This study evaluated the antibacterial efficacy and growth-promoting potential of Moringa oleifera and Thymus vulgaris methanolic extracts in broiler chickens challenged with Escherichia coli O78. In vitro antibacterial screening using agar well diffusion and disc diffusion assays revealed that ciprofloxacin exhibited the strongest inhibitory effect, followed by tetracycline and enrofloxacin, whereas among plant extracts, T. vulgaris was more effective than M. oleifera. The optimal combination (M100T150; 100 mg M. oleifera + 150 mg T. vulgaris) produced the largest inhibition zones against E. coli strains. For the in vivo trial, 540 Ross-308 broiler chicks were distributed into six treatment groups in …

Introduction:
Sleep plays a crucial role in memory consolidation, not only stabilizing newly encoded information but also potentially supporting forgetting. Yet it remains unclear how sleep prioritizes what is retained or discarded when multiple salience cues, such as emotional valence and top-down instructional goals, compete for consolidation.
Methods:
In two studies, we examined how emotional content and intentional memory instruction interact to shape memory performance across a 12 h interval that included either nocturnal sleep or wakefulness. Participants completed a directed forgetting paradigm with neutral and negatively valenced words, followed by immediate recognition and delayed free recall.
Results:
In both …

SARS-CoV-2 variants have demonstrated distinct epidemiological patterns and clinical presentations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Understanding variant-specific differences at the respiratory epithelium is crucial for understanding their pathogenesis. Here, we utilized human nasal organoid air-liquid interface (HNO-ALI) cell cultures to compare the viral replication kinetics, innate immune response, and epithelial damage of six different strains of SARS-CoV-2 (B.1.2, WA, Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron). All variants replicated efficiently in HNO-ALIs, but with distinct replication kinetic patterns. The Delta variant exhibited delayed replication kinetics, achieving a steady state at 6 days post-infection compared to 3 days for other variants. Cytokine analysis revealed …

Primary Education In Nigeria: A Case Study Of The Global Mandate On Inclusive Education, Olusola John Ogundola
Primary Education In Nigeria: A Case Study Of The Global Mandate On Inclusive Education, Olusola John Ogundola
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation examines how inclusive education, mandated by Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), is implemented in primary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. Using a qualitative case study, I explored administrators’ and teachers’ experiences within contexts shaped by colonial legacies, systemic ableism, and resource constraints. Data sources included policy documents, lesson notes, researcher journals, and interviews. Guided by postcolonial and decolonial theory, Disability Critical Race Theory (DisCrit), and Critical Disability Studies (CDS), the study identified five themes: (1) colonial residues in language and schooling; (2) deficit framings of disability; (3) systemic …

Alloplastic Implants For Rhinoplasty: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis Of Clinical Outcomes And Complications, Rafeni Bunga Cikita, Beta Subakti Nataadmaja
Folia Medica Indonesiana
Alloplastic implants emphasize the importance of a comprehensive understanding of both clinical and histological aspects, which are attributed to enhancing patient satisfaction and surgical success rates. The study aims to assess the viability of different implant materials and their related risks over time. A systematic literature search was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, Cochrane, and EBSCOhost, to identify 79 records. After eliminating duplicates and applying specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, four new studies were included for evaluation, focusing on postoperative outcomes related to alloplastic implants in rhinoplasty. Late-onset inflammation in non-healthy capsules required removal and showed histological damage. One …

The College Transition And Experience: Swift Changes For African American First-Generation Students In Higher Education, Keyantta Houston
Ed.D. Capstone Reports
There is limited research available that focuses specifically on the lived experiences of African American, female, traditional first-generation college students (FGCS) who have attended rural Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs). Therefore, researchers need to conduct further studies to better understand the barriers faced by this population and how African American first-generation college students at PWIs navigate, experience, and cope with their college transition. A few barriers that African American first-generation college students that will be discussed throughout this research includes academic unpreparedness, campus climate, institution type, mental health, parental transition/education status, potential lack of guidance and knowledge of institutionally offered student …

The Trump administration recently announced two new ventures into industrial policy. First, it will impose a levy on chip exports to China by Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Under the agreement, Nvidia and AMD will pay the government 15 percent of their gross revenue from sales to China. The secretary of the Treasury has said the administration will consider expanding this type of deal to other industries. Second, the administration announced that it will take a 9.9 percent equity stake in Intel

