Emerging evidence suggests genetic ancestry may influence childhood cancer outcomes, but its impact on pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is unknown. We explored genetic ancestry's impact on survival among children with RMS. This multi-center observational cohort study is a secondary analysis of previously collected biobanking, genomic, and clinical data. The study included 920 individuals with newly diagnosed RMS under 40 years of age enrolled from 2005 to 2017 under the COG soft tissue sarcoma biobanking protocol D9902. The primary endpoints were (1) event-free survival (EFS), defined as the time from study enrollment to tumor recurrence/progression, secondary malignancy, or death from any cause; …

Genome sequencing is a powerful and comprehensive test that detects multiple variants of different types. The interrogation of variants across the genome enables the identification of multiple molecular diagnoses (MMDs) in a single individual. In this retrospective study, we describe individuals in whom MMDs were associated with the proband's indication for testing (IFT), secondary findings, or incidental findings. An MMD is considered where at least one of the findings is associated with the primary IFT and all variants are classified as either likely pathogenic or pathogenic. Clinical genome sequencing was performed for all individuals as part of the iHope program …

With expectations, dreams, and curiosity, in mid-June the new sailors who had enlisted this spring joined their companies. Saying goodbye to boot camp and moving to new posts, some new sailors experienced "acclimatization issues" in the unfamiliar environment. How can we help new comrades smoothly get through the "second adjustment period"? Each unit must carefully monitor the characteristics of the new sailors in addition to guiding and educating them. This issue's “Pathways of Youth” special edition brings you the stories and experiences of naval units as they work to effectively manage the integration of new sailors into their companies.

Cannabis And Covid: An Interrupted Time Series Analysis Of Their Impact On Mental Health-Related Hospital Visits In Rural Arizona (2016-2023), Jennifer Megan Suter
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Arizona’s rural communities face shortages in mental health care services. In 2020, the nearly simultaneous onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the legalization of recreational cannabis introduced overlapping public health stressors that may have disproportionately affected these vulnerable populations. However, their combined impact on rural mental health remains understudied. This three-manuscript dissertation employed interrupted time series analyses to assess how these events influenced monthly hospital visits for schizophrenia, psychosis, cannabis-induced psychosis, and suicidal behaviors among rural Arizona adults aged 21 and older. A total of 16,468 records from the Arizona State Inpatient and Emergency Department Databases (SID and SEDD) met …

BACKGROUND: Communication among health care professionals is essential for effective clinical care. Asynchronous text-based clinician communication-secure messaging-is rapidly becoming the preferred mode of communication. The use of secure messaging platforms across health care institutions creates large-scale communication networks that can be used to characterize how interaction structures affect the behaviors and outcomes of network members. However, the understanding of the structure and interactions within these networks is relatively limited.
OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the characteristics of a large-scale secure messaging network and its association with health care professional messaging behaviors.
METHODS: Data on electronic health record-integrated secure messaging use from …

Plants, Soils and Climate Student Research
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a globally vital forage crop valued for its perennial growth and multiple annual harvests. A breeding effort is underway to improve the crop for productivity and persistence against biotic and abiotic stresses using “creeping rootedness,” a trait where plants exhibit horizontal root growth, similar to rhizomes, with increased vegetative ground surface area. In this study, we genotyped a breeding population of 648 alfalfa lines segregating for creeping rootedness using the 3K DArTag marker panel to identify trait-associated genomic loci and evaluate the feasibility of genomic prediction to accelerate breeding cycles. Using genome-wide association studies …

Aortic stenosis is the most prevalent valvular disease globally. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has become a well-established treatment for aortic stenosis, offering outcomes comparable to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Its use has expanded to include younger, lower-risk patients and those with more complex anatomies. Recent advancements in TAVR include the increased adoption of transfemoral access, prosthesis designs optimized for challenging anatomies, enhanced delivery systems with repositioning capabilities, and outer skirts to minimize paravalvular leaks. Despite these innovations, several challenges remain. This review highlights recent updates in transcatheter heart valve (THV) systems, leaflet modification devices, and the current limitations …

Social Forestry As Solution To Agrarian Conflicts? A Case Study Between Oil Palm Smallholders And Industrial Plantations In Jambi, Indonesia, Muhammad Reza Halomoan, Arya Hadi Dharmawan, Satyawan Sunito
Forest and Society
Extraction activities across Indonesia have caused drastic changes to forest ecologies. The Indonesian government responded to this through a policy of Industrial Plantation Forest concessions, which were given to the private sector in the hopes of overcoming damages from forest extraction activities while at the same time utilizing unproductive forest land. However, this policy does not pay attention to the existence of people who de facto control and use the land and has triggered new conflicts around agrarian claims based on different interpretations of land rights. In an effort to resolve conflicts, the government has implemented a community-based forest area …

Forest and Society
Many social forestry projects have failed to produce expected outcomes. In many cases, they do not suit specific local contexts, problems, and needs because they only articulate the interests of powerful actors outside local communities. In this study, we examine how nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) affect social forestry implementation. In many cases, NGOs are characterized as benevolent actors, often claiming to represent voiceless groups, including poor local communities, in the social forestry context. We are specifically interested in analyzing the ways by which the studied NGOs have shaped the implementation of social forestry models in the forests managed by the state …

Forest and Society
Tectonics literally and figuratively create rhythms for living in the seismically active nation of Indonesia where shifting plates generate landforms around which cultures construct their homelands. Eastern Indonesian communities who have built their societies around the region’s dynamic watersheds have constructed traditional ecological knowledge and place-based skills for accessing freshwater. What is the water-related knowledge and skills of Indigenous societies who live in the tropical monsoon climate zone of Nusa Tenggara Timur Province (NTT)? How have communities living on Sumba Island in southern NTT adapted to their homelands where they find water to pose the most difficult challenge to survival? …

Dynamic and selective steering of traffic through a security device can create a certain level of interdependence between the security operations (SecOps) and network operations (NetOps) that traditionally operate as independent teams. For example, any deviation in the strict enforcement of the true traffic steering intent advised/authored by a SecOps team and configured by a NetOps teams on network devices can result in compliance issues and possibly security breaches. This submission proposes novel techniques that allow a SecOps team to independently audit and validate steering enforcement actions configured and managed by a NetOps team in order to ensure compliance with …

The present disclosure provides a method and a system for managing Invoice-on-Behalf (IoB) within open-loop transaction networks. The method comprises identifying a portable financial device enabled for IoB at a merchant system and generating an authorization request for an IoB transaction. The authorization request is then approved at an issuer system, followed by transmitting an authorization response back to the merchant system. At a Point-Of-Sale (POS) system associated with the merchant system, issuance of a VAT invoice is suppressed.
