Effective Strategies For Managing Employee Resistance During Organizational Change In Healthcare Settings, Jelela Nicole Curvey
Effective Strategies For Managing Employee Resistance During Organizational Change In Healthcare Settings, Jelela Nicole Curvey
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Employee resistance to organizational change reflects significant challenges for healthcare organizations. Healthcare leaders are concerned with employee resistance as it negatively influences patient care outcomes. Grounded in Lewin’s three-stage change model, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry project was to identify and explore successful strategies healthcare leaders used to manage employee resistance during organizational change. Six healthcare leaders participated, each of whom had successfully implemented change initiatives while minimizing resistance. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and publicly available documents. Through thematic analysis, three themes emerged: (a) transparent communication and employee involvement, (b) supportive leadership behavior and emotional intelligence, …

Power, Benefits, And Visibility In Qualitatively Driven Mixed Methods Research, David L. Morgan
Sociology Faculty Publications and Presentations
This article demonstrates the importance of power, benefits, and visibility in understanding the past, present, and future of qualitatively driven mixed methods research. For power, I examine the past roles played by both quantitative and qualitative methods, and the greater influence of quantitative methods in the development of mixed methods. For benefits, I discuss the need for value added in our current studies, and sequential designs that give equal attention to both qualitatively driven and quantitatively driven approaches. For visibility, I emphasize the future importance of promoting qualitatively driven designs, such as sequential sampling and sequential transferability. The article contributes …

Interpretable Machine Learning For Cardiovascular Risk Prediction: Insights From Nhanes Dietary And Health Data, Md Ahiduzzaman, Md Nahid Hasan
Faculty Publications
Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the leading global causes of death, which requires an accurate early prediction. This study aimed to develop transparent machine learning (ML) models using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2017–2023 to predict CVD risk based on dietary and health factors.
Methods: We analyzed data from 12,382 adults (aged 18 and older) from NHANES 2017–2023, including 41 dietary, anthropometric, clinical, and demographic variables. Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) was used to select an optimal subset of 30 predictors. To address substantial class imbalance in the outcome, we applied the Random Over-Sampling Examples …

Exploring Teachers’ Perspectives On Digital Storytelling As A Tool In Saudi Kindergarten Classrooms: A Qualitative Multicase Study, Ouhuud Alahmdi
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 emphasizes the importance of integrating digital technologies into early childhood education, with the goal of developing children’s skills for the 21st century from an early age and preparing them for the future. Digital storytelling is an effective and interactive multimodal strategy to enhance young children’s skills in the classroom. However, there is limited research examining how kindergarten teachers design and utilize digital storytelling in their classrooms. This qualitative multicase study aimed to explore how Saudi kindergarten teachers perceived and implemented digital storytelling as a tool to promote engagement and comprehension among young children. The study focused …

Racial And Ethnic Differences In Experiencing Administrative Burdens In Public Benefit Programs, Stephen Roll, Mathieu Despard, Yung Chun, Kourtney Gilbert
Center for Social Development Research
Complex program rules can make it difficult to enroll and stay in public programs. These barriers are administrative burdens, the difficulties program applicants and participants face in accessing the benefits to which they are entitled under law. Drawing upon data from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility Survey of a nationally representative sample of 2,511 low-wage U.S. workers, this brief examines whether the experience of administrative burdens in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid vary by the race and ethnicity of the individual interacting with the program.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is one of the most aggressive subtypes of breast cancer, with limited targeted treatment options and poor clinical outcomes. HER3 has recently emerged as a promising therapeutic target, with HER3-directed antibody–drug conjugates advancing to Phase III clinical trials for non-small cell lung cancer. However, the downstream molecular mechanisms by which HER3 promotes TNBC progression remain poorly defined. In this study, we uncovered a previously unrecognized HER3/miR-34b-5p/PHF8 signaling axis that drives TNBC cell proliferation and tumor growth. Mechanistically, HER3 activation suppresses the tumor-suppressive microRNA miR-34b-5p, resulting in the upregulation of the histone demethylase PHF8 (KDM7B), which in …

