Are A.I. Lawyers A Legal Product Or Legal Service?: Why Current Upl Laws Are Not Up To The Task Of Regulating Autonomous A.I. Actors, Sean Steward
Hofstra Law Review
The rise of automation, particularly with the advent of large language models, presents a significant potential for the legal profession. While automation has traditionally focused on manual and repetitive tasks, A.I.'s evolution now allows machines to handle complex, thought-intensive work involving decision-making. This shift underscores a pressing issue: the American legal system lacks a clear definition of the practice of law. This becomes especially critical as A.l, an "autonomous actor," begins to take on roles that were previously exclusive to human practitioners. One company that exemplifies the advanced capabilities of modern A.I.-powered technology is Pactum Al Pactum's autonomous negotiation software …
Defining The Field Of Wellness Law, Barbara J. Zabawa
Defining The Field Of Wellness Law, Barbara J. Zabawa
Hofstra Law Review
Some lawyers practice "wellness law " without knowing what it is and how it differs from more recognized fields of practice such as health law, public health law, and medical malpractice. This Article defines the field of wellness law using, in a prescriptive manner, the organizational framework that identifies the common and distinctive patterns in wellness and the law that surrounds it. This examination entails reviewing statutes and cases that differentiate between conventional health care and products or services outside of it to identify the core problems that are common and unique to wellness law. Those core problems are twofold. …

A Temporal Extension Of Tasselnet With Uncertainty Quantification Using Bayesian Latent Autoregressive Model, Gayara Demini Fernando Muthunama Gonnage
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Manual counting of maize tassels remains a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. Automating tassel counting using maize field images has received significant interest, with researchers exploring methods to streamline this task. Accurate tassel detection can substantially reduce both time and labor costs, offering a practical solution for large-scale agricultural management. Current studies in this area predominantly focus on training object detection algorithms to enhance prediction accuracy and efficiency. Images for this task are often captured in sequences, meaning they capture the exact location of the maize fields over time. However, existing tassel detection and counting methods typically ignore this sequential nature, …
Working Around Public Policy Towards A Grounded, Filipinized Philosophy Education, Ysabella Margarette M. Zureta
Working Around Public Policy Towards A Grounded, Filipinized Philosophy Education, Ysabella Margarette M. Zureta
Philosophy Department Faculty Publications
Amidst a backdrop of highly Westernized philosophy education in the Philippines and the continuous disregard of Filipino philosophy as philosophy, FPA Demeterio III relegates the question and debate of the existence of Filipino philosophy as “retrogressive.” He instead creates a grand taxonomy of Filipino philosophy that enumerates twelve forms of the discipline, which he whittles down to five forms with highly developmental potentials for both scholars and teachers alike to dedicate their study to. My study then attempts to answer the following research question: Is the present state-recommended undergraduate philosophy curriculum in the Philippines capable of developing Demeterio’s articulation of …
Enhancing Tribological Performance Of Graphite Coatings Through Spray Deposition And Adhesion-Promoting Polydopamine Underlayers, Adedoyin Ayomide Abe
Enhancing Tribological Performance Of Graphite Coatings Through Spray Deposition And Adhesion-Promoting Polydopamine Underlayers, Adedoyin Ayomide Abe
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Graphite is a widely studied solid lubricant valued for its low friction and layered structure. However, its application as a durable coating remains constrained by poor adhesion to metal substrates and limited wear resistance under sliding. This dissertation presents a systematic approach to overcoming these limitations by integrating deposition process optimization with surface chemistry modification to develop scalable, high-performance graphite coatings. Unlike many prior studies that focus on polished or idealized surfaces, this work targets steel substrates with elevated roughness levels (Sa ≥ 1 μm), aligning with conditions found in practical engineering components. The first phase of research begins by …

Expanding Access To School-Based Oral Health Services In North Dakota: Revisiting Seal!Nd Eligibility Criteria, Nishat Sultana, Shawnda Schroeder
Indigenous Health Faculty Publications
The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services Oral Health Program (OHP) implements the SEAL!ND school-based sealant initiative to provide preventive oral health services such as dental sealants, fluoride varnish, and dental screenings in schools across the state. Federal funding guidelines currently require programs to target schools where 50% or more of students participate in the Free or Reduced-Price Lunch (FRPL) program. While this criterion identifies high-need schools, it inadvertently excludes larger schools with substantial absolute numbers of low-income children. This brief examines the potential impact of two policy recommendations.

