Merawat Tulisan Dan Perlawanan Perempuan: Terbitan Berkala Sebagai Ruang Dan Praktik Feminis, Asri Pratiwi Wulandari, Mia Siscawati

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya

Women writers have always contributed to literary development, but their works and thoughts have been structurally forgotten and erased. We conducted this research to unearth women writers' lives, works, and thoughts, which continue to be ignored in literary studies. We use feminist qualitative method and literature review technique to study literary initiatives from women writers in the past such as women-only periodicals. This research uses Virginia Woolf's thoughts as an analytical tool, and our findings show that the women-only space initiative was a response to the mainstream literary ecosystem's lack of support for women writers in various eras and countries. …

Visual Narrative Through The Wimba Approach In Tahilalats Comic With Campaign Theme Bersama Stop Judi Online, Rangga Pangkuluhur Gumelar, Basnendar Herry Prilosadoso

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

Comics, as a medium for conveying ideas and concepts through imagery, integrate textual and visual elements to construct meaning and communicate messages effectively. Their distinctive visual communication enables the delivery of complex social issues in an accessible manner through characters, panels, layouts, and visual representations of sound and dialogue. This study analyzes the Tahilalats comic (2024 edition), which incorporates the hashtag #bersamastopjudol as part of a visual campaign against online gambling addiction. The narrative is presented entirely through images without verbal language. The research applies Primadi Tabrani’s Wimba theory to decode visual language and Roland Barthes’ semiotics to interpret symbolic …

Kekerasan Terhadap Perempuan Dalam Cerpen “Penguburan Kembali Sitaresmi”, “Jemari Kiri”, Dan “Leteh”: Kajian Interseksionalitas, Rudi Ekasiswanto

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya

This research discusses the typology of violence in the short stories “Penguburan Kembali Sitaresmi”, “Jemari Nayla”, and “Leteh” by using Johan Galtung’s concept. The analysis also employs an intersectional approach to reveal the social categories that enable violence and to compare the violence across the three short stories. This research shows several findings. Firstly, in the first short story, direct violence (murder) and structural violence (marginalization) occur. In the second story, there is direct violence (sexual harassment) and structural violence (marginalization). In the third story, structural violence (stigmatization) is prevalent. Secondly, all three stories depict violence against women, but they …

A Guide For Applying Grounded Theory In Qualitative Research, Irja Shaanika, Tiko Iyamu Aug 2025

A Guide For Applying Grounded Theory In Qualitative Research, Irja Shaanika, Tiko Iyamu

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Grounded theory (GT) has been applied numerous times in qualitative research across disciplines. Yet, challenges remain in applying it. The challenges are attributed to its complexity, particularly because of its diversity as a research design and data collection method. Consequently, researchers, particularly emerging researchers and postgraduates, are drifting away from the theory. Primarily, the complexity arises from two fronts: (1) confusion, not being able to differentiate between its use as a design strategy and data collection technique, and (2) standardisation, a lack of understanding of when to stop in its iterative process. This study provides a structured, simplistic guide for …

Strategies For Dealing With Psychological Stress Among Widowed Women In Jordan, Suhaila Banat, Ahmed Al-Shareefen, Fuad Al-Jawaldeh

Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series

This study aimed to identify strategies for dealing with stress among widowed women in Jordan. The sample consisted of 119 widows who were visiting the Sweileh and Mabarat Umm al-Hussein orphanage centers. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researchers developed a stress management strategies scale consisting of 67 items divided into ten strategies. The results of the study indicated that the strategy of religious orientation was the most commonly used strategy among widowed women, while the strategies of verbal and physical aggression ranked last. The findings also showed that there were statistically significant differences in widows’ responses to …

Reconceptualizing Local Wisdom Values In Regulations For Micro And Small Enterprises In Maluku To Support Local Economic Development, Isis Ikhwansyah, Ema Rahmawati, Yosia Hetharie

Padjadjaran Jurnal Ilmu Hukum (Journal of Law)

