Navigating Succession: Exploring Succession Planning Strategies In Polish Family Businesses, Jan M. Klaczak, Theresa M. Neal, Yvonne Doll Sep 2025

Navigating Succession: Exploring Succession Planning Strategies In Polish Family Businesses, Jan M. Klaczak, Theresa M. Neal, Yvonne Doll

International Journal of Applied Management and Technology

Family businesses are the foundation of modern economies and societies, yet many encounter continuity challenges during succession. The purpose of this qualitative, multiple-case study grounded in Rothwell’s seven-step model for succession planning was to explore succession planning strategies Polish family business leaders used for ownership and leadership transfer to the next generation. Three family business leaders who executed succession planning in their firms participated in the study. Data were collected via semistructured interviews, researcher notes, and company document reviews. Using methodological triangulation and Yin’s five-step data analysis, four themes emerged: systematic succession, grooming the successor, communication with nonfamily stakeholders, and …

Ethnographic Dilemmas And Reflexive Thoughts Of A Contemplative Jewish Anthropologist, Elazar Ben-Lulu Dr. Sep 2025

Ethnographic Dilemmas And Reflexive Thoughts Of A Contemplative Jewish Anthropologist, Elazar Ben-Lulu Dr.

The Qualitative Report

During ethnographic fieldwork, anthropologists of religion grapple with various dilemmas regarding their participation in the rituals they study. How do they make real-time decisions between full participation and observational distance? Do they manage to participate harmoniously in religious activities even during moments of doubt or questioning of their own faith? Based on my three-year fieldwork in Israeli Reform Jewish congregations, which included observations and in-depth interviews, I demonstrate how my reflexive experience which exposes my internal Jewish dialogue, shaped my patterns of participation and motivation in engaging with various rituals. This autoethnographic description illustrates that my deliberate abstention or avoidance …

Social Work: School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Other Works

This study examined how ecosystemic factors—gender, exposure to community violence, attachment to parents, children’s hope, commitment to school, and concern about community safety—affect internalizing and externalizing behaviors among African American, Latinx, and Asian American youth (N = 212) in Chicago. Additionally, this study tested whether CH served as a moderating factor in the relationship between concern about CCS and internalizing and externalizing behaviors among youth who are racial minorities. Hierarchical multivariate regression analyses found that the effects of ecosystemic factors varied depending on the youth’s racial contexts. The moderating effects of CH were found to reduce internalizing and externalizing behaviors …

Rethinking School Nutrition Via Community Engagement: A Review With Implications For Indonesia’S Mbg Program, Adnan Achiruddin Saleh, Suparman Abdullah, Rahmat Muhammad, Muhammad Yusran Amir, Sulvinajayanti Sulvinajayanti

Media Kesehatan Masyarakat Indonesia

Community engagement has become a growing concern in the implementation of school nutrition programs, particularly in addressing issues of child malnutrition, food insecurity, and educational outcomes. However, definitions and levels of participation remain conceptually fragmented across various studies. This study aims to systematically review the scope, forms, and implications of community engagement in school-based nutrition programs. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted on 89 Scopus-indexed publications from 1984 to 2025 using the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Thematic analysis was employed to identify the conceptual, methodological, and contextual variations of community involvement. Data were collected through document analysis of peer-reviewed journal …

Land Struggles, Resistance, And Mutual Protection Along The Colorado-New Mexico Border: The Sacred Right Of Self-Preservation, José A. Rivera Ph.D

Faculty Publications

Mutual protection societies proliferated in the American Southwest during a period of rapid social change, 1870-1930, coincident with significant changes in the region’s political economy and increased competition for land and water resources. To resist encroachment and protect their natural resources, hispano communities in Colorado and New Mexico organized mutual benefit and protective associations known as mutualistas, with a large number concentrated in the San Luis Valley of Colorado as well as in many rural counties of northcentral New Mexico. The Costilla Valley of New Mexico is a prototypical hispano settlement initially established as part of the expansive Sangre …

I Think I Can: Kindergarten Teacher Perceptions On The Impact Of Loose Parts Play On Self-Efficacy Behaviors, Adena Rene Thomsa Sep 2025

I Think I Can: Kindergarten Teacher Perceptions On The Impact Of Loose Parts Play On Self-Efficacy Behaviors, Adena Rene Thomsa

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Play in the classroom is often a source of debate. The merits of play on early childhood development are well documented, especially regarding self-efficacy - an individual’s belief in their ability to perform a task or complete a goal. Self-efficacy has, in turn, been linked to academic resilience and achievement. Despite these findings, research shows a decline in unstructured play opportunities in both preschool and kindergarten. During a play intervention study, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers were interviewed about student behaviors before, during, and after loose parts and other playful materials were added to their classroom environment. This thesis examines the …

