Approximately 3% of organ transplant recipients will be diagnosed with an invasive fungal infection (IFI), with 10%-47% being fatal. The source of IFI is typically not known, but Candida spp. cause the majority of IFI cases. We obtained intestines from two types of organ donors, brain-dead (BD) (n = 7) and donation after circulatory death (DCD) (n = 5), to sample microbes from the mucosal surface and the lumen. BD donors were parenterally fed and treated with corticosteroids in the days before procurement, whereas DCD donors were enterally fed and not given corticosteroids. We found fungi present in …

Naturally circulating strains of eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) bind heparan sulfate (HS) receptors and this interaction has been linked to neurovirulence. Previous studies associated EEEV-HS interactions with three positively charged amino acid clusters on the E2 glycoprotein. One of these sites has recently been reported to be critical for binding EEEV to the very-low-density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR), an EEEV receptor protein. The proteins apolipoprotein E receptor 2 (ApoER2) isoforms 1 and 2, and LDLR have also been shown to function as EEEV receptors. Herein, we investigate the individual contribution of each HS interaction site to EEEV HS- and protein …

Ribosomes are RNA-protein complexes essential for protein synthesis and quality control. Traditional methods for ribosome isolation are labor-intensive, expensive, and require a substantial amount of biological material. In contrast, our method, RNA affinity purification using poly-lysine (RAPPL), provides a rapid, simple, and cost-effective alternative applicable to various species and types of starting material (cell lysates, whole cells, organs, or whole organisms). It is also compatible with traditional isolation techniques. Here, we describe the use of RAPPL for rapid isolation, functional screening, and structural analysis of ribosomes and associated factors. We also demonstrate the application of RAPPL in investigating ribosome-associated resistance …

Analisis Dampak Putusan Etik Terhadap Keabsahan Putusan Lembaga Peradilan: Perbandingan Putusan Mahkamah Konstitusi Dan Putusan Badan Peradilan Dalam Lingkup Mahkamah Agung, Muhamad Sidiq

Jurnal Konstitusi & Demokrasi

Constitutionalism places the constitution as the supreme law that binds all state administrators, with the Constitutional Court (MK) as the guardian of the constitution through final and binding judicial review decisions. However, serious challenges have emerged regarding ethical violations by constitutional judges, such as in Decision No. 90/PUU-XXI/2023, which raises questions about the legitimacy and validity of the decision. This study employs a normative legal method with a doctrinal approach to analyze the applicability and impact of ethical rulings on MK decisions and compares them with ethical oversight and decision correction practices within the Supreme Court (MA). The findings indicate …

Asset And Deficit Thinking: Ed.D. Students’ Perceptions And Preferences Around Their Instructors’ Feedback, Rebecca R. Simataa, Jordan O'Connell, Kateri Johnson, Christopher Dufault Aug 2025

Asset And Deficit Thinking: Ed.D. Students’ Perceptions And Preferences Around Their Instructors’ Feedback, Rebecca R. Simataa, Jordan O'Connell, Kateri Johnson, Christopher Dufault

Essays in Education

This study investigated cohort-based Ed.D. students’ perceptions and preferences related to deficit and asset-based instructor feedback. The researchers collected data from 28 current Ed.D. students through a survey based on Henderson et al.'s (2016) Feedback for Learning questions. While students generally perceived feedback as asset-focused, they expressed a need for more growth-oriented, individualized responses. Additionally, male participants significantly perceived more asset-based feedback than females, suggesting that demographic alignment between instructors and students may influence perceptions around feedback. Implications suggest that Ed. D. faculty can enhance feedback practices by choosing transactional or transformative approaches based on students' needs and preferences, offering …

Pre-Service Teachers’ Development Of Four C Skills In Early Field Experiences Through Reflective Writing, Weihsuan Lo, Deborah Romero Aug 2025

Pre-Service Teachers’ Development Of Four C Skills In Early Field Experiences Through Reflective Writing, Weihsuan Lo, Deborah Romero

Journal of Educational Research and Innovation

This longitudinal trend research study (Creswell & Guetterman, 2019) investigates how pre-service teachers (PSTs) in a K-12 licensure program that includes a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) added endorsement develop the 4Cs (creative thinking, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration) through reflective writing during early field experiences. The study involved five PSTs who submitted three reflective journals during the 2020-2021 school year and nine PSTs who participated in an online virtual focus group. Compared to the 2019-2020 school year, where PSTs observed in-person classes, the shift to online learning in 2020-2021 resulted in maintained Analytic skills (M = 39.40) and increased …
