The Family Law Legacy Of The Freedom-To-Marry Movement - Moderator: Bonnie Carlson, Jessica Feinberg, Tanya Monique Washington, Marcia A. Zug
Mercer Law Review Symposium
The freedom-to-marry movement sparked sometimes unintended reactions, including accelerated legal recognition of nonmarital partners and new, alternative legal institutions, such as domestic partnerships, civil unions, and reciprocal beneficiaries. This panel will likely explore this path and the resilience of these legal innovations for same- and different-sex couples. Obergefell and its progeny, Pavan v. Smith, have also raised family law questions that have yet to be definitively resolved, such as the constitutionality of discrimination in parentage presumptions between same- and different-sex spouses. Finally, the panel might also address possible legal recognition for polyamorous relationships, which have been discussed since Obergefell …

Book Review Of To Save And To Destroy: Writing As An Other, Nguyen H B Le
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
Viet Thanh Nguyen’s To Save and to Destroy is a collection of his Norton lectures where he uses his generational stories of continuous immigration throughout Vietnam and the United States to explore how writing, with both internal and external experiences, shape our own identities, and forces that come into oppression, silence, and Otherness. In other words, the book depicts how he himself is seen from multiple others: “the Vietnamese, the Asian, the minoritized, the racialized, the colonized, the hybrid, the hyphenated, the refugee, the displaced, the artist, the writer, the smart ass, the bastard, the sympathizer, and the committed” (p. …

Roderick E. Theis, II v. InterMountain Education Service District Board of Directors
On Appeal from the United States District Court for the District of Oregon
No. 2:25-cv-00865-HL
From the Introduction
The First Amendment promises religious believers, of all faiths, the right “to participate on equal terms” in public life. Rosenberger v. Rector & Visitors of Univ. of Va., 515 U.S. 819, 852–53 (1995) (Thomas, J., concurring). The Supreme Court has repeatedly rejected the idea that individuals sacrifice those rights by accepting government employment. See, e.g., Pickering v. Bd. of Educ. of Twp. High Sch. Dist. 205, …

Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research
Objective The objective of this pilot project was to create a standardized Transition Note in the electronic health record (EHR) to facilitate clinician communication during the transition process from pediatric to adult care for youth with sickle cell disease (SCD). Methods Using a modified Delphi process, consensus was reached among 78 member centers from the National Alliance of Sickle Cell Centers (NASCC) on the essential health data elements for a standardized EHR Transition Note. Templates were created in 2 different EHR systems and piloted at 2 SCD centers. Perceived clinician acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility were assessed using the AIM-IAM-FAM measures …

Interest Rates, Venture Capital, & Financial Stability, Hilary J. Allen
Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals
As central banks tightened interest rates during 2022 and 2023, important debates arose regarding the relationship between monetary policy and financial stability. This Article illuminates one path through which the prolonged period of accommodative monetary policy from 2009-2021 impacted financial stability: it traces how easy money and yield-seeking behavior in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis and COVID-19 pandemic led to a bubble in the venture capital industry, which in turn spawned a crypto bubble as well as a run on the VC-favored Silicon Valley Bank. This Article uses this account to illustrate the importance of proactive financial regulation …

Understanding Rice Production Stagnation In The Philippines: Regional Evidence And Development Implications, Henry Bartelet, Alenn Jhulia D. Prodigalidad, Janelle S. Dy, Jan Gabriel N. Manzano
Quantitative Methods and Information Technology Faculty Publications
Despite decades of investment in agricultural research and rice development, the Philippines continues to face stagnation in domestic rice production. This persistent trend, occurring despite a sizable arable land base and large rural workforce, has contributed to the country’s growing reliance on rice imports to meet national food needs. In response, the government has implemented a tariff-based import system designed to fund domestic productivity improvements. While previous studies have explored the technical and environmental constraints affecting rice production, such as irrigation shortfalls, land degradation, and climate variability, few have examined recent national trends using regionally disaggregated data alongside qualitative insights. …
Strategic Analysis Of Digital Transformation Capabilities: A Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Evaluation Of Low-Cost Airlines, Mehmet Sahin Durak
Strategic Analysis Of Digital Transformation Capabilities: A Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Evaluation Of Low-Cost Airlines, Mehmet Sahin Durak
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
This study comparatively assesses the digital transformation capabilities of low-cost carriers (LCCs) operating in Turkey through the lens of dynamic capabilities. Based on a literature review and expert input, a hierarchical set of sensing, seizing and transforming sub-dimensions was defined. Criteria weights were obtained using the Best–Worst Method (BWM), and airline performance was evaluated and ranked with the WASPAS technique. The empirical application—covering Pegasus, SunExpress and Ajet—reveals that digital seizing capabilities (notably strategic digital agility, digital strategy development, and resource prioritization) carry the greatest weight. Pegasus scores highest overall, indicating a more institutionalized and holistic digital transformation approach; SunExpress shows …

This study examines the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and financial performance among publicly-traded insurance companies in the United States. As CSR evolves from voluntary ethical practice to strategic business imperative, understanding its financial implications becomes crucial for corporate decision-making and stakeholder value creation. This research employed a comprehensive literature-based analysis, synthesizing data from academic meta-analyses, industry sustainability reports, SEC filings, and investor sentiment surveys spanning 2022-2024. The study analyzed financial performance metrics, stock market reactions to CSR announcements, and institutional investor perceptions across major U.S. insurance firms including AIG, Prudential, MetLife, Swiss Re, Allianz, Munich Re, State …

Modeling Surgeon Belief Updating Under Bias: A Bayesian Simulation In Shoulder Arthroplasty, Mariano Menendez, Michael Moverman, Surena Namdari, Frederick Matsen, David Ring
Rothman Institute Papers
BACKGROUND: Shoulder surgeons often offer markedly different treatment recommendations for a given patient and pathophysiology within the context of a common body of evidence. Prior beliefs and cognitive bias may contribute to this variability. Using Bayesian decision theory informed by principles of behavioral science, we modeled how surgeons with different initial beliefs and degrees of bias update their treatment preferences in response to new evidence comparing anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) when making surgery recommendations for advanced primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis.
METHODS: We developed a Bayesian simulation involving 3 hypothetical surgeons with distinct initial beliefs: …

Over 30 Million And Growing: Child Development Accounts Around The World, Li Zou, Michael Sherraden
Center for Social Development Research
This report discusses the global reach and origins of Child Development Account policies, documenting impacts on approximately 32 million children worldwide. The policies range from Singapore’s comprehensive asset-building framework to Kazakhstan’s pioneering National Fund for Children. The seven policies highlighted here represent growing efforts to provide structured and lifelong asset-building across the full population, beginning as early as birth.
This report was updated in January 2026 to correct typographical errors in the monetary figures reported for South Korea.
