Assessment Of Radiological Risk Hazard Indices For Diverse Environmental And Biological Samples: A Comprehensive Review, Israa K. Ahmed, Sabah S. Farhan, Jamal M. Rzaij

Al-Bahir

Radiological risk assessment is pivotal for safeguarding human health and ecosystems amid expanding radiation applications in technology and medicine. This review systematically evaluates the efficacy of hazard indices like the Annual Effective Dose Equivalent (AEDE) and Excess Lifetime Cancer Risk (ELCR) across environmental (soil, water) and biological (tissues, crops) samples, addressing critical gaps in comparative methodologies, a PRISMA-guided systematic. Literature review was conducted across Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science, analyzing more than 100 peer-reviewed studies (2010–2024) that met the inclusion criteria: English-language publications, multi-index comparisons, and empirical validations. Exclusion criteria removed non-peer-reviewed works and studies focusing on a single …

Reforming Environmental Governance In Response To Indonesia’S Nickel Industrial Policy: A Critical Assessment Of Sustainability Challenges, Farah Rosada

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

This study evaluates the effectiveness of Indonesia’s environmental policy reforms in the nickel sector as a response to global criticism regarding ecocidal practices. Indonesia's nickel industry plays a crucial role in the global supply chain, especially in meeting the demand for electric vehicles. However, the ecological impacts of this industry have drawn international scrutiny, particularly from environmental organisations highlighting extensive ecosystem damage. Using environmental security theory, this study focuses on evaluating policy reforms, such as the revision of Environmental Impact Assessments (AMDAL) and the regulation of hazardous and toxic waste (B3), as well as their impacts on ecosystem sustainability and …

The Spread Of China’S Cultural Soft Power Through The Chinese New Year Festival In Pontianak, Kevin Thedeus, Nuraeni Nuraeni Sep 2025

The Spread Of China’S Cultural Soft Power Through The Chinese New Year Festival In Pontianak, Kevin Thedeus, Nuraeni Nuraeni

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration is one of the biggest celebrations for the Chinese Indonesians in Pontianak. This celebration allows the Chinese ethnic groups to remember and maintain their traditional roots while living in the host country. However, the high interest from non-Chinese Indonesians in visiting and participating in the CNY celebration raises questions about whether this diasporic activity unintentionally strengthens the favourability of the Indonesian people towards China and is used as a means of China's soft power. This study will discuss the spread of culture from the CNY Festival in Pontianak, which can serve as an instrument of …

The Political Framing Of The 2024 China-Indonesia Joint Statement, Mahbi Maulaya Sep 2025

The Political Framing Of The 2024 China-Indonesia Joint Statement, Mahbi Maulaya

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

Political leaders always carefully choose what to say and how to state it, as all words count for influencing the public, explicitly or implicitly. Eventually, the ideas framed in a political statement are best understood contextually rather than merely textually. After Prabowo Subianto, the president of Indonesia, visited China in November 2024, both countries released a controversial joint statement. This article aims to analyse the political frames observable in the 2024 China-Indonesia joint statement with a discourse analysis method. The article found five political frames in the statement: 1) Indonesia agrees to China’s vision of global order; 2) China has …

The Dynamics Of Implementing International Norms On The Elimination Of Sexual Violence In Indonesia, Muhammad Iqbal Yunazwardi, Erina Ikawati

Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

This study analyses the dynamics of the implementation of international norms regarding the elimination of sexual violence in Indonesia, with a focus on the influence of narrative contestation on the protection of victims. Although Indonesia has ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), implementing these norms at the domestic level still faces various challenges. The ratification of the Sexual Violence Crime Law (TPKS Law) marks a significant milestone in the protection of victims. Still, its effectiveness is doubtful due to resistance from domestic actors and political interests that shape the public will. Through …

Introduction To Special Issue On Unjust “Permission Structures” In/As Technical Communication, R. J. Lambert, Randall W. Monty, Kymberly O. Morquecho, Sarah Warren-Riley

