Effective Strategies To Integrate Social Media Influencers In Marketing Frameworks, Vanessa R. Alexander
Effective Strategies To Integrate Social Media Influencers In Marketing Frameworks, Vanessa R. Alexander
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Social media dominates modern marketing, yet many retail businesses struggle to integrate social media influence into their business marketing frameworks. This problem is important to retail marketing leaders because unsuccessful integration influence can weaken brand credibility and reduce revenue. Grounded in Cialdini’s theory of social influence and the electronic word-of-mouth model, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to identify and explore effective strategies that retail industry marketing leaders on the East Coast of the United States used to integrate social media influencers. The participants were eight retail industry marketing leaders on the East Coast of the United States. …
Special Education Teachers’ Perceptions Of Teaching Effectiveness When Working With Students With Emotional And Behavioral Disorders, Ernest J. Fruge
Special Education Teachers’ Perceptions Of Teaching Effectiveness When Working With Students With Emotional And Behavioral Disorders, Ernest J. Fruge
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This qualitative study examined how special education teachers perceived their teaching effectiveness in supporting students identified with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). The study addressed a gap in the literature by examining the factors that influence special educators’ sense of self-efficacy when working with this population. Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy served as the conceptual framework. A generic qualitative research design was employed, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight participants from two central Texas school districts. Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis guided the coding and interpretation process, supported by MAXQDA software. Analysis of the data revealed seven key …

This study investigates the relationship between ESG-linked executive compensation and ESG decoupling and examines the moderating role of CSR committees in this association. Using a global dataset of 36,055 firm-year observations across 40 countries and 32 industries from 2005 to 2023, we find that ESG-linked executive compensation is associated with a significant reduction in ESG decoupling, thereby strengthening the alignment between ESG disclosure and actual practices. The presence of a CSR committee further enhances this effect, with the interaction between ESG-linked compensation and CSR committees leading to a more pronounced reduction in decoupling. Robustness tests using propensity score matching, instrumental …

Digital Quality Measure Of Potentially Avoidable Emergency Presentations Among Patients With Colorectal Cancer, Natalia Khalaf, Basim Ali, Andrew Zimolzak, Yan Liu, Li Wei, Fasiha Kanwal, Hardeep Singh
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
Background: We previously developed a digital quality measure (dQM) of emergency presentations (EPs) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and found it to be associated with worse outcomes. Potentially avoidable EPs were common in this cohort, but identifying them required time-intensive chart reviews. We aimed to enhance the existing dQM to automate the detection of potentially avoidable EPs.
Materials and methods: We defined potentially avoidable EPs as those preceded by a CRC red flag (iron-deficiency anaemia or haematochezia ≥60 days prior, or positive stool-based screening test ≥180 days prior). The enhanced dQM was applied to a national cohort of incident CRC cases …
The Implications Of Pulsifer V. United States For The Interpretation Of Criminal Statutes, Aparajita (Pj) Das
The Implications Of Pulsifer V. United States For The Interpretation Of Criminal Statutes, Aparajita (Pj) Das
San Diego Law Review
All signs in Pulsifer point to considerable discretion for courts, all while operating within the confines of statutory text. For one, the opinion indicates that courts can override the text of a statute if the context so demands. The Court’s rejection of lenity also confirms this trend in two ways. It highlights the Court’s inconsistent approach when it comes to requiring the legislature to speak clearly. It also confirms that the threshold of ambiguity required to trigger lenity continues to be a high one, thus allowing judges to selectively apply the canon, even when a split in the Court demonstrates …

Scrolling Into Risk: Navigating The Legal Landscape Of Social Media Influencers And Securities Promotion Under Section 12(A)(2) Of The Securities Act, Nathan T. Nguyen
San Diego Law Review
This Comment argues that the Supreme Court should clarify the definition of a “person who offers or sells” under Section 12(a)(2) of the Securities Act to resolve the disagreement among the circuit courts. Part II outlines the legal context of the Securities Act, examining efforts to safeguard investors from the illicit sale of unregistered securities. Part III delves into disagreements among circuit courts regarding the definition of a “seller” in today’s social media landscape. Part IV asserts that classifying social media influencers as sellers aligns with the Securities Act’s legislative intent and statutory language. Part V contends that the Ninth …
Misapplying Pinkerton And Accomplice Liability In The United States Federal Sentencing Guidelines: How Courts Have Wrongly Imprisoned Criminal Defendants For Decades, Jessica Huang
San Diego Law Review
The Pinkerton and accomplice-liability doctrines are two of the most maligned doctrines in criminal law. Anyone deemed an “accomplice” to a crime can be convicted of that crime as if they had perpetrated the wrongdoing themselves; similarly, Pinkerton liability, a form of conspiracy liability, permits the government to hold someone accountable for the substantive crimes of another so long as those crimes were “in furtherance of the conspiracy,” “within the scope of the unlawful project,” and reasonably foreseeable “as a necessary or natural consequence of the unlawful agreement.” Scholars, activists, and reformers have criticized the doctrines on both constitutional and …

