In November, 2022, the giant cryptocurrency exchange FTX filed for bankruptcy. The financial fallout from that event, including two bank failures, made crypto politically radioactive. Yet less than three years later, crypto, like Donald Trump himself, staged a triumphant Second Coming, as the President signed into law the so-called “GENIUS Act” – short for Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins. Analysts have traced the industry’s phoenix-like resurrection, showing how key crypto billionaires and companies aligned with Trump early in the 2024 campaign, transforming him from a skeptic into a political champion. But the flip side of the story …

Numerical modelling is important in many fluid dynamics applications, yet robust benchmarking is required to quantify uncertainty. This study presents results from a blind comparative benchmark of isothermal sloshing in a circular tank. Sloshing is relevant to many engineering applications, including offshore shipping, where vessel motions can excite internal fluid motion, generating impact loads and affecting stability. A series of horizontal and vertical excitation cases of increasing complexity are considered. Participant solutions for free surface displacements are compared against physical model data that was withheld until after submission. Across all cases, the numerical models generally capture the dominant frequency. Typical …

More Than Materials: Understanding The Emotional Labor Of Archivists And Donor Relations, April K. Anderson-Zorn

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

Though a crucial part of archives work, emotional labor and its effect on the profession are not well understood. From professional transitions, the loss of a residence, a health crisis, or the loss of a loved one, archivists who have limited experience in working with donors enduring a life crisis can themselves experience emotional trauma. Current archival literature on donor relations primarily focuses on the processes and procedures involved in working with donors to transfer materials. However, there is a notable lack of scholarship on the emotional labor involved in the donation process. The poster will focus on emerging literature …

Governance, Culture, And Law: The Expanding Scope Of Environmental Science And Sustainable Development Research, Ahyaudin Sodri, Herdis Herdiansyah

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Environmental science emerged as a discipline based on physical measurements, such as soil pollutant levels (Ailijiang et al., 2022), ecological restoration (Yue et al., 2026), city surface temperature (Shafizadeh-Moghadam et al., 2025), and microbial density in air samples (Hayleeyesus & Manaye, 2014). However, its objects of study increasingly extend beyond the confines of the laboratory. Questions that were once sufficiently answered with measurement data now require answers through draft laws, Constitutional Court decisions, financial reports of mining companies, and even traditional ritual discourses governing community access to forests. In other words, environmental …

Constitutionality Test: Judicial Review Of Mining License Prioritization For Religious Organizations In Indonesia, Qurrata Ayuni, Fitra Arsil

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

The enactment of Government Regulation No. 25/2024 has sparked constitutional debate in Indonesia. The regulation prioritizes Special Mining Business Permit Areas (Wilayah Izin Usaha Pertambangan Khusus, WIUPK) for religious organizations, raising critical questions about distributive justice and democratic resource governance under Article 33(3) of the 1945 Constitution. This study examines the constitutionality of this policy by asking whether the prioritization of WIUPK for religious organizations, as reviewed in Constitutional Court Decision No. 77/PUU-XXII/2024, violates Article 33(3) of the 1945 Constitution and what implications this holds for Indonesia's natural resource management paradigms and constitutional interpretation. Using doctrinal legal research, …

Model-Free Sliding Mode Control On Dc Motor Modules Using Coulomb Friction Simulation, Donovan Barros Jul 2026

Model-Free Sliding Mode Control On Dc Motor Modules Using Coulomb Friction Simulation, Donovan Barros

Theses

Classical control methods such as PID control are effective for simple systems where the system model is well-known and tuning can be completed without significant time and financial investment. However, systems in the modern world have become more intricate and complicated to model, which also results in more extensive tuning being required to develop effective controllers. Sliding Mode Control was developed as a more robust way to handle nonlinear systems while ensuring global asymptotic stability using Lyapunov’s stability theorem. Traditional Sliding Mode Control does still require a well-known system model, necessitating the development of a new control method. Model-Free Sliding …

Intermembrane Coupling Between Bcl-Xl And The Ip3 Receptor Supports Local Ca2+ Transfer At Er-Mitochondrial Contacts, Arijita Ghosh, David Weaver, Chi Li, György Hajnóczky

Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology Faculty Papers

Bcl-xL, an anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family protein, engages laterally with Bak/Bax in the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM) to inhibit apoptosis and interacts with the IP3 receptor Ca2+ channels (IP3Rs) in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane to control Ca2+ release. It is unknown if OMM-localized Bcl-xL can also interact in trans with IP3Rs at ER-mitochondrial contacts to form a tethering complex that supports IP3R-mediated local Ca2+ transfer from ER to mitochondria. We establish that IP3R-mitochondria Ca2+ signal propagation depends on Bcl-xL. By targeting Bcl-xL specifically to different subcellular compartments, we find that OMM-localized Bcl-xL increases the efficacy …

Who’S To Blame? The Politics Of Recognition In Ayta Land Claims Under Ipra, John Albert R. Dela Rosa

Social Sciences and Development Review

With the enactment of the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA) in 1997, the Philippines became one of the first Asian countries to legally recognize and protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Yet many Indigenous communities continue to struggle to realize the very promises that the law was intended to fulfill. This paper therefore examines how IPRA has shaped—and continues to shape—the Ayta’s efforts to assert ownership and control over their ancestral domain. Drawing on multi-sited ethnography conducted in selected Ayta communities, the study reveals that IPRA remains a paradox. While it has heightened the Ayta’s awareness of their rights and …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and multipotent progenitors (MPPs) are sustained by networks of transcription factors and epigenetic regulators that prime lineage-specific programs yet maintain multipotency. Two epigenetic regulators, MLL3 and MLL4, play important but distinct roles in maintaining this balance. MLL3 promotes HSC differentiation, whereas MLL4 opposes differentiation. These activities are essential for both normal homeostasis and leukemia suppression, yet it is not clear how MLL3 and MLL4 regulate HSC and MPP gene expression to control HSC/MPP fate decisions. To resolve these mechanisms, we performed an extensive series of single-cell genomic studies after conditionally deleting Mll3, Mll4 or both genes …