School Leaders And Strategies To Address Teacher Shortages In A Rural School District, Phaniki Antwanette Jenkins
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem addressed was that education administrators struggle to reduce teacher shortages in rural public school districts in the Southeastern United States. Grounded in transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was three-fold: to understand what experiences education administrators had concerning teacher shortages, what practices they used to address shortages, and what strategies they deemed most helpful. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 10 state-certified administrators with at least 3 years’ experience in their role in one rural public school district in the Southeastern United States. Open and axial coding were used to support thematic analysis. Administrative experiences …

Strategies Managers Use To Retain Financial Advisors New To The Industry, Andraes Anthony Alexander
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
High employee turnover can negatively affect a business. Some financial advisor managers are concerned about the retention of financial advisors who are new to the industry, as addressing this issue is vital for organizational efficiency, given the high costs of employee replacement. Grounded in social exchange theory, the purpose of this qualitative, pragmatic inquiry project was to explore the strategies financial advisor managers use to improve the retention of financial advisors who are new to the industry. The participants comprised eight financial advisor managers with successful retention strategies. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and by reviewing organizational websites and …
The Role Of Higher Education Attainment In Mitigating Police Misconduct, Marty Allen Hatfield
The Role Of Higher Education Attainment In Mitigating Police Misconduct, Marty Allen Hatfield
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Police misconduct continues to undermine public trust and strain community–law enforcement relationships in the United States. The potential role of higher education in reducing misconduct among officers remains underexamined. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine whether higher educational attainment is associated with reduced rates of documented misconduct in a large urban police department. Grounded in the social learning and organizational justice theories, the research addressed how postsecondary education influences ethical decision-making and conduct. The overarching research question concerned whether education level predicted misconduct frequency, controlling for gender, rank, and years of service. Archival personnel and disciplinary …

I Am A Person Too: The State's Failure To Secure Transgender Rights And Personhood, Trevor L.M. Reynolds
Richmond Public Interest Law Review
The winds of change appeared to blow on June 15, 2020, when the Su- preme Court decided Bostock v. Clayton County. The Bostock decision—in which the Court held that discrimination based upon an employee’s gender identity violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act—has been heralded as a revolutionary triumph for the LGBTQ+ community. And yet, while the Bos- tock decision dictated that employers cannot terminate people based on their gender identity, it failed in the most important regard: establishing gender identity as a protected constitutional class. The Court, however, is not unique in its failure to secure transgender rights; …

The Illusion Of Protection: Examining The Enigmatic Privileges Or Immunities Clause, Victoria Hagerott
Richmond Public Interest Law Review
For many years, the United States Supreme Court has protected unenu- merated rights, or rights not expressly stated in the United States Constitu- tion, under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.! However, the Court has revoked or limited protections for certain unenumerated rights under this Clause in recent years. Most notably, in June 2022, the Supreme Court held in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that the Con- stitution does not confer the right to an abortion and thereby overtuming nearly fifty years of precedent that began with Roe v. Wade in 19732 To reach its holding in …

This study examines how perceived political party divide may foster affective polarization during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on nationally representative sample surveys of U.S. and South Korean adults, we investigate the relationship between attitude strength toward COVID-19 vaccines, perceived polarization, and affective polarization. Results suggest that individuals with stronger attitudes toward vaccines are more likely to perceive a greater ideological divide between political parties, which in turn, is associated with increased animosity toward the opposing party. Applying the mediation model to the South Korean sample yielded consistent findings, suggesting that the mechanism by which strong attitudes relate to negative emotions …

Background: Obesity is thought to increase cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk partly through dyslipidemia. Yet, obesity's effects on dyslipidemia are not uniform. Understanding the shared genetic basis between obesity and lipid traits can provide insight into this heterogeneity and its implications for CVD risk.
Methods: We examined local genetic correlations between three lipid measures [high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), and triglycerides (TG)] and body mass index (BMI) using genome-wide association study summary statistics from European ancestry UK Biobank participants. We identified genomic loci with opposing genetic effects on obesity and dyslipidemia risk (protective BMI-lipid loci) and those with …
Me, Myself, And The Influencer: Examining How Parasocial Interaction And Self-Congruence With Social Media Influencers Affects News Media Trust, Ben Wasike
Communication Faculty Publications
Social media influencers (SMIs) develop unique relationships with their followers, including high levels of trust and credibility. This study examined how these influencer–follower relationships affect news media trust with a focus on actual self-congruence, ideal self-congruence, parasocial interaction (PSI), and source and message credibility. Data showed that respectively, positive correlations exist between each of these variables and news media trust. However, ordinary least squares (OLS) regression only showed direct effects of actual self-congruence and PSI on trust, while message credibility had a negative effect. Structural equation modeling showed that actual self-congruence positively mediated the relationship between PSI and trust. Overall, …