Buprenorphine/Naloxone Therapy For Opioid Withdrawal, Medication-Assisted Treatment, And Pain Management In An Adolescent Patient, Sindhu H. Manjunath, Michael Spickler, Annas Aljassem

Conference Presentation Abstracts

Introduction: Opioid addiction is a chronic disorder centered around craving and compulsive use of prescription or non-medical opioids. The last three decades have seen a dramatic increase in opioid use order (OUD) in the United States, with about 87,000 adolescents in the 12–17 age group estimated to have OUD in 2019. Less than 10% receive medication-assisted treatment (MAT). We present a case of a 17-year-old male who received treatment with buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) for withdrawal management, MAT and acute pain.

Case Description: A 17-year-old-male with a history of anxiety, depression, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) presented to the emergency department (ED) …

A Not-Quite-Assessment Of Assessing Autoethnography: Ekphrastic Compositions On Quality, Clarity, And (Un)Certainty In Autoethnography, Aaron Hoy Sep 2025

A Not-Quite-Assessment Of Assessing Autoethnography: Ekphrastic Compositions On Quality, Clarity, And (Un)Certainty In Autoethnography, Aaron Hoy

The Qualitative Report

Taking an ekphrastic approach, this essay responds to and reflects on my reading of Assessing Autoethnography: Notes on Analysis, Evaluation, and Craft by Andrew F. Herrmann and Tony E. Adams. It has three parts. First, I summarize the book’s central chapters and discuss their practical uses, especially as prompts for in-progress autoethnographies. Second, using clarity as a point of entry, I explore a tension I felt while reading the book—between the comforting utility of specific criteria and the marginalizing power of criteria themselves. Finally, I share a found poem composed in response to the book and reflect on the impermanent …

Women Clergy Members' Perceptions Of Mentorship Strategies For Leader Development, Linda Ann Brady Sep 2025

Women Clergy Members' Perceptions Of Mentorship Strategies For Leader Development, Linda Ann Brady

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

According to recent studies, women were underrepresented in senior leadership in the global Christian church, and leadership pathways for the development of women were often lacking. The local problem within the International Christian Church (ICC) was a lack of understanding of holistic mentoring strategies that support the development of women clergy members, which could help fill the current leadership gap. Guided by Dahlvig and Longman’s model of women’s leadership development, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the perceptions of women clergy regarding holistic mentoring strategies that might increase the number of women in leadership within the …

The Role Of Community Engaged Dental Education In Producing Socially Accountable Graduates In The Context Of The General Dental Council's Safe Practitioner Framework, Anastasios Plessas, Martha Paisi, Nilufar Ahmed, Zoe Brookes, Robert Witton

Peninsula Dental School

The General Dental Council's Safe Practitioner Framework sets out the required behaviours and learning outcomes for UK graduates across four domains, and social accountability is a new competency in the domain of professionalism. Community engagement is a type of community-based education, which has been advocated as a promising pedagogical approach to help institutions produce socially accountable graduates. It is conceptualised as a form of experiential education which uses community exposure educational programmes or activities (i.e., students are exposed to the population/community of interest usually in a non-clinical setting) to highlight and address community health care needs. Community engaged education can …

Abolition And Social Work: Dismantling Carceral Logics To Build Systems Of Care, Durrell M. Washington, Brittany Ribeiro Brown, Diana Ballesteros, Rebecca Lynn Davis Sep 2025

Abolition And Social Work: Dismantling Carceral Logics To Build Systems Of Care, Durrell M. Washington, Brittany Ribeiro Brown, Diana Ballesteros, Rebecca Lynn Davis

School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations

Social work has historically operated as an extension of the carceral state, embedding policing, surveillance, and punishment into youth-serving institutions under the guise of care. This paper examines carceral seepage—the infiltration of punitive logics into social work practice—across child welfare, education, and juvenile legal, revealing how these systems function as interconnected circuits of criminalization rather than support. Using abolitionist frameworks, we critique social work’s complicity in punitive interventions and address common concerns about safety, scalability, and sustainability. Instead of reforming oppressive institutions, we argue for a fundamental transformation of social work, advocating for non-carceral models such as community-led crisis response, …

Athletes As Ace Ambassadors: A Framework For Integrating Sports Personalities Into Climate Communication Strategies, Abderrahim Baalla Sep 2025

