A Content Analysis Of Pronunciation And Spelling Activities In Action Pack Ten, Sana’ Al-Smadi, Ruba Bataineh, Mohammad Al-Hawamdeh

Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series

Pronunciation and spelling are crucial skills for any intelligible form of spoken or written communication. Both serve as important indicators—among others—that determine the quality of speech or writing. However, EFL learners often face challenges with these fundamental skills during real-life communication. This content analysis aims to examine whether pronunciation and spelling are adequately covered in the Student Book and Activity Book, the extent to which these activities are emphasized, and their focus within Action Pack 10. To achieve these objectives, a mixed-methods approach was employed, including the development of four content analysis sheets. Frequencies and percentages were used for analysis, …

A Travel Ban Is Nothing New: Moral Panic, Moral Entrepreneurs, And Immigration Policy, William F. Danaher, Debaleena Ghosh Sep 2025

A Travel Ban Is Nothing New: Moral Panic, Moral Entrepreneurs, And Immigration Policy, William F. Danaher, Debaleena Ghosh

The Journal of Public and Professional Sociology

The U.S. travel ban on Muslims was part of a historical pattern to curb immigration. In this paper, we take a historical-comparative approach to analyze two cases: The Chinese Exclusion Act and the Muslim Ban. We show how moral panics fueled by moral entrepreneurs led to immigration policies banning both groups and how historical events were important in the process. In the Chinese case, cultural stereotypes and competition with other immigrant groups led to the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. In the Muslim case, 9/11 led moral entrepreneurs to associate all Muslims with terrorism, setting the stage for moral panic and …

Toward A Unified Neuroaesthetic Framework For Art-Based Interventions In Substance Use Recovery - A Review, Piper Hutson, James Hutson

Faculty Scholarship

Art-based interventions have gained increasing recognition as complementary strategies for substance use disorder (SUD) recovery and prevention, yet the field remains fragmented across clinical art therapy, community-based programs, and expressive digital practices. This article advances a unified neuroaesthetic framework that integrates sensory regulation, narrative integration, and interpersonal synchronization as the core mechanisms of healing. Drawing on recent U.S.-based empirical studies (post-2020), the paper synthesizes evidence from multiple modalities, including visual arts, music therapy, dance/movement practices, and digital storytelling, each demonstrating measurable effects on craving reduction, stress regulation, identity reconstruction, and social connection. Neuroscientific insights are central: findings highlight how creative …

Learning In Virtual Environments With Varying Levels Of Sensory Information, Maryam Derayati Far Sep 2025

Learning In Virtual Environments With Varying Levels Of Sensory Information, Maryam Derayati Far

Psychology Theses and Dissertations

The sensory environment plays a critical role in shaping learners’ attention, engagement, and retention. This thesis investigates how varying levels of sensory input in virtual reality (VR) classrooms influence learning for two age groups—children and young adults—and explores how individual differences in sensory processing moderate these effects. Using immersive VR technology to simulate classroom settings, two experimental studies were conducted. Study One involved 60 children aged 6–15 years, recruited primarily through a university-run summer camp. Study Two included 57 undergraduate students aged 18–36 years, recruited through a research participation pool. In both studies, participants were randomly assigned to either a …

Risk Allocation Model For Price Escalations In Construction Projects: Integrating Bargaining Game Theory And Probabilistic Bayesian Modeling, Yasser Jezzini, Rayan H. Assaad, Islam H. El-Adaway Sep 2025

Risk Allocation Model For Price Escalations In Construction Projects: Integrating Bargaining Game Theory And Probabilistic Bayesian Modeling, Yasser Jezzini, Rayan H. Assaad, Islam H. El-Adaway

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Economic market uncertainties, like those witnessed during pandemics and supply chain-related challenges, introduce complexity in ascertaining precise price estimates for construction materials. Despite some studies on risk allocation in construction projects utilizing quantitative and qualitative approaches, these studies fail to explain the underlying process of risk allocation due to a lack of theoretical support, indicating a need for a more structured and theoretically grounded approach to understanding risk allocation, specifically under volatile market conditions. To bridge this knowledge gap, this study proposes a novel game-theoretical model integrating Bayesian statistics and bargaining game theory dynamics, offering a robust framework for optimal …

Post-Finasteride Syndrome: Medically Unexplained, Stewart Justman Sep 2025

Post-Finasteride Syndrome: Medically Unexplained, Stewart Justman

Global Humanities and Religions Faculty Publications

Post-Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) is a controversial illness associated with a host of distressing symptoms—most notably sexual dysfunctions—reported to persist long beyond the intake of finasteride itself. It appears the PFS population consists exclusively of younger patients with alopecia, even though millions take a higher (if pharmacologically similar) dosage of finasteride for benign prostatic hyperplasia. This dichotomy is not what one would expect to observe if finasteride caused PFS. No medical explanation of this one-sided syndrome exists. The surge of cases of PFS following a publicity spike in 2011 and 2012 suggests that PFS owes much nonbiological factors. The present analysis …

Gaming As Therapeutic Modality For Military Veterans: Evidence, Mechanisms, And Program Design, Piper Hutson, James Hutson

Faculty Scholarship

This study synthesizes interdisciplinary evidence on game-based interventions for military veterans, mapping neurological mechanisms to clinically relevant outcomes while outlining design principles for community programs that leverage interactive media. The review characterizes how structured gameplay supports emotional regulation through attentional control, predictable feedback schedules, and reward-mediated learning that elevates motivation and mood; links to dopaminergic signaling and reduced rumination suggest plausible pathways for affective stabilization. Executive functions receive targeted engagement via strategy, puzzle, and action mechanics that demand working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibition, and rapid decision-making, providing ecologically valid practice with measurable transfer to daily functioning. Social architectures in multiplayer …

Teaching Information Literacy In The Emerging And Dynamic Fields Of Preparedness And Security, Abigail Adams Sep 2025

Teaching Information Literacy In The Emerging And Dynamic Fields Of Preparedness And Security, Abigail Adams

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

Emergency preparedness and security are comparatively new academic fields, but they have grown tremendously in the last ten years.1 Colleges and universities all over the United States and Canada are adding and expanding programs dedicated to various facets of these subjects. While the specific subtopics and focal areas can vary by program, they all explore threat assessment, risk management, and disaster mitigation in some capacity. Emergency preparedness or emergency management programs prepare students to pursue careers dealing with crisis mitigation and response, whether that crisis is a result of natural disaster, climate change, war, civil unrest, infrastructure failure, economic instability, …

Leveraging The Federal Trust Responsibility To Safeguard Net Neutrality On Tribal Lands, Morgan O. Schaack Sep 2025

Leveraging The Federal Trust Responsibility To Safeguard Net Neutrality On Tribal Lands, Morgan O. Schaack

University of Chicago Law Review

The internet plays a crucial role in modern life, but equal access to it is not guaranteed. This inequality is only starker since the recent overruling of the Chevron doctrine that afforded agencies deference in their interpretation of statutes and the second Trump administration’s hostility toward net neutrality––a policy that prevents internet service providers from charging more money for access to faster internet while slowing other users’ access. For those living on tribal lands, rescission of net neutrality policies has unique implications due to the federal government’s trust responsibility to American Indians.

The trust responsibility is a long-standing and deeply …
