Croning Academics: Menopause Matters In Higher Education, Marie Lavelle, Joanna Haynes, Emma Macleod-Johnstone

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

This writing is born out of our experiences of becoming older women, academy hags, facing the performative demands of the neoliberalising patriarchal university. We are raging. With the figure of the Crone, and feminist-killjoy-croning as our creative and livid research method (Ahmed, 2023), we squeeze time out/with impossible university spaces and schedules to tend to grey matters. The paper traces the normalisation of menopause policies in workplaces and universities, following the social trending and capitalisation of menopausal and ageing matters. We question what menopause policies do and argue they constitute a failed project for the advancement of gender equality and …

Evidence suggests diet influences the risk of both conditions directly and indirectly. Diet impacts neurochemical and biological processes that may affect the development and progression of depression and cognitive dysfunction. The dietary components offering the greatest protection against depression and AD are yet to be determined. Current evidence highlights the importance of polyphenolic compounds, folate, B vitamins, and polyunsaturated fatty acids, …

Broken Kinship: Family Property Disputes And The Common Intention Constructive Trust In Singapore, Hang Wu Tang Jul 2024

Broken Kinship: Family Property Disputes And The Common Intention Constructive Trust In Singapore, Hang Wu Tang

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

There has been a proliferation of common intention constructive trust claims in Singapore. The main reason is that families have acquired real estate using their collective earning power without explicitly considering the individual entitlement of each family member. When a dispute arises, the claim is often pleaded as a common intention constructive trust. The complication with applying the law on the common intention constructive trust is that this is an English doctrine developed to deal with a different social context i.e. the breakdown of the relationship between cohabiting couples. In Singapore, the common intention constructive trust applies primarily in a …

College of Nursing Faculty Research and Publications

Background

Forensic nurse examiners, including sexual assault nurse examiners, provide care for survivors holistically through healthcare, emotional support, connection to follow-up care, safety planning, and, if desired, evidence collection to aid in the prosecution of sexual assault. There is increasing recognition that trauma-informed care must also include an understanding of the impacts of structural violence on minoritized patients to ensure health equity.

Aim

To help address this guidance gap, we expanded Campbell and colleagues' empowering care model using a trauma- and violence-informed care (TVIC) lens.

Methods

We used an iterative discussion-based process that included five joint meetings between a seven-member …

Advancements in cardiovascular (CV) disease management are notable, yet health inequities prevail, associated with increased morbidity and mortality noted among non-Hispanic African Americans in the United States. The 2002 Institute of Medicine Report revealed ongoing racial and ethnic health care disparities, spearheading a deeper understanding of the social determinants of health and systemic racism to develop strategies for CV health equity (HE). This article outlines the strategic HE approach of the American College of Cardiology, comprising 6 strategic equity domains: workforce pathway inclusivity, health care, data, science, and tools; education and training; membership, partnership, and collaboration; advocacy and policy; and …

Exploring Negotiated Autonomy In The Physician–Physician Assistant Collaborative Dyad, Stephen Robie Jul 2024

Exploring Negotiated Autonomy In The Physician–Physician Assistant Collaborative Dyad, Stephen Robie

Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations

Physician Assistants (PAs) are integral members of multidisciplinary medical care teams who practice medicine legally under the supervision of physicians. During medical care, supervision is a dynamic process of collaboration wherein a PA who displays competence is granted increasing independence by the supervising physician. This process has been referred to as negotiated autonomy. Despite being noted in work-force literature, the mechanics of how negotiated autonomy operates in real-time have not been described. As organizations increasingly work to integrate PAs into practice, new-hire training programs called ‘on-boarding’ have been implemented to accelerate PA professional development with a goal of increased efficiency …

Reproducing And Challenging Islamophobia In News Framing Of Ilhan Omar And Rashida Tlaib, Two Prominent Muslim Women In U.S. Politics, Saiqa Shahzadi

Communication ETDs

ABSTRACT

Muslim women are frequently misrepresented in U.S. mainstream media and often portrayed adversely as a homogeneous group of women defined and silenced by religious and gender oppression. Scholarly research has documented how this historical pattern of representation ignores their intersectional, complex identities and reinforces the discourse of Islamophobia. This thesis will explore this problem in the case of the first Muslim American women elected to the U.S. House of Representatives: Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan). Drawing on theories of media framing, intersectionality, and Islamophobia, the research examined 12 in-depth stories from 2019 and 2023 in three mainstream …

African Union’S Youth Education Challenge: A Critical Review Of Agenda 2063, Ruth V. Akumbu, Jennifer Jukanovich

The Scholarship Without Borders Journal

It is no easy feat for the African Union to mobilize 55 countries of various political, tribal, and economic demographics, yet the problem remains that nearly 34 million children are out of school, and the continent is not graduating the secondary students needed for the 1.25-billion-member workforce expected by 2050 (ISS Africa, 2017). The paper aims to assess African Union strategies and make recommendations for member countries to utilize to solve educational challenges facing the continent’s growing population and market. Redefining Boundaries: Women's Strategic Position In The Evolving International Public Realm, Hirshi Anadza Jun 2024

Redefining Boundaries: Women's Strategic Position In The Evolving International Public Realm, Hirshi Anadza

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

The dichotomy of public and private is always related to the binary oppositions of women and men in social realms. Men are always the representation of the public because masculinity emphasises public discourse, war, and peace, and vice versa with women. Consequently, exploring how women position themselves within the international public sphere is imperative, particularly as the boundary between the public and private realms becomes increasingly blurred. This article argues that women could play a crucial role in this more complex public-private dichotomy while facing the international realm. Nation-states have a role as publics domestically but then change their status …

This aspect needs a thorough understanding of the feed quality of various grasses. The primary goal of this review is to judge the quality and quantity of C. gayana and P. maximum. Total dry matter …

Best Interests Of The Child In Juvenile Justice: Analysis Of Malaysia, Philippines, And Thailand, Mary Grace C. Agcaoili

Asia-Pacific Social Science Review

The “best interests of the child” (BIC) is the most referenced child rights principle in international law, whereas juvenile justice is the most mentioned topic. This paper examines how countries in Southeast Asia (SEA) interpret BIC in juvenile justice and if their understanding is consistent with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and other international standards and why. It contends that BIC’s indeterminate use led to misinterpretation of child rights and that BIC interpretation is influenced by several factors found within the socio-cultural and political economy of SEA. Using Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand as case studies …

The Fear Of Covid-19 Scale: A Case Of A Filipino Adaptation And Validation Study, Alexie Basileyo, Dennis Erasga

Asia-Pacific Social Science Review

As a significant international health emergency, COVID-19, formerly known as 2019-nCov and later termed SARS-Cov-2 or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, has introduced a myriad of behavioral, emotional, and social problems, most notably the fear of the virus itself. In response, a team of researchers developed a scale that measures COVID-19-related fear in 2020. Today, however, the scale has not been fully tested among the Filipino population in general. Hence, the present research addressed the situation by adapting and validating the original scale. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and other relevant reliability analyses were employed to assess the scale’s reliability …