Individuals’ Experiences Of Care Partner Involvement In Heart Disease Management: A Pilot Study, Elizabeth Richards
Individuals’ Experiences Of Care Partner Involvement In Heart Disease Management: A Pilot Study, Elizabeth Richards
School of Nursing Faculty Publications
Introduction: Heart disease impacts both those diagnosed and their families, often due to lifestyle modifications that can alter family dynamics. While existing literature focuses on men and married individuals, understanding care partner involvement for both men and women independent of marital status is important, given gender disparities in heart disease experiences, caregiving roles, and widowhood rates. We explored differences in characteristics of men and women with heart disease, with and without a care partner. Additionally, we explored involvement of care partner beyond spousal relationships. We further examined gender differences in these experiences. Method: Cross-sectional Prolific survey pilot data of persons …
Rogue Prosecutor Panic, Michael L. Smith
Rogue Prosecutor Panic, Michael L. Smith
The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice
Discussions of criminal law, enforcement, and reform are frequently messy and misleading. Anecdotes distract from systematic abuse, and perceptions of crime frequently win out over existing trends. This essay identifies Zack Smith and Charles Stimson’s book, Rogue Prosecutors: How Radical Soros Lawyers are Destroying America’s Communities, as an example of this shoddy discourse. Smith and Stimson’s claim that “Radical Soros Lawyers” are being mobilized to destructive ends crumbles under minimal scrutiny, and I identify several core defects throughout their narrative, including a failure to demonstrate a truly unified scheme of ideology and funding amongst the prosecutors they identify, baseless assumptions …
Designing Invisibility: How Hostile Architecture Impacts People Living With Disabilities, Priscilla A. Okolie
Designing Invisibility: How Hostile Architecture Impacts People Living With Disabilities, Priscilla A. Okolie
The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice
This comment discusses the potentially unethical and unlawful nature of hostile architecture. This comment posits that hostile architecture is inherently illegal by way of implicitly and overtly violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. This comment argues that hostile architecture violates the ADA because it potentially discriminates against people living with disabilities by hindering their ability to utilize both public and private facilities such as bus stops. This comment acknowledges that while hostile architecture is often used as a tool to discourage unhoused people from using such facilities, hostile architecture also potentially discriminates against people living with disabilities. This comment highlights …

The History Behind The Enactment Of Public Law 115-126 And Whether Safesport Has Created A Safe Place For Competitive Athletes, Ashtyn L. Stevens
The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice
The Summer Olympic Games unite the world in celebrating athletic excellence, yet behind the global spectacle lies a troubling reality: the pervasive issue of sexual abuse within competitive sports. The high-profile case of former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who sexually assaulted hundreds of athletes over decades, including Olympic champions Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas, exposed systemic failures in reporting and accountability. This comment analyzes the legal and institutional response to such abuse, focusing on the enactment of Public Law 115-126 in 2018. Designed to protect minors and amateur athletes, the law mandates timely reporting of sexual abuse to law …
Tinkering With The Machinery Of Death: Execution Through Nitrogen Hypoxia, Emiliano Villarreal
Tinkering With The Machinery Of Death: Execution Through Nitrogen Hypoxia, Emiliano Villarreal
The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice
The modern era of the death penalty in the United States began in 1976 when the Supreme Court reinstituted the death penalty just four years after having found it to be unconstitutional. Since then, various states, as well as the federal government, have experimented with different methods of execution to find the most “humane” way of carrying out an execution. In 2018, Alabama legalized the use of nitrogen hypoxia as a method of execution, and in 2024, became the first state to execute a person with this new, previously untested method. However, the use of nitrogen hypoxia has been the …

Strategies To Prevent Employee Turnover And Revenue Losses Resulting From Workplace Bullying, Sylvester Doby Jr
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Workplace bullying is a serious issue that can lead to high employee turnover and significant revenue loss. To maintain a healthy work environment and support their employees, business leaders need to develop and implement effective strategies to prevent bullying. Grounded in the transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry study was to identify and explore the successful strategies that U.S. business leaders used to prevent workplace bullying. Six business leaders who have successfully implemented strategies to combat workplace bullying were purposively recruited and interviewed using semistructured interviews. The reflexive six-step thematic analysis of the interview transcripts and …
Experiences Of Medically Discharged Veterans Who Transitioned Without A Medically-Oriented Transition Program, Roschelle J. Brown
Experiences Of Medically Discharged Veterans Who Transitioned Without A Medically-Oriented Transition Program, Roschelle J. Brown
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
All discharged service members are required to attend a Transition Assistance Program (TAP). Service members who are found medically unfit to serve must attend TAP prior to being discharged by a Medical Evaluation Board (MEB). This qualitative research study examined the experiences of disabled veterans who were medically discharged with only the general transition program. The problem that was addressed was the lack of information about the experiences of medically discharged service members and the unique challenges that disabled veterans continue to experience because of it. The purpose of this study was to understand the experiences of medically discharged veterans …

Purpose: Retrospective chart reviews in ophthalmology are essential for gaining clinical insights, but they remain labor-intensive and prone to error. Despite digitization through electronic health records, extracting and interpreting lengthy, unstructured patient histories remains challenging, particularly in ophthalmology, which relies heavily on both imaging and text-based reports. We introduce OphthoACR, a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tool for automated chart review and cohort analyses in ophthalmology. Methods: OphthoACR was applied to extract 16 variables of increasing task difficulty from the complete chart histories of 91 patients who underwent secondary intraocular lens surgery at the Columbia University …

Rethinking Wireless Microphone Fidelity: Evidence, Outcomes, And Implications, John Trevino
Theatre Faculty Publications
This paper challenges long-standing assumptions about tradeo↵s between duplexing and microphone fidelity in consumer wireless audio systems. Through controlled experiments and comparative evaluations on modern consumer hardware, we demonstrate that (1) measurable improvements in recorded microphone fidelity are achievable in real-world scenarios previously considered infeasible, (2) objective metrics show statistically significant gains under the tested configurations, and (3) these gains enable practical workflows for field production and archival capture. For reasons of responsible disclosure and ongoing intellectual property protection, implementation details are withheld; instead we report experimental design at a high level, evaluation methodology, numeric results, and implications for practitioners …