Athletes As Ace Ambassadors: A Framework For Integrating Sports Personalities Into Climate Communication Strategies, Abderrahim Baalla

COP30

Global institutions face a critical "volume-over-impact" communication crisis, where thousands of official reports and meetings fail to translate into public engagement. This systemic issue is directly applicable to the climate sector, where conventional communication struggles to cut through the noise. This failure particularly undermines Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), as it hinders efforts to raise awareness and provide vital climate education to the public, especially youth. To address this gap, this paper proposes the 'Athletes for Climate Empowerment (ACE) Ambassadors' Framework. Based on successful models like the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador program, this framework provides a practical pathway to formalize and …

Describing The Retention Experiences Of Special Education Teachers In Rural California: A Phenomenological Study, Adriel Gama Reynoso Sep 2025

Describing The Retention Experiences Of Special Education Teachers In Rural California: A Phenomenological Study, Adriel Gama Reynoso

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the retention experiences of special education teachers who taught in rural elementary school districts in California. Retention was generally defined as a teacher who was influenced to stay with their district for a long time. The theory guiding this study was Herzberg’s two-factor theory of motivation-hygiene. This theory was particularly effective in addressing teacher retention because it provided a clear framework for understanding the factors that contribute to job satisfaction and dissatisfaction. This transcendental phenomenological study described the retention of special education teachers who taught in rural elementary school districts …

Nursing Students' Lgbtq+ Healthcare Knowledge And Attitudes: A Roadmap For Interventions, Judith Bacchus Cornelius, Charlene Downing, Ryan Michael Oducado, Evangelos C. Fradelos, Riksa Wibawa Resna

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Purpose: While awareness of LGBTQ+ health needs is rising, these topics remain underrepresented in nursing curricula, often due to limited faculty preparation and absence of standardized guidelines (Dalbey, 2023; Moore et al., 2023). This educational gap affects nursing students’ readiness to care for LGBTQ+ patients, particularly in non-Western settings, where cross-cultural research is limited (Ozcan et al,, 2021; Wang et al., 2022. This study examined nursing students' knowledge and attitudes toward LGBTQ+ healthcare across five countries—the United States (U.S.), South Africa, the Philippines, Greece, and Indonesia.

Methods: A quantitative descriptive study was conducted with 150 third-year undergraduate nursing students who …

Measuring Hospital Case Management Practice Environment: Adaption And Validation Of The Pes-Nwi, Kristen A. Berryman, Rula Btoush, Olga F. Jarrin

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

The Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index (PES-NWI) has been used to measure the work environment across diverse nursing populations for over two decades (Lake, 2002; Lake et al., 2023). Case management, a specialty nursing practice centered around care coordination, aims to meet the clinical and financial goals of medically and socially complex individuals across the care continuum (Luther et al., 2019). Hospital case management practice is complex, and case managers often face work barriers, including unclear scope of practice and insufficient training upon entering the specialty (Anderson & Hewner, 2021; McLaughlin Davis & Morley, 2022). There is …

Examining The Feedback Effects Of The Child And Family Services Review Process On The Child Welfare Caseworker, Molly Blanchette Sep 2025

Examining The Feedback Effects Of The Child And Family Services Review Process On The Child Welfare Caseworker, Molly Blanchette

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Child and Family Services Review (CFSR) is a federally mandated continuous quality improvement process that sets and assesses national child welfare performance standards. The CFSR impacts agency practices and caseworker responsibilities. Research has linked high turnover rates, averaging around 30% nationally, to agency-related variables, some of which are influenced by the CFSR. Given this context, it was necessary to understand how the CFSR performance standards impact the workforce. Policy feedback theory grounded this study as it was used to examine the feedback effects of the CFSR on child welfare caseworkers. The research question was “How are the federal performance …

A Strategy For Implementing Automatic Enrollment In Trump Accounts, Jin Huang, Michael Sherraden, Lissa Johnson Sep 2025

A Strategy For Implementing Automatic Enrollment In Trump Accounts, Jin Huang, Michael Sherraden, Lissa Johnson

Center for Social Development Research

In the summer of 2025, the United States created the framework for a national asset-building initiative, but the success of the Trump Accounts policy depends in part on effective implementation. This brief presents a two-step strategy for ensuring that all eligible U.S. children will be able to participate in the program. Leveraging existing federal infrastructure to create capacity for automatic enrollment, this strategy would enable the policy to avoid the high costs and low participation rates of programs with opt-in enrollment structures. The operational model would be built on two foundational components: a centralized Trump Accounts Fund and an automated …
