Using Machine Learning To Predict Maintenance Intentions Of Septic System Owners, Audrey Mccrary, Luna Yang, Allen Berthold
Using Machine Learning To Predict Maintenance Intentions Of Septic System Owners, Audrey Mccrary, Luna Yang, Allen Berthold
Journal of Contemporary Water Research and Education
The scope of literature related to septic system maintenance from an educational and behavioral perspective, rather than a quantitative water quality approach, is limited. The water resources management community needs improved insight into the human factors related to septic system maintenance decisions and identification of effective intervention strategies. Using a modified Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB; Ajzen 1991) framework, the purpose of this study was to identify factors that predict homeowners’ intention to have their systems inspected and pumped within the next three years. As part of a small-scale educational program, a survey was sent to 1,374 homeowners with septic …

Understanding the interests and habits of visitors helps organizations. The purpose of this study was to analyze the Michigan Department of Natural Resources campground visitor activity participation from before and after COVID. Nearly 40,000 campers each year were compared from 75 campground locations throughout the state of Michigan. Findings indicate the growth of many of their outdoor oriented activities from 2019 to 2024 including beach / swimming, hiking, rock hunting, and …
Decarbonizing China's Economy: Empirical Insights On Policy Stringency, Industrial Transformation, And Green Innovation, Saqib Munir
Arab Economic and Business Journal
China, the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitter, grapples with aligning economic growth with its 2030 carbon peak and 2060 neutrality goals, yet the combined impact of policy stringency, industrial transformation, and green innovation on carbon intensity remains insufficiently understood. This study examined the drivers of carbon intensity in China from 1999 to 2023, analysing how policy stringency, industrial restructuring, green innovation, renewable energy, foreign direct investment, urbanization, and energy efficiency interact. Using World Bank, we applied econometric techniques like ARDL, FMOLS, and variance decomposition to capture dynamic relationships and address endogeneity. Results confirm that stringent policies and shifts from heavy …

Sweat And Subjectivity Copyright Impulses, Danny Friedmann
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
Generative artificial intelligence (gAI) is generating vast vol- umes of content, including visual art with minimal human effort that competes directly with visual artists and threatens to dilute human culture in the process. In response, courts and copyright offices are quietly reintroducing two doctrines long considered incompatible with modern copyright: sweat of the brow, which rewards labor over originality, and aesthetic discrimination, which risks conditioning protection on perceived merit.
This article is the first to demonstrate how legal authorities are reintroducing these discredited doctrines under the guise of regulating AI-assisted outputs, thereby eroding the set of copyright doctrines accepted by …

Driving Together: The Necessity Of A Comprehensive Federal Response For The Success Of Autonomous Vehicles, Timothy Buff
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
Today’s world is full of promising yet controversial new technologies. Large Language Models (LLMs), such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, have both promised fantastic results and generated a range of critiques. Quantum computing claims to be able to complete computations that would take traditional computers, even supercomputers, longer than the lifespan of the universe to complete. With such advancements, the future dreamed of in science fiction stories of the twentieth century seems to be becoming reality. Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are another notable technology, which promise to ultimately remove any human responsibility, and hence any human error, from the process of driving a …

“It’S Not The Heat, It’S The Humidity!” New Climate Indices For Europe With A Multilevel Factor Model, Chiara Casoli, Matteo Manera, Luca Pedini, Daniele Valenti
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
We construct a comprehensive set of climate indices for European countries that account for several variables related to weather, atmospheric conditions, and water availability. Our dataset includes monthly gridded climate observations from ERA5-Land, aggregated at the country level. Employing a Multilevel Dynamic Factor Model, we disentangle a global indicator, capturing overall climate dynamics across Europe, from country-specific local indices. While most empirical studies proxy climate through temperature or precipitation, our approach acknowledges that other atmospheric dimensions, such as humidity, radiation, and evaporation, jointly shape climatic variability and its economic effects. The global index primarily reflects temperature patterns common to most …