This study seeks to examine and evaluate the efficacy of implementing the principle of "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (unity in diversity), which embodies local wisdom, in the governance of micro and small enterprises in Maluku Province as an aspect of local legal development. The principle of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika needs to be incorporated into laws and regulations, particularly regional legal mechanisms related to micro and small enterprises, in compliance with the Law on the Formation of Legislation. In Maluku's legal landscape, many regional legal products pertaining to micro and small enterprises fail to incorporate the principles of local wisdom into their …

Pandering With Worksheets: Graduate Professors’ Pedagogies, Chris Mayer Aug 2025

Pandering With Worksheets: Graduate Professors’ Pedagogies, Chris Mayer

Journal of Graduate Education Research

This exploratory, arts-based study investigates how three tenured professors in a humanities department conceptualize graduate-level teaching and envision their ideal graduate classrooms. Through semi-structured interviews, qualitative coding, and arts-based interpretation, the study identifies three key tensions in their pedagogical thinking: balancing independence and structure, the stigma surrounding “undergraddy” approaches, and valuing long-term intellectual struggle as a means to master threshold concepts. Despite clear visions for ideal pedagogies, professors face significant barriers to implementing them, including time constraints and entrenched norms about what graduate education “ought” to look like. Findings suggest that despite strong pedagogical insight, professors struggle to bridge the …

“We Are Swans:” An Ecological Analysis Of U.S. International Students’ Experiences Of Higher Education Satisfaction, Eunsong Park, Corey S. Shdaimah, Yao Wang

Journal of Graduate Education Research

International students make important contributions to the US academic landscape and broader society; however, their numbers continue to decline in the face of an unwelcoming and unsupportive environment compared to their counterparts worldwide. This manuscript presents findings from a student satisfaction survey (n = 423) that included both multiple-choice and open-ended questions. We used the ecological model and the Spanning Systems Model as a framework, looking at how individual, community, institutional, and larger societal factors impacted the experiences of international students in the US. For quantitative analysis, hierarchical multiple linear regressions were conducted to examine factors associated with student satisfaction. …

Public Benefits Cliffs And Asset Limits Harm The Economic Mobility Of Young Adult Workers, Stephen Roll, Mathieu Despard, Guangli Zhang Aug 2025

Public Benefits Cliffs And Asset Limits Harm The Economic Mobility Of Young Adult Workers, Stephen Roll, Mathieu Despard, Guangli Zhang

Center for Social Development Research

At its best, the public benefits system in the United States helps families avoid poverty’s most severe effects while also giving them a hand up. But the system also can keep working families in poverty. Workers may want to earn more money, take better jobs, or save for the future, but doing so can raise their income above program limits, causing workers to lose the benefits they and their families need to survive. This is known as the benefits cliff. This brief draws upon data from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility survey to explore how benefits cliffs and related …

Trauma-Informed Teaching Guidebook A Resource For Supporting Students, Autumn Shipley-Mellon Aug 2025

Trauma-Informed Teaching Guidebook A Resource For Supporting Students, Autumn Shipley-Mellon

Masters Projects

Many students in the K–12 education system have experienced trauma, yet schools often lack the tools and structures to adequately support them. This project addresses that gap by creating a trauma-informed teaching guidebook for educators. Grounded in current research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma’s effects on child development, the guidebook provides practical, easy-to-implement strategies. It focuses on building supportive relationships, creating safe and predictable environments, managing behavior with empathy, and designing classrooms that foster emotional regulation and connection. The goal is to support both student well-being and teacher effectiveness. The guidebook is intended to be shared with educators …

Awake And Alive: An Investigation Into Content For A Music Course Incorporating The Sciences, Harrison Boraas Aug 2025

Awake And Alive: An Investigation Into Content For A Music Course Incorporating The Sciences, Harrison Boraas

Masters Theses

The purpose of this qualitative, instrumental case study was to identify the content for an interdisciplinary course about music and the brain that educates collegiate students about the benefits of lifelong music engagement. Despite increasing awareness of musical relevance to the human brain, many institutions of higher learning continue to teach music as its isolated area of study without connecting it to other fields that could benefit from incorporating it or vice versa. The sample size consisted of four to seven experts that were either community experts or Liberty University faculty in the fields of science, medicine, or music within …

Youth Comorbidity Patterns And Research Domain Criteria (Rdoc)-Informed Factors: A Scoping Review Of Person-Centered Psychopathology Research, June Yung Kim, Wenxing Wei, Liat R. Johnson, Sarah Balser, Anne Marie Gruber

