Load Balancing Algorithms For Cloud Computing Systems, Mark Rakesh Christian Jul 2026

Load Balancing Algorithms For Cloud Computing Systems, Mark Rakesh Christian

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

Cloud computing depends on load balancing to allocate user requests among virtual machines (VMs), affecting response time, utilization, and scalability. Round Robin, Equally Spread Current Execution, and standard Throttled scheduling are widely used; however, standard Throttled selects among eligible VMs using an implementation-dependent order with no explicit preference. This thesis proposes the Weighted Throttled Load Balancing (WTLB) algorithm, which introduces an explicit, deterministic selection priority among eligible VMs, implemented by modifying the Throttled scheduler within CloudAnalyst.

Evaluated under an identical six-region, multi-data-center configuration against Round Robin, ESCE, and standard Throttled, WTLB preserves the aggregate response-time, processing-time, and cost profile of …

Landmark-Based Localization Of The Ansa Cervicalis And Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve For Anastomotic Reinnervation: A Cadaveric Study, Jack Hyler, Janice Wang, Paige Johnson, Kyle Singerman, Jason Brown, Sara Sloan Jul 2026

Landmark-Based Localization Of The Ansa Cervicalis And Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve For Anastomotic Reinnervation: A Cadaveric Study, Jack Hyler, Janice Wang, Paige Johnson, Kyle Singerman, Jason Brown, Sara Sloan

Student Publications

Background/Objectives: Ansa-cervicalis-to-recurrent laryngeal nerve (ARA) anastomosis is an established reinnervation procedure for unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP). Successful surgery requires reliable identification of the ansa cervicalis motor entry point and the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) laryngeal entry point to facilitate tension-free anastomosis while avoiding neurovascular injury. Their positions relative to a single palpable external landmark have not been quantified. Methods: Thirty-two ansa cervicales and corresponding RLNs were dissected from 23 formalin-embalmed cadavers. Mediolateral and superoinferior distances from each nerve entry point to the inferior border of the thyroid cartilage at the midline laryngeal prominence were measured and combined into a …

Clinicopathologic Spectrum Of Renal Disease In Sars-Cov-2 Infection And Post-Covid-19 Vaccination, Naya Williams, Mohammed S. Razzaque Jul 2026

Clinicopathologic Spectrum Of Renal Disease In Sars-Cov-2 Infection And Post-Covid-19 Vaccination, Naya Williams, Mohammed S. Razzaque

School of Medicine Publications

Both SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 vaccination have been associated with renal complications. In the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection, kidney injury is primarily attributed to a complex interplay of systemic immune dysregulation and vascular damage. Severe infection triggers a cytokine-mediated inflammatory response characterized by elevated levels of pro-inflammatory mediators, resulting in systemic hemodynamic instability, increased capillary permeability, and renal hypoperfusion, ultimately leading to acute tubular injury. In addition, virus-induced endothelial activation promotes a prothrombotic state, microvascular injury, and further impairment of renal perfusion. Collectively, these processes converge to produce acute kidney injury (AKI) and, in severe or prolonged cases, may contribute …

The Mediating Role Of Moral Disengagement In The Relationship Between Facets Of Empathy And Aggression, Romiere J. Horace Jul 2026

The Mediating Role Of Moral Disengagement In The Relationship Between Facets Of Empathy And Aggression, Romiere J. Horace

Theses

Aggression is a major social and public health concern with economic, psychological, and interpersonal implications. Extensive research has examined the potential antecedents for aggressive behavior, with many different environmental, biological, and intrapsychic factors being significantly associated with aggression. Researchers have also focused on cognitive mechanisms, like empathy, as a protective factor for aggression. More specifically, research has linked lower levels of empathy to higher levels of aggression; however, the underlying mechanisms of this relationship remain underexplored. A potential explanatory mechanism is moral disengagement, which allows individuals to justify harmful behaviors and avoid self-sanctions. However, limited research has examined these constructs …

Tic-Related Functional Impairment Drives The Relationship Between Tics And Depression In Youth With Tourette Syndrome, Benjamin J Mitchell, Emily I Braley, Erika S Trent, Steve Barash, Mark F Gordon, Jordan Stiede, Eric A Storch Jul 2026

Tic-Related Functional Impairment Drives The Relationship Between Tics And Depression In Youth With Tourette Syndrome, Benjamin J Mitchell, Emily I Braley, Erika S Trent, Steve Barash, Mark F Gordon, Jordan Stiede, Eric A Storch

