2025 November 13 - Academic Council Agenda And Minutes, Academic Council, East Tennessee State University
Academic Council Agenda and Minutes
The Academic Council convened on November 13, 2025, to review agenda items including approval of previous minutes, action items, and updates on ongoing institutional initiatives. The primary action item was the introduction and approval of a new Bachelor of Business Administration program in Hospitality and Tourism Management, presented by Dr. Kelly Hall and Dr. Tony Pittarese. The proposal emphasized applied learning, alignment with accreditation standards, regional workforce demand, and strong labor‑market data indicating significant employer needs across Tennessee and neighboring states. The council also received a comprehensive strategic planning update from Dr. Hoff, who outlined ETSU’s alignment with upcoming Tennessee …
Music Technology As A Medium To Stem Education, Sophia Grace Moon
Music Technology As A Medium To Stem Education, Sophia Grace Moon
Masters Theses
This project researched how music technology programs can be implemented in high schools of low-income communities to act as a medium in teaching STEM education. The point at which students are first introduced to STEM concepts is critical in terms of their interest. The project explored the ways we can help students not only excel in school, but also help to interest them in subjects that have lucrative job markets as well. The number of jobs related to STEM fields continues to grow as our society relies more and more on technology. Getting students interested in STEM almost guarantees a …
Pauline Style And A Biblical Theology, Andrew Whitney Perkins
Pauline Style And A Biblical Theology, Andrew Whitney Perkins
Masters Theses
Advances in biblical linguistics, especially in the Greek of the New Testament, have provided a means for a better understanding of the text of Scripture. Advances in Greek lexicography, syntax, verbal aspect, discourse analysis, exegetical and hermeneutical methods, and the historical background behind the gospels and letters of the New Testament have greatly increased interpreters’ ability to determine what the text meant from both the writers and to the recipients of those documents. However, Christian theology, especially Systematic Theology, has remained mostly static, unaffected by these advances, and by a more accurate understanding of the biblical text. This thesis affirms …
Desegregated Goals: Integrating Literacy And Behavioral Health In A Community Mental Health Setting To Improve Outcomes For Middle School Students, Donna M. Reed
Masters Theses
Despite an understanding that many at-risk students lack the reading and writing skills to navigate high school and post-secondary education successfully, current interventions are often inadequate. Schools are forced to focus on academic requirements, while other needs of the student are overlooked, and it is those overlooked needs that contribute to the educational failures of the student. This thesis presents an argument for holistic support of the at-risk student when remediating academics, specifically reading and writing skills, focusing on the middle school students of a rural middle school in central Kansas. It develops a curriculum that integrates physical and mental …

Life After Prison: Exploring Gendered Differences In The Impact Of Social Support On The Ease Of Reintegration For Previously Incarcerated Men And Women, Joy Ferdinand
Theses and Dissertations
Successful reintegration into society remains a significant challenge for formerly incarcerated individuals, particularly in securing stable housing and employment. This study examines the gendered impact of social support on reintegration outcomes, specifically assessing how peer instrumental support, familial instrumental support, and familial emotional support influence housing stability and employment within three months of release. Using data from the Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative (SVORI), this study employs logistic regression models to explore whether gender moderates the relationship between social support and reentry success. Findings indicate that peer instrumental support significantly affects housing stability, but its impact varies by gender. …

Commodification, Spatialization, And Structuration In Collaboration Between Local Media And Local Government In West Java, Awang Ruswandi
Commodification, Spatialization, And Structuration In Collaboration Between Local Media And Local Government In West Java, Awang Ruswandi
JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA
In the era of local government autonomy and decentralization, numerous collaborations have emerged between local governments and local media, particularly in reporting government activities. Utilizing Vincent Mosco's political economy of communication framework, this study aims to elucidate the power relations manifested through commodification, specialization, and structuration between local media and government. This qualitative case study gathers data through in-depth interviews. Findings reveal that local government media cooperation funds serve as a mechanism to secure special coverage spaces with positive content about governmental activities, not in the form of advertising or advertorial, but in the form of news. While financially beneficial …
Reducing Data Requirements In Polymer Science: Deep Neural Networks For Predicting Surface Tension Of Copolymer Compatibilizers, Md Mushfiqul Islam
Reducing Data Requirements In Polymer Science: Deep Neural Networks For Predicting Surface Tension Of Copolymer Compatibilizers, Md Mushfiqul Islam
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In polymer chemistry, compatibilization involves adding a substance often a block or graft copolymerto stabilize polymer blends that would otherwise not mix well, leading to rough structures and weak me- chanical properties. Compatibilizers improve miscibility and reduce interfacial tension, which is critical for applications such as mixed-waste polymer recycling. Sequence-controlled polymers offer unique potential by combining the tunable chemistry of synthetic polymers with the precise, function-driven design of biological macromolecules, but unlike proteins, they lack large, evolution-shaped datasets to guide discovery. This research develops a deep learning framework to predict the surface tension of sequence-controlled copolymer compatibilizers across varying concentrations. …

Robin Hoods Of The Revolution: A Great American Outlaw Myth, Erin K. Levy
Robin Hoods Of The Revolution: A Great American Outlaw Myth, Erin K. Levy
Masters Theses
Historians have depicted the Doan Gang of Bucks County as either heroes or villains and, thus, distorting the more truthful history of the notorious outlaws. To a great extent, aspects of oral tradition, contemporary accounts, and even descendants of the Doan Gang themselves have greatly contributed to the outlaw mythology. Interestingly, Robin Hood motifs have attributed to the mythical elements of the Doan Gang legend, especially the classic theme of philanthropic justice. In reality, historical evidence refutes such claims. Instead, the Doan Gang’s membership was comprised of everyday men and women who were driven to a life of outlawry for …