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most aggressive cancers characterized by highly invasive growth into the surrounding peripancreatic fat tissue, where tumor cells can directly interact with adipocytes. Due to poor response to the currently available (radio)chemotherapies, there is an urgent need for advanced therapy concepts. The present study shows that ADAMTS13 (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 13), a key factor in blood coagulation, is significantly overexpressed in human PDAC. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that ADAMTS13 expression is associated with prolonged survival and negatively correlated with vascular density. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate its partial …

Developing A Classroom To Support Culturally Responsive Teaching: A Culturally Responsive Aspiring Teacher Assignment, Steven K. Sharp, David L. Conrad
Journal of Applied Disciplines
Following the development of the [State] Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards (CRTL), one University teacher preparation program created an assignment to challenge aspiring educators to think critically about culturally responsive teaching. With structural challenges such as tracking and culturally biased standardized testing, the program needed to evaluate how aspiring teachers would address those challenges while delivering a diverse curriculum, connecting with home and families, and valuing different linguistic backgrounds. Within a course on cross-cultural education, we developed a four-part assignment aligned with the course textbook by Nieto and Bode (2018). First, candidates created a reasonably diverse classroom to simulate …

Program Transition Success: A Practical Guide For Educators Moving Sbae Programs, Evey Choat
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
What tools, strategies, and support systems can help agriculture educators navigate leadership transitions and sustain program success when moving between schools or communities? Teacher mobility and leadership transitions within School-Based Agricultural Education (SBAE) present unique challenges to program continuity, community relations, and professional sustainability. Unlike other subject areas, SBAE teachers often manage multifaceted responsibilities—as classroom instructors, FFA advisors, and community liaisons—making transitions between programs especially complex. This project addresses the lack of structured support for educators navigating these transitions by developing a Program Transition Guide specifically tailored to the needs of agricultural educators in Nebraska.

What Fuels The Badge: College Students’ Beliefs On What Motivates Officers, Riya N. Patel
The Pegasus Review: UCF Undergraduate Research Journal
Today, a large, increasing gap in trust exists between law enforcement officers and civilians. Although law enforcement officers may possess a “rescue personality” (e.g., being a highly dedicated risk-taker with a desire to help), they are feared by some civilians (Salters-Pedneault et al., 2010; Wynveen et al., 2007). Still, many officers choose more positive motivators for pursuing their career, including factors such as job security, benefits, and the desire to help others (Schuck, 2020). To better understand this, this study surveyed 198 undergraduate students at the University of Central Florida who completed a survey measuring their perceptions of the motivators …

Lipedema And Adipose Tissue: Current Understanding, Controversies, And Future Directions, Atefeh Rabiee
Pacific Faculty Work
Lipedema is a chronic disorder characterized by the symmetrical accumulation of subcutaneous adipose tissue, predominantly affecting women. Despite increasing recognition, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying adipose tissue dysfunction in lipedema remain incompletely understood. This mini review combines current knowledge about adipose tissue biology in lipedema, highlighting recent discoveries, ongoing controversies, and future research directions. A comprehensive literature review was conducted focusing on adipose tissue-related research in lipedema with emphasis on pathophysiological mechanisms, cellular composition, and therapeutic implications. Recent studies reveal that lipedema adipose tissue exhibits distinct characteristics, including M2 macrophage predominance, stage-dependent adipocyte hypertrophy, progressive fibrosis, and altered lymphatic/vascular function. In this holdover proceeding alleging nuisance, the tenant moved for summary judgment, asserting the landlord failed to state a cause of action by not marking the specific good cause ground on the required GCEL notice, despite acknowledging the premises was subject to GCEL. The landlord argued GCEL applied only to non-renewal cases, not to terminations based on conduct. The court disagreed, holding that GCEL applies to all tenants in covered housing accommodations irrespective of lease expiration or tenancy type. Since the landlord failed to specify the applicable good cause basis in the GCEL notice, the tenant's motion for summary judgment …

Low Colorado River flows threaten to draw down Lake Powell and Lake Mead below their minimum power pool elevations. Additionally, the U.S. Federal Government through its Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has set a new deadline for November 11, 2025 for new proposals to operate Lake Powell and Lake Mead after existing operations expire at the end of 2026. In a prior April 2025 post, we shared 13 reasons why we have hope for consensus on new operations (Rosenberg et al., 2026). One reason was that during crisis, rapid changes in policies and operations are possible. More recently, we asked the …