Examining Social Workers’ Perceptions Of Collaborating With Police Officers To Foster Community Trust In Oklahoma, Lashonda Lanette Dale
Examining Social Workers’ Perceptions Of Collaborating With Police Officers To Foster Community Trust In Oklahoma, Lashonda Lanette Dale
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The current study was administered in order to examine Oklahoman social workers’ perception of collaborating with police officers to foster community trust. The goal was to determine whether the collaboration amongst social and police officer fostered trust when collaborating during services calls. The theory of planned behavior and policing (TPBP) studied by Ishoy and giving credit to Ajzen’s were the foundational theory used to support this study. Collaboration among social workers and police officers can foster community trust and benefit both parties. Such collaboration could also lead to joint training and education, as well as alleviating public fears and misconceptions. …
Assessing The Role Of Social Media As A Complementary Source In Pharmacovigilance: Insights From Faers, X (Formerly Twitter), And Askapatient Data Across Multiple Drug Classes, Nwanneka Okere
Dissertations
Background: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) pose significant public health challenges yet remain substantially underreported in traditional pharmacovigilance systems. Social media platforms and patient-reported outcome forums have emerged as potential complementary sources for capturing real-time patient experiences with medications, but their integration with established surveillance systems remains underexplored.
Purpose: This study examined ADR reporting patterns across FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS), X (formerly Twitter), and Askapatient to evaluate whether patient-generated digital data can complement traditional pharmacovigilance systems for enhanced drug safety monitoring.
Methods: An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design analyzed 107,753 reports representing 289,740 individual ADR occurrences for …

How Ftc Data Security Cases Inform The Development Of Legally Accountable Software, Jeff Kosseff, Ellis Fenske, Christopher Brown, Daniel S. Roche
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
Over the past two decades, the Federal Trade Commission has brought dozens of enforcement actions against companies for failing to adequately secure customers’ personal information. The actions typically result in a consent decree, in which the company agrees to improve its data security practices and provide the FTC with oversight of those improvements. When the FTC first brought data security cases, its orders generally required the companies to adopt “reasonable” data security programs. But a 2018 Eleventh Circuit opinion, LabMD v. FTC, requires the orders to contain far more specific data security requirements. In this Article, we conduct an in-depth …

This work presents a facile mechano-thermal route for the synthesis of carbon-decorated, hollow, mesoporous alpha-Fe2O3 microspheres. Comprehensive characterization (XRD, XPS, FT-IR, SEM/EDX, TGA, zeta-potential) confirmed the formation of phase-pure hematite with nanoscale crystallites (similar to 19 nm), substantial residual surface carbon (similar to 40 wt%) consistent with Fe-O-C linkages, and a positive surface charge (+15.9 mV). The hierarchical hollow/mesoporous architecture enables fast ion transport and provides extensive interior binding sites, resulting in rapid Pb(II) uptake that reaches 92% removal in approximate to 15 min at pH 5.0. The adsorption follows a Langmuir isotherm (q(max) approximate to 70.6 mg/g) and pseudo-second-order …

Beyond The Madrasah: Digital Pedagogies And Nigerian Yoruba Muslim Women's Engagement With Islamic Knowledge, Abdulgafar Olawale Fahm
Comparative Woman
This paper explores how digital pedagogies are reshaping the landscape of Islamic education among Nigerian Muslim women, with a primary focus on Yoruba communities in Southern Nigeria. Historically, Islamic learning in Nigeria has been rooted in traditional institutions, notably the madrasa, characterized by face-to-face instruction and rigid gender norms. However, the proliferation of digital technologies - particularly online madrasas, WhatsApp study groups, Zoom-based Qur’anic classes, and Islamic mobile applications - has significantly altered women’s access to religious knowledge. Utilizing ethnographic evidence and qualitative interviews, this interdisciplinary study examines how digital platforms enhance accessibility, overcome sociocultural barriers, and enable Nigerian Yoruba …

Correcting Class Imbalance Through Synthetic Training Data And 3d Modeling For Carabid Pitfall Trap Sampling, Blair Mirka
Correcting Class Imbalance Through Synthetic Training Data And 3d Modeling For Carabid Pitfall Trap Sampling, Blair Mirka
Geography ETDs
Crowdsourced biodiversity data provide an accessible foundation for large-scale ecological monitoring, but class imbalance limits automated species identification, particularly for rare taxa. This research explores the use of synthetic training data generated from 3D models of carabid beetle museum specimens to improve detection and classification performance for underrepresented species in crowdsourced datasets. High-resolution 3D models were created to simulate variation in lighting, orientation, and background. These synthetic images were incorporated into convolutional neural network training datasets at varying synthetic-to-real ratios to assess their impact on classification accuracy. Models were evaluated using controlled pitfall-trap imagery to examine the influence of scene …

Pakistan’S Growth Experience, 1947–2007, Ishrat Husain Dr.
Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse
Pakistan’s growth experience over the past sixty years is both impressive and disappointing. It is impressive because rapid growth rate has resulted in a quadrupling of per capita incomes and reduction in poverty levels by one half despite fairly high population growth. Structural changes have transformed a predominantly agrarian economy to a more diversified production structure. Manufactures account for 80 percent of the country’s exports. But there is a sense of disappointment too. Social indicators are among the worst in developing countries. Pakistan ranks 134th among 177 countries in Human Development Index. Income Inequalities, Rural Urban disparities and Gender differentials …
