Improving Empathy And Reducing Stigmatization In Pre-Clinical Physician Assistant Students Towards Patient Taking Opioids For Chronic Pain: The Feasibility Of A Perspective-Taking Peer Role-Play Intervention, Barbie Ann Seton Stephen

Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations

Background: Empathy has been identified as a crucial skill for all healthcare providers who treat patients with chronic pain. It has been directly linked to higher patient satisfaction and improved health outcomes. It has also been linked to reduced burnout, fewer medical errors, and improved job satisfaction among healthcare providers. Despite the many interventions that have been developed to promote empathy, the decline of empathy in healthcare providers and trainees continues to be of great concern, especially in pain management and opioid prescribing, thus affecting the quality of care given to these patients. In physician assistant students, this decline has …

Breaking The Cycle: A Teacher And Mother’S Examination Of Multi-Tiered Systems Of Support, Jessica Hinton Nov 2025

Breaking The Cycle: A Teacher And Mother’S Examination Of Multi-Tiered Systems Of Support, Jessica Hinton

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The 2004 reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) included Response to Intervention (RTI) as an option for determining eligibility for learning disabilities. However, there is no required structure to follow for RTI implementation. This lack of guidance leads to a lack of clarity in implementation at district and site levels. Many states use RTI as the primary indicator of whether a student needs special education services for a learning disability. RTI is a model for delivery of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). The terms RTI and MTSS are often used interchangeably. For clarity, I use MTSS-RTI to …

In Search Of The Future For Special Operations Drone Forces, John "Jay" Patrich Nov 2025

In Search Of The Future For Special Operations Drone Forces, John "Jay" Patrich

GNSI Decision Briefs

The high risk, high reward possibilities of special operations forces (SOF) drone operations displayed itself in spectacular fashion on June 1, 2025, as SOF and conventional Ukrainian forces attacked four Russian air bases. Ukraine executed this unconventional operation deep in Russian territory with small, low altitude drones, hidden and launched remotely from trucks, causing an estimated $7 billion in damage and forcing Russia to retrograde high-value assets to more distant bases, changing the operational picture. The remainder of June and July saw the two nations exchanging more conventional drone attacks, some involving over 500 individual drones that were employed like …

Toward Autonomous Pavement Inspection: An End-To-End Vision-Based Framework For Pci Computation And Robotic Deployment, Nada El Desouky, Ahmed Torky, Mohamed Elbheiri, Mohamed Eid, Mohamed Ibrahim

Civil Engineering

Advancements in robotics and computer vision are transforming how infrastructure is monitored and maintained. This paper presents a novel, fully automated pipeline for pavement condition assessment that integrates real-time image analysis with PCI (Pavement Condition Index) computation, which is specifically designed for deployment on mobile and robotic platforms. Unlike traditional methods that rely on costly equipment or manual input, the proposed system uses deep learning-based object detection and ensemble segmentation to identify and measure multiple types of road distress directly from 2D imagery, including surface weathering, a key precursor to pothole formation often overlooked in previous studies. Depth estimation is …

The Effects Of Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury On Sexual Criminal Offense, Brooke Leslie Luckhardt

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Traumatic brain injury during childhood and adolescence is a significant social problem and is particularly damaging to long term cognitive and mental health. Major growth and maturation occur within the brain from age 6 months to 25 years and any interruption to this process can be detrimental to long term cognitive and emotional adjustment. Research has shown that pediatric traumatic brain injury can cause aggression, agitation, mood disorder, and socially inappropriate behavior. However, the study of how sustaining a traumatic brain injury during the time of pediatric development could potentially affect future sexually inappropriate behavior has not been explored. This …

The Relationship Between Perceived And Actual Knowledge Of Multi-Tiered Systems Of Support/Response To Intervention (Mtss/Rti) In Middle School Principals In Florida, Susan L. Sanger-Miller

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Principals play a crucial role in implementing MTSS/RtI (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support/Response to Intervention), yet little is known about their understanding of the RtI component. This quantitative survey examined Florida middle school principals’ actual and perceived knowledge of MTSS/RtI, as well as how training and demographic factors—such as special education certification, education level, Title I status, administrative experience during rollout years (2006–2010), district training hours, and college coursework—relate to that knowledge. Data from 54 principals were collected through perception scales, training background, and knowledge-based questions. Results showed principals rated their perceived knowledge higher than their actual knowledge, with a moderate …

Juan Bautista Ralliere’S Cánticos Espirituales And The Making Of A Transnational Soundscape In Nineteenth-Century New Mexico, Javier Marín-López

LAII Events

Compiled by the French priest Juan Bautista Rallière, pastor of Tomé, Cánticos espirituales is regarded as the most influential nineteenth-century Spanish-language hymnal of the U.S. Southwest. With at least fourteen editions published between 1884 and 1956, this remarkable collection of over 300 songs drew upon melodies from French, Italian, Spanish, Mexican, and New Mexican sources. This lecture offers a critical overview of its contents and examines the hymnal’s extensive use of contrafacta—new sacred texts set to familiar tunes—as a strategy for shaping a transnational Catholic soundscape in nineteenth-century New Mexico. Based on printed editions, manuscript sources, field recordings, and …

METHODS: RYGB patients underwent preoperative baseline, and 3- and 6-month positron emission tomography/computed tomography postoperative imaging. Maximum and mean standardized uptake values (SUV) were measured from the following predefined regions of interest: cecum, hepatic flexure, splenic flexure, sigmoid colon, duodenal bulb, Roux limb, and …

International Investment Law And Sustainable Development - Friend Or Foe?, Barnali Choudhury Nov 2025

International Investment Law And Sustainable Development - Friend Or Foe?, Barnali Choudhury

All Papers

Foreign direct investment (FDI) is widely regarded as a critical mechanism for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), yet the legal framework governing such investment often operates in tension with sustainability imperatives. This conference paper examines the complex relationship between international investment agreements (IIAs) and sustainable development and questions whether IIAs serve as instruments that promote or impede states’ pursuit of sustainability objectives. It argues that the structure and interpretation of IIAs, characterized by broad definitions and expansively worded standards of treatment as well as the use of investor–state dispute settlement (ISDS), have frequently constrained states’ regulatory autonomy, particularly in …

Pregnancy requires a supportive uterine environment facilitated by steroid hormone–regulated differentiation of endometrial stromal fibroblasts into decidual cells and tight control of inflammation. Serum response factor (SRF) is a widely expressed transcription factor essential for mesenchymal cell growth and differentiation with noted roles in hormonal regulation of muscle tissues but little characterization in reproductive organs. Here, we reveal that endometrial SRF is dysregulated in human endometriosis and is critical for female reproductive success in mice through regulation of endometrial stromal and epithelial cells. Immunohistochemical analysis identified decreased endometrial SRF expression in infertile endometriosis patient tissues. RNAi-based SRF knockdown in human …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

INTRODUCTION: Transitions of care (TOC) between hospital, ambulatory and home settings for high-risk adults with chronic diseases are complex, costly and often result in poor health outcomes. Suboptimal care transitions lead to medication errors, non-adherence, decreased self-management skills and inadequate follow-up, all of which contribute to readmissions or emergency department visits. The Transitional Care Model aims to address these challenges through patient-centred, in-home interventions. We propose to implement and evaluate TELE-TOC: Telehealth Education Leveraging Electronic Transitions Of Care for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients. This study will evaluate the added value of a virtual, pharmacy-based intervention integrated into an …
