The Relationship Between Agency Understaffing And Administrative Burdens In Snap And Medicaid, Guangli Zhang, Stephen Roll, Mathieu Despard
Center for Social Development Research
For families trying to enroll in public programs to meet essential needs like food and health care, speed and timeliness can be critical. But people face numerous barriers in enrolling in these programs and in maintaining eligibility once enrolled. This research brief uses a new measure of staff workloads in public benefit agencies for every U.S. state and examines the link between these workloads and the experience of administrative burdens among low-wage workers. The analyses draw upon data from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility Survey.

INTRODUCTION: Same-day initiation (SDI) of antiretroviral therapy is recommended for people presenting with HIV who have no contraindications. We reviewed the evidence on SDI interventions in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials of SDI in adults diagnosed with HIV in LMICs. We searched MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane Library up to December 2024. Primary outcomes were viral suppression and retention in care 6-12 months after enrolment. Based on a qualitative assessment of the complex trial interventions, we considered two subgroups: (1) interventions newly introducing SDI and (2) interventions improving …

UNLABELLED:
IMPORTANCE: Cryptosporidiosis is a leading cause of diarrhea in young children and immunocompromised individuals, particularly AIDS/HIV patients. The only FDA-approved drug against cryptosporidiosis, nitazoxanide, has limited effectiveness in immunocompromised patients and is not approved for use in children under 1 year. Genomic analysis and previous studies proposed an alternative respiration pathway involving alternative oxidase (AOX) and type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenase (NDH2), which are thought to generate the mitosome membrane potential in

Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is one of the most commonly seen neurodegenerative disorders, where early detection of its biomarkers is crucial for effective management. Conventional diagnostic methods are often expensive, time-consuming, and highly complex, which highlights an urgent need for point-of-care biosensing technology. In this work, we developed assays on three-dimensional (3D) graphene foam electrodes by functionalising them with a 1-Pyrenebutyric acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester (Pyr-NHS) to enable effective antibody immobilisation for the detection of amyloid beta peptides (Aβ42 and Aβ40), key biomarkers for AD. Pyr-NHS linkers were used for stable functionalisation, followed by binding with Aβ42 and Aβ40 antibodies, and then …

This study evaluated participation outcomes one year after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) compared with matched healthy controls and identified factors associated with participation within the patient group. Forty aSAH survivors and seventy-five controls were assessed 12–14 months post-ictus. Participation was measured with the Utrecht Scale for Evaluation of Rehabilitation–Participation (USER-P), psychological distress with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), coping with the Brief COPE, and cognition with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Compared with controls, patients reported greater participation restrictions (82 vs. 100, p < 0.001), lower frequency (35 vs. 51, p < 0.001), and reduced satisfaction (65 vs. 75, p < 0.001). Anxiety, depression, and avoidant coping independently predicted restrictions (adjusted R2 = 0.48), while satisfaction was predicted by employment, fewer depressive symptoms, and less avoidant coping (adjusted R2 = 0.52). Lower MoCA scores predicted reduced participation frequency (p = 0.032), and patients with cognitive impairment showed significantly greater restrictions and …

Symposium of Student Scholars
Although a bachelor's degree is commonly viewed as a pathway to career success, many students graduate without the practical skills and real-world knowledge needed to thrive in the workplace (Song, 2025). Employers are placing greater importance on critical thinking and soft skills such as communication and collaboration—areas that traditional academic programs may not always prioritize. In spring 2025, a multi-institutional team developed and completed a research study evaluating the curriculum of a course focused on preparing students for the workforce. Individuals in business, government and/or non-profit communities reviewed the current course curriculum and offered insight for emerging trends needed to …

Defining The European Union’S Top Public Health Priorities: What Can Be Gleaned From Its Multi-State Interdisciplinary Systems?, Mattie Frascella, Thierry Leger
Symposium of Student Scholars
Delineation of the European Union’s (EU) contemporary public health agenda is examined within the evolving architecture of a ‘European Health Union.’ Five interdependent domains are synthesized: climate and planetary health, digital transformation, resilient systems and workforce development, non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention, and cross-sectoral and global leadership. Mutual reinforcement is essential for achieving equitable outcomes. The climate pillar reframes environmental disruption as a public health emergency, embedding adaptation, mitigation, and Planetary/One Health approaches across EU initiatives. The digital pillar examines the European Health Data Space and adjacent tools (telemedicine, e-prescribing, mobile health) as infrastructure for secure interoperability, research, and quality improvement. …