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Although many youth with Tourette syndrome (TS) have at least 1 comorbid psychiatric condition (eg, obsessive-compulsive disorder), the extent to which TS is associated with depression remains unclear. This cross-sectional study examined relationships among tic severity, tic-related functional impairment, and depressive symptoms in 277 youth with TS. Tic-related impairment, but not tic severity, was associated with both self- and parent-reported depressive symptoms. An age × sex interaction emerged, such that among younger participants, females reported higher depressive symptoms than males; however, this effect was observed only for self-report, not parent report. Additionally, both depressive symptoms and tic severity were associated …

The Dynamic Interplay Between Agency Costs And Whistleblowing: Evidence From West African Banks, Titilayo Moromoke Oladejo Dr. Jul 2026

The Dynamic Interplay Between Agency Costs And Whistleblowing: Evidence From West African Banks, Titilayo Moromoke Oladejo Dr.

Arab Economic and Business Journal

Agency issues have been a significant issue of governance in banks, particularly in the emerging economies where information asymmetry and ineffective monitoring mechanisms allow managerial opportunism. In West Africa, banking crises are common and are associated with excessive insider lending, ineffective board supervision and internal controls, which highlights the importance of more effective governance mechanisms. This paper examines the two-way relationship between the agency costs (AGC) and whistleblowing (WBH) in listed banks in Nigeria and Ghana. The analysis is based on panel data from 2017-2024 and a two-step System GMM, which adjusts the endogeneity and dynamic effects and estimates the …

Borderline Personality Disorder (Bpd) And Witness Memory: A Beginner’S Guide For Criminal Justice, Forensic Mental Health, And Legal Professionals, Jerrod Brown Ph.D., M.A., M.S., M.S., M.S.

Forensic Scholars Today

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is associated with emotional instability, impulsivity, interpersonal difficulties, identity disturbance, and stress-related dissociative symptoms that may influence cognitive functioning. Research suggests that BPD may contribute to difficulties with attention, executive functioning, and memory, particularly during periods of emotional distress. These issues, combined with common co-occurring conditions such as trauma exposure, substance use disorders, and sleep disturbances, may affect the encoding, storage, retrieval, and recall of information. This article examines current literature on BPD and discusses how symptoms and associated factors could influence witness memory in forensic and legal settings. Because findings remain mixed, the presence of …

A Charles Williams Diptych: G. M. Hopkins And T. S. Eliot, Eric Rauscher Jul 2026

A Charles Williams Diptych: G. M. Hopkins And T. S. Eliot, Eric Rauscher

Mythcon

This presentation consists of two short papers touching upon an interest of mine in the development of Williams' poetry.  In the first paper about Hopkins I argue for a direct influence that played a role in the transition from Williams' early poetry to his late Arthurian poems.  The second paper dealing with Eliot tangentially addresses a similar influence, but in a much more nuanced fashion. Here I am only offering hints. I am quite sure there are many other avenues of study for the transformation from his early poetry to his later mature style which is a poetically complex style …

Consumer Prioritization Of Revenue Generation Strategies In College Football Programs, Nels Popp, Chris Greenwell Jul 2026

Consumer Prioritization Of Revenue Generation Strategies In College Football Programs, Nels Popp, Chris Greenwell

Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics

Collegiate athletic departments face increasing financial pressures, making it vital to identify revenue generation strategies that align with fan preferences for sustainable growth. This study explores how various methods, including corporate logos on uniforms, increasing game-day costs, and accepting loans from private investors, are ranked by consumers in terms of their acceptability and potential impact on fan experience. Guided by prospect theory, we hypothesize fans prefer strategies seen as gains rather than losses and fan identification influences these preferences. Results from rank-ordered surveys of 7,110 respondents reveal that strategies enhancing program visibility without direct financial impact, such as corporate logos, …

A Pedagogical “Eras” Tour: Thirteen Years Of Evolving As A Writing Methods Instructor [Special Issue], Susanna Benko Jul 2026

A Pedagogical “Eras” Tour: Thirteen Years Of Evolving As A Writing Methods Instructor [Special Issue], Susanna Benko

Teaching/Writing: The Journal of Writing Teacher Education

ABSTRACT: This reflective essay uses Taylor Swift's Eras Tour as a conceptual framework for examining thirteen years of teaching a writing methods course for preservice teachers. Drawing on longitudinal reflection, I identify four distinct pedagogical eras in my practice, each representing shifts in how I conceptualize what preservice teachers need to learn about teaching writing and how clinical experiences shape that learning. Through this extended reflection, I argue that meaningful pedagogical change becomes visible only across time, not semester-to-semester. Key insights include the sustained centrality of writing practice in methods courses and the influence of institutional changes on course design. …

