Blistering Bulbs: The Hidden Dangers Of Garlic As A Home Remedy., Riley Bunstine, Christopher M Lloyd
Ambulatory and Primary Care Articles
We report a case of a 46-year-old male who developed a second-degree chemical burn after application of crushed raw garlic to his left wrist. When crushed, garlic activates the enzyme alliinase that converts alliin into allicin. In controlled concentrations, allicin has been shown to have a wide array of therapeutic benefits; however, its use as an unregulated home remedy carries a significant risk of toxicity. This patient applied crushed garlic to his left wrist and left this poultice in place for five hours, hoping to ease wrist pain from a previous car accident. Upon removal, he felt an intense burning …

UNLABELLED: Metastasis is the main cause of prostate cancer-associated deaths, highlighting the urgent need to determine the mechanisms underlying prostate cancer progression. TROP2 (also known as tumor-associated calcium signal transducer 2) is an oncogenic transmembrane surface protein that is highly expressed in metastatic prostate cancer. Naturally occurring cleavage of TROP2 leads to a release of the TROP2 extracellular domain (TECD) into the extracellular environment. In this study, we identified an important functional role of TECD in prostate cancer metastasis. TECD was detectable in media from prostate cancer cells and serum from patients with clinically significant prostate cancer. Although shed TECD …

The revision of Law 39/2008 on State Ministries, which removes the maximum limit of 34 ministries, has become a polemic issue in society. Analysis shows that increasing the number of ministries is not urgent and runs counter to the spirit of bureaucratic reform. This policy also does not improve the effectiveness of government administration, because the main issue affecting the effectiveness of ministries lies in the quality of ministers, not the number of ministries. The addition of ministries has the potential to cause overlapping authorities, regulatory disharmony, and sectoral egos. From an efficiency perspective, this policy places a heavy burden …

Violence As An Ecology: Women Making Safety In Khayelitsha, Melissa J. Miller-Felton
Violence As An Ecology: Women Making Safety In Khayelitsha, Melissa J. Miller-Felton
Graduate Program in International Studies Theses & Dissertations
This dissertation asks how women in Khayelitsha make safety in a place where danger has become ordinary and where the afterlives of colonialism and apartheid still determine who waits, who walks, and who arrives home. What began as a study of risk and protection grew into an inquiry about time, dignity, and responsibility. I call the framework that emerged an ecology of violence—a way of seeing how harm gathers across generations and infrastructures, and how care, exhaustion, and survival intertwine within it.
In this ecology, violence is not a single act but a confluence of registers—slow, structural, colonial, and …

Introduction Internal medicine training has historically relied on classroom-based lectures, typically delivered through morning and noon conferences, which offer broad content coverage but limited experiential learning. Simulation-based education improves resident confidence, procedural ability, and clinical reasoning; yet it is often delivered in brief, standalone activities that lack longitudinal structure or integration within the broader curriculum. Few programs have a longitudinal simulation curriculum that spans the academic year and incorporates multiple modalities and topics. We developed a novel simulation-based curriculum intentionally integrated into the existing resident academic schedule to provide structured hands-on learning across multiple domains. Sessions focused on procedural and …
