A Study Of Diet Culture In Lgbtqia+ Women’S Communities, Cait Rush Msw

All Student Scholarship

Diet culture is a pervasive aspect of the sociocultural environment characterized by contradictory messages about food and health, and a moral imperative to attain thinness (Jovanovski & Jaeger, 2022). Hallmarks of diet culture include body dissatisfaction, lowered self-esteem, and adverse mental and physical health outcomes (Calogero et al., 2018; Kinavey & Cool, 2019; Puhl et al., 2021). While research suggests that LGBTQIA+ community involvement may play a role in safeguarding positive body image (Dahlenburg et al., 2021; Hanley & McLaren, 2015), studies on body dissatisfaction among queer women have yielded mixed, often contradictory results. The purpose of this study was …

Inclusion Of Adoption As A Pregnancy Management Option In Prenatal Genetic Counseling Practice, Emma Billings

Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)

Prenatal genetic counselors are essential to providing education, psychosocial support, and guidance on pregnancy options to patients who receive a fetal diagnosis of an anomaly or genetic condition. Therefore, genetic counselors should be well-educated on comprehensive pregnancy management options consisting of parenting, abortion, and adoption. Hunting For Agriculture: Unraveling Ecological Motivations In The Transition To Farming By The Fremont Cultural Complex, Ryan Mcgrath

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present

This study explored the profound human history shift from foraging to agriculture, focusing on Utah's Fremont cultural complex. Utilizing the Prey-Rank Model, we investigated whether dwindling encounter rates with high-rank prey prompted the Fremont's adoption of agriculture. We quantified past resource trends by analyzing the Utah archaeofaunal database to discern if ecological conditions influenced this transition. If confirmed, it suggests adaptive responses to a decline in high-ranked game led to a more resource-intensive survival strategy. This research provides crucial insights into the motivations behind the Fremont's agricultural adoption, enhancing our understanding of human-environment interactions and adaptations throughout history.

Cultivating Atmosphere In Independent Coffee Shops: Reflections On How Atmospheres Are Created Through Sensory Experiences, Brooke Bierhaus Sutton

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Affective atmosphere is a fundamental component to the allure of coffee shops that is cultivated through sensory experience. In this thesis I examine how the sensory experience of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, create atmospheres in coffee shops. By using memoir and reflexive analysis of my decade in global coffee culture, as well as an extensive literary review, …

How Does A Supervisor's Training And Experience Relate To A School Counselor's Development Of Knowledge And Skills, Timothy M. Conway

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

This study and the literature demonstrate an overwhelming need for clinical supervision, but there is still a paucity of research on school counseling supervision. Clinical supervision in counseling requires at least three aspects: 1) clinical supervisors received formal training; 2) the belief that clinical supervision has strong effectiveness on supervisees' competence; and 3) a mental health professional provides supervision. School counselors continue to reference a need for supervision, but most notably, a gap for clinical supervision. School counselors are mostly supervised by principals, who reference their shortcomings in supervising the clinical skills of school counselors. Without effective supervision, school counselor's …

I analyze LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ student experiences and satisfaction with their school. The quantitative results of this research find that LGBTQ+ students have a markedly different campus …

In addition, Black women are being challenged more and questioned regarding their abilities and roles by peers, students, and academic administration. Research studies in the past have demonstrated the underrepresentation of Black …

Major Factors Of Sustaining Recovery After Relapse From A Substance Use Disorder, Amanda Tei Sandhurst

Relapse is a common and often-expected occurrence among individuals with substance use disorders. Relapse can be defined as returning to a problematic behavior after abstaining for a period of time (Marlatt & Witkiewitz, 2005). It is the inability to maintain life in sobriety and is not an isolated event, but rather a process (Gorski & Kelley, 1996). The problem with relapse is that it can result in continued substance use and abuse, which can then lead to other major consequences. This study looks at ten individuals in recovery who experienced a past relapse after having a period of abstinence and …
