Individual Open Access Articles
Proper hand hygiene is crucial for preventing,, infections in intensive care units (ICUs) and neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Despite the awareness among healthcare personnel and visitors of its importance, compliance with regulations is often inadequate. Advanced nurse educators and infection control professionals can significantly improve these habits. This review investigates whether advanced nursing positions improve hand hygiene among ICU and NICU families, as well as visitors, focusing on enhancing hand hygiene programs, identifying effective solutions, recognising practice shortcomings, and providing recommendations. The methodology involved a search of databases, including PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Google Scholar, using relevant keywords related …

Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is the primary input of new reactive nitrogen to natural terrestrial ecosystems. However, this flux is poorly constrained due to its unclear drivers and associated control mechanisms. Here, we extend the existing theory of nitrogen (N) isotope mass balance to estimate BNF rates and then use a Bayesian approach to constrain the BNF rates in natural terrestrial ecosystems by using measurements of natural N-isotope ratios (δ15N) in plants (δP) and soil (δS). Together with pairwise δP and δS measurements from 18 forest sites covering diverse climates and thousands …

A New Scheme For Simple Asymmetric Bivariate Copulas And Applications, Rachid Bentoumi, Farid El Ktaibi, Christophe Chesneau
All Works
Bivariate copulas play a central role in modeling the dependence structure between two random variables and serve as a fundamental tool in various applied fields. In this article, we develop a new theoretical framework aimed at constructing simple asymmetric bivariate copulas of the form C(u, v) = uv [ϕ(v) + u(1 − ϕ(v))], (u, v) ∈ [0, 1]2. This framework relies on a tuning univariate function to achieve the desired asymmetry. We study this pioneering scheme, emphasizing its theoretical foundations, and illustrating it with several examples. More precisely, we establish important properties of the proposed copulas …

Meta Transfer Learning For Brain Tumor Segmentation Using Nnunet In Meningioma And Metastasis Cases, Mehnaz Tabassum, Antonio Di Ieva, Sidong Liu
Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai
In recent years, numerous algorithms have emerged for the segmentation of brain tumors, driven by advancements in deep learning techniques, where the objective is to identify and delineate various tumor sub-regions. While deep learning models like nnUNet have shown promising results in glioma segmentation, their effectiveness in segmenting other brain tumor subtypes, such as meningiomas and metastases, remains uncertain, especially when the available dataset lacks representative examples. To address this challenge, we propose a meta-transfer learning approach, which involves fine-tuning the nnUNet model on datasets containing meningiomas and metastases while leveraging the knowledge acquired from glioma segmentation. This approach aims …

Modeling Nutrient Functions: Strengthening The Reliability And Applicability Of Ecosystem Service Models For Land Use Decision-Making, Mariam Gabriela Valladares Castellanos
Modeling Nutrient Functions: Strengthening The Reliability And Applicability Of Ecosystem Service Models For Land Use Decision-Making, Mariam Gabriela Valladares Castellanos
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Effective water quality management requires a clear understanding of both the magnitude and spatial distribution of nutrient retention and export across dynamic landscapes, given their direct implications for drinking water supply, ecosystem integrity, fisheries, and recreational uses. Equally important is anticipating trade-offs from management actions, which can alter ecosystem functioning and the flow of services. Modeling tools provide a means to predict nutrient outcomes, evaluate these trade-offs, and support decision-making; however, their utility is often constrained by persistent challenges, including model uncertainty, limited applicability in data-scarce regions, and insufficient empirical foundations to inform scenario-driven decision-making. This dissertation addresses these gaps …

Formation And Dramatic Significance Of The “Separation” System In Ming Dynasty Southern Opera Scripts, Zhiyong Chen
Formation And Dramatic Significance Of The “Separation” System In Ming Dynasty Southern Opera Scripts, Zhiyong Chen
Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art
The practice of “fenchu” (separation) marks a pivotal development in the Ming dynasty's chuanqi playwriting system, manifesting as either “implicit” or “explicit” separation within early Southern Opera texts. The late Ming period saw enhancements in the separation methodologies within actors' performance manuscripts and reader-oriented printed editions, improving upon the character entry and exit strategies from the Song, Yuan, and early Ming operas. This led to the formulation of separation standards that reconcile character transitions, scene consistency, and narrative cohesion. The emergence of the separation mechanism in Southern Opera is attributed to multifaceted causes: for performance scripts, it facilitated …

The Movement For The Popularization Of Literature And Art: Development And Transformation, Yanqiu Zhao
Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art
The major issues and fundamental perspectives concerning the popularization of literature and art can be broadly categorized into six aspects: the direction of development, the object of service, the subject of creation, the content and form, the language, and the evaluation of the May Fourth and New Culture Movements. While the theory and practice of the popularizing literature and art hold positive significance, they are also subject to biases and limitations. Mao Zedong, rather than merely perpetuating the ideals and objectives of the movement, deconstructed, synthesized and reformed its content and issues. He proposed his own insights and solutions to …