Writing and Language Studies Faculty Publications

The term “permission structure” has been popularized to describe a specific rhetorical strategy whereby communicators use the audience's existing beliefs and values to persuade them to change their original positions and/or take actions they otherwise would not. Even in its popular uses, permission structuring may be usefully understood as a form of technical communication by which audiences are strategically persuaded to accept or reject complex policy, scientific, and legal topics. However, scholars must resist popular jargon outpacing and superseding the use of technical concepts and critical discourse. Taken together, the seven articles in this special issue potentiate multiple critical, pedagogical, …

Academic Dispositions Of Undergraduate Students: A Comparison Of Students With And Without Learning Disabilities, Gabriel Jones Sep 2025

Academic Dispositions Of Undergraduate Students: A Comparison Of Students With And Without Learning Disabilities, Gabriel Jones

McNair Scholars Research

Students with learning disabilities face complex emotional, psychological, and academic challenges, though prior research presents mixed findings. Some studies highlight negative outcomes, such as heightened shame, emotional distress, and diminished self-efficacy. In contrast, others identify positive traits, including resilience, higher achievement drive, and reduced stress compared to peers without learning disabilities (LDs). The present study aimed to clarify these inconsistencies by employing a mixed methods design to examine differences between undergraduate students with and without learning disabilities. Specifically, the study assessed shame-proneness, self-efficacy, hope, motivation style, and attribution style, while also exploring linguistic patterns through narrative analysis using the Linguistic …

Trajectories Of Recovery After Intravenous Propofol Versus Inhaled Volatile Anaesthesia (Thrive) Randomised Controlled Trial In The Usa: A Protocol, Bethany R Tellor Pennington, Laura Swisher, Mara L Bollini, Michael S Avidan, Et Al.

2020-Current year OA Pubs

INTRODUCTION: Millions of patients receive general anaesthesia every year with either propofol total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) or inhaled volatile anaesthesia (INVA). It is currently unknown which of these techniques is superior in relation to patient experience, safety and clinical outcomes. The primary aims of this trial are to determine (1) whether patients undergoing (a) major inpatient surgery, (b) minor inpatient surgery or (c) outpatient surgery have a superior quality of recovery after INVA or TIVA and (2) whether TIVA confers no more than a small (0.2%) increased risk of definite intraoperative awareness than INVA.

METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This protocol was …

Pertussis In Infancy: A Case Of Delayed Diagnosis, Ana Hernandez-Puga Sep 2025

Pertussis In Infancy: A Case Of Delayed Diagnosis, Ana Hernandez-Puga

All Publications

Bordetella pertussis is a gram-negative bacterium that primarily infects the respiratory tract. We report the case of a 13-month-old male patient who developed pertussis. At the initial clinic presentation, the diagnosis was not immediately considered, as the early manifestations closely mimicked those of a viral upper respiratory infection. As the illness progressed, the classic paroxysmal cough with inspiratory "whoop" became apparent, prompting the correct diagnosis. At that time, a nasopharyngeal swab was obtained, which tested positive for Bordetella pertussis by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The patient was prescribed a five-day course of azithromycin, and close contacts were given prophylactic treatment. …

Road Performance Evaluation Of Preventive Maintenance Techniques For Asphalt Pavements, Fansheng Kong, Yalong Li, Ruilin Wang, Xing Hu, Miao Yu, Dongzhao Jin

Michigan Tech Publications

Preventive maintenance treatments are widely applied to asphalt pavements to mitigate deterioration and extend service life. This study evaluated four common technologies: a high-elasticity ultra-thin overlay, an Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)-10 thin overlay, micro-surfacing (MS-III), and a chip seal. Laboratory testing focused on skid resistance, surface texture, and low-temperature cracking resistance. Skid resistance was measured with a tire–pavement dynamic friction analyzer under controlled load and speed, while surface macrotexture was assessed using a laser scanner. Low-temperature cracking resistance was determined through three-point bending beam tests at −10 °C. The results showed that chip seal achieved the highest initial friction and …