Teaching/Writing: The Journal of Writing Teacher Education

Writing workshop methods courses introduce teachers to foundational practices for teaching writing, yet their long-term influence on teacher identity and instructional decision-making often remains underexamined. This co-authored narrative explores how experiences within a graduate-level writing workshop shaped the pedagogical development of two educators: a professor who designed and facilitated the course and a former graduate student who went on to teach English Language Arts (ELA) in both elementary and higher education settings. Drawing on a 60-hour shadowing experience, the narrative analyzes classroom observations, reflective writing, and dialogic exchanges to illuminate three central themes: resonance, resilience, and effects that demonstrate how …

Strengthening Our Pedagogy Together: A Methods Instructor And Her Former Student Partner To Promote Agency In The Secondary Writing Classroom [Special Issue], Michael Rojas, Kate Sjostrom

Teaching/Writing: The Journal of Writing Teacher Education

In many English classrooms today, writing instruction is reduced to templates and formulas, robbing students of agency, voice, and transferable skills. This article describes a collaboration between a writing methods course instructor and one of her former students bent on proving that what they believe makes for solid writing instruction—a sometimes messy process involving choice and authentic purpose and audience—works. Documenting development of a new secondary writing course and a project to introduce the course’s methods to pre-service teachers, the authors recount barriers they encountered, strategies they developed for overcoming them, and issues they are still grappling with. In the …

This article highlights the benefits of such opportunities for preservice teacher-writers, as they (re)see themselves as active writers and reflect on their personal writing histories. Three preservice candidates share their writing as a means of celebrating their own beliefs and experiences …

From Prompts To Invitations: Rethinking The Genre Of The Writing Assignment Sheet, Amber Jensen, Annika Peacock Jul 2026

From Prompts To Invitations: Rethinking The Genre Of The Writing Assignment Sheet, Amber Jensen, Annika Peacock

Teaching/Writing: The Journal of Writing Teacher Education

In this article, a university-based teacher educator and a first-year middle school ELA teacher examine how their experiences in the writing methods course (as teacher and student) unsettled and expanded their thinking about assignment sheets and about themselves as teacher-writers. The course prompted questions about how ELA teachers might craft assignments that modeled rhetorically-relevant writing while also eliciting rhetorically-relevant writing from student-writers. The authors describe the genre inquiry they conducted that led to developing a heuristic for writing prompts as invitations that they have used to guide their own assignment sheet creation. Finally, they reflect briefly on how reframing this …

Optimizing Shopping Search Using Artificial Intelligence By Separating And Recombining Search Terms, Lois Wolf

Defensive Publications Series

An electronic search system and method process multi-dimensional shopping queries by executing a real-time union of multi-aspect parameters across multiple web domains. The system receives a user query specifying a product and multiple desired characteristics. Rather than relying on a static, pre-existing search index or database, a backend processing pipeline takes live uniform resource locators (URLs) generated from a primary parallel search. The system dynamically navigates to these specific product pages in real-time to extract and analyze unindexed user review data on the fly. By performing semantic keyword analysis across disparate vendor sites, the backend skill evaluates the intersection of …

Monetising Personal Data In Corporate Insolvency: A Legal Conflict Between The Ibc And The Dpdp Act, Yuvraj Singh, Akash Kumar Sahu

Indian Journal of Law and Technology

The increasing reliance of modern businesses on personal data has created novel legal challenges when data-intensive companies enter insolvency. Under Indian law, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 seeks to maximise the value of a corporate debtor’s assets for the benefit of creditors, while the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 as operationalised through the DPDP Rules, 2025, protects personal data through a rigorous consent-based framework grounded in the constitutional right to privacy recognised in Justice K.S. Puttaswamy (Retd.) v Union of India (2017). This paper examines whether personal data can be treated as an insolvency asset, and whether it …

Gig Workers' Identity Construction In Pakistan's Platform Economy, Zubair Ahmed Pirzada, Shoukat Ali Mahar, Muhammad Haneef Gambhir

Business Review

The rapid expansion of Pakistan’s platform economy has introduced digitally mediated labor arrangements that fundamentally restructure occupational identities and the meanings workers attach to their work. Based on constructivist grounded theory, this study delves into the process of gig workers' self-negotiated and self-built occupational identities in the gig economy in the city of Karachi in Pakistan. Through in-depth interviews with 43 platform workers in Karachi (25 ride-sharing drivers and 18 food delivery riders), the analysis produced the Adaptive Identity Construction Framework, theorizing identity construction as a simultaneous process across temporal, algorithmic, and sociocultural dimensions. Four types of identity were formed: …