Faculty Publications

Purpose: High rates of comorbid psychopathology have driven a growing body of person-centered research to understand the grouping structure of youth comorbidity by identifying meaningful comorbidity patterns and validating them with neurobehavioral factors. The National Institute of Mental Health’s Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) offers an etiological framework for systematically identifying constructs organized around major functioning domains. This scoping review study mapped person-centered comorbidity studies and synthesized the RDoC-informed factors of comorbidity patterns. Materials and

Methods: We followed Arksey and O’Malley’s methodological framework. Five databases (e.g. PubMed and CINAHL) were searched. Twenty-five peer-reviewed studies examining comorbidity patterns in youth up to …

The Relations Between Online Communication, Social Capital, And Well-Being In Chinese Preadolescents, Xiaotong Li Aug 2025

The Relations Between Online Communication, Social Capital, And Well-Being In Chinese Preadolescents, Xiaotong Li

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

In the digital era, preadolescents (aged 9–12 years) increasingly use social media platforms for communication and social interactions. However, research on whether online communication contributes positively or negatively to preadolescents’ well-being is inconclusive. Moreover, the underlying mechanism linking preadolescents’ online communication and well-being remains unclear. Hence, the research objectives are twofold. First, based on the concepts of social enhancement perspectives and self-determination theory, this study investigates the bidirectional relations and potential mechanisms between preadolescents’ online communication factors (including frequency, online self-disclosure, online perceived responsiveness) with four targets (family members, real-life friends, online friends, and online strangers) and well-being (including subjective …

Covid-19 Prevention Behaviors Are Congruent Within Social Networks Of Disenfranchised Hispanic And Criminal Legal Involved Community Members, Victoria Umutoni, Khavita Bhavan, Nickolas Zaller, Amelia Knopf, Moctezuma Garcia, Russell A. Brewer, Makenna Meyer, Faye Taxman, O’Dell Johnson, Matthew Aalsma, John Schneider

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The COVID-19 (COVID) pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on people who have low income and identify as Hispanic or Latinx (PLIH) as well as those with criminal Legal Involvement (CLI). These two groups, and their intersection, are often disenfranchised from livable wage employment, basic social services, and healthcare, which are vital to prevent the spread of COVID. We examined baseline data from the Community Network-Driven COVID Testing of Marginalized Population in the Central US (C3) which included 1036 participants: 32.1% PLIH, 39.6% CLI, 10.6% who identified as both PLIH and CLI, and 17.6% who were neither PLIH nor CLI. …

The Relationship Between Self-Care, Resilience And Burnout, And The Role Of Self-Esteem And Self-Awareness To Facilitate Self-Care Among School Counselors, Sarah C. Mccarthy

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

School counselors play a pivotal role in fostering students’ academic, social, and emotional development. School counselors are responsible for addressing a wide range of student needs, such as academic advising, assisting in behavior management, crisis intervention, and mental health support. Being in this position that requires many responsibilities, coupled with high student-to-counselor ratios, many school counselors report having elevated stress levels, potentially leading to the feeling of burnout. Therefore, the purpose of this study focuses on three goals: (1) Determine which self-care practices, and at what frequency, are being used by school counselors to determine which type of self-care practices …

Passing The Torch: Evaluating Documentation Quality And Its Impact On Nurses’ Perceptions Of Communication Across Va Care Transitions, Shannon Collier Baker Aug 2025

Passing The Torch: Evaluating Documentation Quality And Its Impact On Nurses’ Perceptions Of Communication Across Va Care Transitions, Shannon Collier Baker

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Effective communication during transitions of care is crucial to ensuring patient safety and optimizing outcomes. However, current practices may fall short in supporting clear and comprehensive communication among healthcare providers, particularly during complex care transitions involving Veterans who have received targeted care coordination intervention outside of their primary Patient Aligned Care Team. The absence of standardized tools for handoff documentation exacerbates fragmented communication and ambiguity about the transfer of care management responsibilities, potentially leading to avoidable errors and care coordination failures. This project aimed to investigate nurses' perceptions of the adequacy of communication during the transition of moderate to complex …
