Chi Square Analysis Of The Supported Employment And Unsuccessful Placement Survey To Assess Individualized Needs When Program Planning, Melissa S. Nelson

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

This study is a chi square analysis of the Supported Employment Survey (SES) and the Unsuccessful Placement Survey (UPS) developed for the purpose of this study. Subjects included 76 males and 35 females ranging from the ages of 19 to 64. All of the individuals included in this survey have been involved in supported employment programs throughout the state of West Virginia. Individuals were surveyed based on DSM-IV diagnosed disability (mental retardation verses mental illness), support networks during placement (living independently or with a family member), and previous experience in sheltered workshops prior to placement in support employment programs. This study investigated the characteristics of student judicial offenders. The sample of 1,179 college students who were found guilty of violating rules and standards at a Midwestern university over a ten year period, 1985–1994. Nineteen demographic characteristics were examined. These variables were: alcohol use, maternalEducation and occupation, paternalEducation and occupation, a measure of socio-economic status, hometown size, affiliation in a Greek letter organization, major, semester and cumulative grade point average, class standing, ethnicity, gender, residence, and verbal, math and total SAT scores. The Impact Of Learning Environment And Gender On Client Satisfaction With Counseling, Denise Thornhill

This study investigated whether clients of different genders perceive the counselor differently when they work with a counselor whose therapeutic interventions correspond with the client's learning style. The sample consisted of 380 undergraduate students from universities in three geographical regions of the country. Participants were randomly assigned to groups based on learning style and gender. The three independent variables in the study were: (1) learning environment; (2) match between client learning style and the learning environment provided by the counselor; and (3) client gender. Employment Expectation Profiles As A Differential Measure Of Employment-Relevant Attitudes Towards People With Disabilities, Michael J. Millington, D. Rosenthal, A. Lott

Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling Faculty Publications

The ability of the Employment Expectation Questionnaire-Beta version (EEQ-B) to differentially describe employment relevant attitudes towards people with disabilities was investigated. Labels of cognitive disability and gender were manipulated in an analog study. Respondents from a convenience sample of students read stimulus material concerning a job and job applicant and then rated the applicant's qualification for the job. A significant effect was found for disability, but not for gender or interaction effects. Post hoc contrasts suggest that labels of cognitive disability (mental retardation, mental illness, and traumatic brain injury) had a differential effect across the factors of the EEQ-B.

Incarceration in the United States has increased dramatically in recent years. The total number of inmates under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) on September 30, 1995, was 100,958, an increase of over 11,000 (12%) from January 1, 1994 (U. S. Department of Justice, 1995a) and an increase o f over 60,000 (152%) from 1981 (U. S. Department of Justice, 1994a). Approximately 92% of this population is male. Rubin and McCampbell (1995) point out that conservative estimates indicate that 6-8% (6,000-8,000) of inmates currently under BOP control exhibit a major mental disorder, such as bipolar affective disorder, …