Shielding Freedoms: State Noncooperation In Hunts For Evidence And People, Mary D. Fan
Shielding Freedoms: State Noncooperation In Hunts For Evidence And People, Mary D. Fan
Washington Law Review
The nation is fracturing into a patchwork of rights and punishment. What some states and localities safeguard as rights, other jurisdictions are criminalizing and punishing. As the divides in rights and punishment deepen, some states are becoming sanctuaries for freedoms penalized elsewhere and enacting shield laws prohibiting cooperation with criminalization and punishment states. A prime example is shield laws protecting people seeking to exercise reproductive rights or obtain gender-affirming care. Major jurisdictions for healthcare and technology-related businesses, such as Washington, California, New York, and Massachusetts, have enacted shield laws that prohibit law enforcement and companies from complying with subpoenas seeking …

Integrated Pest Management Adoption, Pesticide Handling And Knowledge Gaps Among Cotton Farmers In Tanzania: Implications For Human And Environmental Health, Sospeter Jibunge Charles
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
The global demand for cotton has risen significantly due to its extensive use in the textile and manufacturing industries, making it one of the most valuable cash crops worldwide. However, this growing demand for cotton production is severely threatened by the currently emerging pests which are intensified by the occurring of climate change and variability. As a result, many smallholder farmers have increasingly turned to chemical pesticides use to control the pests and maintain cotton production. But, while pesticides are effective in controlling pests and improving yields, their improper use and mismanagement pose serious risks to human health and the …
A Comparison Of Fixed And Repetitive Models During Imitation Training In Children With Developmental Delays In A School Setting, Laci Fletcher
A Comparison Of Fixed And Repetitive Models During Imitation Training In Children With Developmental Delays In A School Setting, Laci Fletcher
Theses
Imitation training is commonly recommended in applied behavior analytic literature to address deficits in imitative skills. Few studies have directly compared imitative models to identify the most efficient and effective teaching arrangement to facilitate imitative skills (Deshai & Vollmer, 2019; Halbur et al., 2023). Previous results are inconclusive, and the authors recommended further research comparing the effect of fixed and repetitive models. Therefore, the present study was a replication of Halbur et al. (2023) and addressed limitations suggested by the authors. We examined whether components of imitative models affected the efficiency of the model type and reduced faulty stimulus control …

The Case For Selective Non-Transparency In Ai-Mediated Work: A Workers Rights Framework, Daniel Plate, James Hutson
The Case For Selective Non-Transparency In Ai-Mediated Work: A Workers Rights Framework, Daniel Plate, James Hutson
Faculty Scholarship
This article advances a labor rights argument for selective non-transparency in AI-mediated work, framed through educational labor yet generalizable across the United States. The central claim asserts that blanket requirements to disclose all AI-assisted methods reconfigure managerial power by converting process knowledge into a surveillance substrate, thereby diminishing autonomy, chilling professional judgment, and enabling rapid deskilling. Synthesizing U.S. labor and privacy frameworks—especially interpretations of the National Labor Relations Act regarding electronic monitoring—alongside emerging state initiatives on automated decision systems, the analysis demonstrates how expansive process transparency risks infringing protected concerted activity while normalizing function creep in algorithmic management. Empirical literature …
Adsorption-Based Electrochemical Assay For Nucleic Acid Detection On 2d Nanomaterials, Prabhangshu Kumer Das
Adsorption-Based Electrochemical Assay For Nucleic Acid Detection On 2d Nanomaterials, Prabhangshu Kumer Das
Dissertations
Electrochemical biosensing based on the adsorption of nucleic acids onto two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials offers distinct advantages over conventional techniques, including enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and simplified probe immobilization. Significant efforts have been directed toward developing sensing platforms that exploit the high surface area and unique physicochemical properties of materials such as graphene oxide (GO) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) to achieve efficient signal transduction. This adsorption-based approach eliminates the need for complex surface modifications or labeling, as nucleic acids interact with 2D surfaces through π–π stacking, van der Waals forces, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interactions, and ion bridging. The efficiency of nucleic acid immobilization …
Freedom Of Expression In Next-Generation Computing, Brittan Heller
Freedom Of Expression In Next-Generation Computing, Brittan Heller
UC Law Journal
Extended reality (XR)—the integration of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies—creates immersive, embodied, and behaviorally integrated forms of communication that challenge traditional understandings of freedom of expression. While XR offers new opportunities for creativity, civic engagement, and cross-cultural participation, its immersive nature introduces risks of censorship, surveillance, biometric profiling, algorithmic manipulation, and inequitable access.
This Article situates XR within the framework of European human rights law. It begins by identifying the technical and psychological features that distinguish XR from conventional platforms, particularly presence, immersion, and embodiment, which transform speech into multisensory and interactive experiences. It then evaluates how existing legal …
