The Relationship Between Attitude Toward Suicide And Related Sociodemographic Factors That Influence The Use Of Mental Health Resources Among Undergraduate College Students: A Predictive Correlational Study, Floydena S. Smith
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this quantitative, predictive, correlational research study was to identify the relationship between attitude toward willingness to intervene against suicide scores and the linear combination of sex and age among undergraduate students. Higher education institutions must now determine if these sociodemographic variables prompted undergraduate college students to seek out interventions and use mental health services in case of suicide. The target undergraduate population included 93 full-time students between the ages of 18-45 from a postsecondary institution. A convenience sample was used to obtain 93 students, but only 80 participants in the study completed the survey in its entirety. …
The Effect Of An Educational Intervention On Pre-Licensure Nursing Students Using The Theory Of Cultural Humility, Margaret Curry
The Effect Of An Educational Intervention On Pre-Licensure Nursing Students Using The Theory Of Cultural Humility, Margaret Curry
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The American population has become more racially and ethnically diverse. Pre-licensure nursing students must have the knowledge, skill, and attitude to meet the needs of this diverse patient population. The purpose of this study was to educate pre-licensure nursing students on the concept of cultural humility using standardized patients from diverse cultural backgrounds in simulation experiences. The 27 students in this study were enrolled in a traditional nursing program in the southern U.S. This one-group quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design used Foronda’s Cultural Humility Scale. These students completed this scale (pretest), participated in simulation experiences with standardized patients from diverse cultural backgrounds, …
Enhancing Hypertension Management In Correctional Facilities: Educating Advanced Practice Providers On Effective Strategies, Kimbreya E. Otey
Enhancing Hypertension Management In Correctional Facilities: Educating Advanced Practice Providers On Effective Strategies, Kimbreya E. Otey
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Hypertension is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease and remains a significant public health concern, particularly within correctional facilities where access to consistent guideline-based care is often limited. Incarcerated individuals experience higher rates of chronic conditions, including hypertension, yet standardized approaches to management are frequently lacking. To address this gap, an evidence-based educational program was developed for nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) working in the correctional setting. Grounded in the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) guidelines, the program was developed to enhance awareness and knowledge among NPs and PAs regarding evidence-based hypertension management practices using the International …

African American females are drawn to pursue a military career for many reasons, including upholding a family tradition, securing funding for education, or simply due to the stability it offered in a challenging economic climate. This study depicted narratives of battlefield-induced psychological stress arising from the convergence of military culture intersectionality, posttraumatic stress, and the transition to civilian life. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the religious or spiritual coping of African American female veterans who experienced combat-related trauma in the military. The participants were interviewed at Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) and Veterans Bridge Home. …

Iowa Test Scores Before And After Covid-19 In Early Adolescents, Carmel F. W. Ontoy
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This paper addresses past research that examined the effects of COVID-19 on academics and presents a study further examining an area of academics before and after COVID-19. Research relating to COVID-19 has varied, studying correlations and effects on factors such as mental health and relationships. Researchers and educators projected various degrees of learning loss, and while some studies have revealed some loss, others have revealed little to no change. Further research is needed to continue developing researchers’ and educators’ understanding of how COVID-19 and the shift to online learning may have been related to learning and academics of young adolescents. …

Long-Term Psychological And Emotional Impacts On Survivors Of Child Sexual Abuse, Quanesha Lashay Johnson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) has lasting psychological and emotional effects, yet limited research directly compares long-term outcomes between CSA survivors. This study addressed that gap by examining adult survivors’ long-term depression levels, emotional wellbeing, and sexual wellbeing, focusing on how the relationship to the perpetrator may influence outcomes. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional design, the study employed three validated instruments: the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), BBC Subjective Wellbeing Scale (BBC-SWB), and the Natsal Sexual Wellbeing Measure. A total of 78 adults participated. Of these, 46 reported experiencing CSA by a family member or family friend, 17 experienced CSA by someone else …

Empowering Residents Through Relational Ministry: Implementing The Missional Resident Program At Creekside Community Village, Megan E. Yingst-Coats
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Individuals who are homeless have a reason beyond the stereotypes that might be assigned to them. Homelessness can be caused by mental illness, disability, loss of income, addiction, and many other reasons, but implementing a long-term program where homeless individuals can move in and be rehabilitated will decrease the number of homeless individuals that are in our country (Swenson, Miller, Herzberg & Ray, 2011). The purpose of the missional program at Creekside Community Village is to provide individualized care for residents and create a permanent solution for those experiencing chronic homelessness. The missional program will equip missional residents to walk …

Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) has emerged as the leading noninvasive imaging modality for the assessment of coronary artery disease (CAD), offering high-resolution visualization of the coronary anatomy and plaque characterization. The development of fractional flow reserve derived from CCTA (FFR-CT) has further transformed the diagnostic landscape by enabling the simultaneous evaluation of both anatomical stenosis and lesion-specific ischemia. FFR-CT has demonstrated diagnostic accuracy comparable to invasive FFR. The combined use of CCTA and FFR-CT is now pivotal in a broad range of clinical scenarios, including the evaluation of stable and acute chest pain, assessment of high-risk and complex plaque …

Background: Skeletal muscle area (MA) and muscle density (MD) are key determinants of physical function and typically decline with increasing age. Statins have well-known musculoskeletal effects but whether statins impact MA or MD is not well established, especially in the setting of randomized treatment.
Methods: REPRIEVE is a double-blind randomized trial evaluating the effect of pitavastatin for primary prevention of major adverse cardiovascular events in people with HIV (PWH). Thoracic paraspinal, pectoralis, and infraspinatus MA and MD were assessed among Mechanistic Substudy participants with CT at baseline and month 24.
Results: Of 804 substudy participants, 510 remained on study treatment …
