of Pamuntjak’S Question Of Red, Margihon Bayu Putra Kaumpungan Feb 2026

Finding Meaning In A Historical Fiction Of Cold War: A Case Study Of Pamuntjak’S Question Of Red, Margihon Bayu Putra Kaumpungan

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

The Cold War and its legacy in Southeast Asia, has been considered as one of the darkest parts of the region’s history including in Indonesia. Efforts to capture the painful memory of the Cold War had been established through various means including fictional storytelling. Among many literature discussing the dark history of the era, Laksmi Pamuntjak “Question on Red” had its distinctive presence since it was written in English. The utilization of English as a medium opens the door for English speaking readers to be able to dwell into a literature work that is considerably unfamiliar to their cultural context. …

Digital Disruption And Karawitan Recordings: Paradigm Shifts, Aesthetic Challenges, And Opportunities For Cultural Preservation, Iwan Budi Santoso, Bagong Pujiono, Darno Darno Feb 2026

Digital Disruption And Karawitan Recordings: Paradigm Shifts, Aesthetic Challenges, And Opportunities For Cultural Preservation, Iwan Budi Santoso, Bagong Pujiono, Darno Darno

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

This article explores how digital recording practices, amid contemporary technological transformation, rearticulate the musical meaning of karawitan, reshape listening experience, and reorganize its modes of cultural circulation. The study is situated within broader scholarly debates on digital mediation, particularly concerning the shifting relationship between recorded sound and the socio-spatial and ritual contexts that have historically constituted karawitan performance. Using a descriptive qualitative case-study approach, the research draws on in depth interviews with musicians (pengrawit), scholars, distributors, and listeners, supported by observations of recording environments, patterns of online circulation, archival sources, and indicators of platform based distribution. The findings indicate that …

Religiosity And Ritual In The Novel Rangsang Tuban By Padmasusastra: Literary Anthropology Study, Anggra Dini, Endang Nurhayati, Suwardi Endraswara

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

Rangsang Tuban by Padmasusastra offers a rich portrayal of Javanese social life through its depiction of traditions, religious practices, and ritual activities that shape the narrative and its characters. This study aims to examine the representation of Javanese religiosity and ritual in the novel and to explore its relevance to contemporary society. The novelty of this research lies in its analysis of ritual practices as expressions of Javanese religious syncretism, revealing interactions between formal religions and local spiritual traditions. Employing a qualitative descriptive method within a literary anthropology framework, this study analyzes textual data in the form of selected quotations …

Visual Arts In Morocco: Field, Production, Reception, Ratib Soujaa Feb 2026

Visual Arts In Morocco: Field, Production, Reception, Ratib Soujaa

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

Adopting a sociology-of-art perspective, this article examines the formation of the visual arts field in Morocco by linking historical, social, cultural, political, and economic dimensions. It traces the emergence of modern painting during the Protectorate, the institutionalization of training (the Tetouan and Casablanca art schools), successive generations of artists and aesthetic ruptures, and then focuses on mediation (galleries, education, collecting, criticism, the state, and cultural policies). Using the concepts of ‘field’ and ‘mediation,’ the paper highlights relations among producers, specialists, audiences, and holders of cultural/economic capital, as well as structural deficits (museums, professional collectors, sustained programs) that shape visibility and …

Family Serenity, And More Specifically That Of The Mother Invested In Her Daughter’S Upbringing, Seems To Be Achieved Only Once The Latter Is Married, Nora Belgasmia

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

This article studies the social transfers engendered by the travel of the individuals: of the village of Kabylia Timeghras, towards the city of east Constantine algerien. Beyond an undeniable sociological reality, there is a woman, who is the central actor of this social transformation. The Kabyle woman left her village is going to adapt himself not without clashes to her new society of reception. The woman is faced with that of the environment of reception, where from the notion of obstinacy and coexistence of a tradition which crumbles off on one side and regenerates of the other one.
