Gamification and interactive technology have shown promise in enhancing upper-limb stroke rehabilitation by improving patient engagement and motor recovery. However, how to design for patients’ motivation in game-based rehabilitation remains underexplored. This study conducts a scoping review of the game-based rehabilitation literature (2010–2025), with a focus on gamified goal setting, to understand how rehabilitation goals are integrated into game mechanics. Drawing on Yu-kai Chou’s Octalysis Framework, we analyze and discuss how goals can be designed in game-based rehabilitation to influence patient motivation and adherence. This research presents an intelligent approach to designing an inclusive social assistance systemy. The study employs a combination of literature analysis, in-depth interviews, and quantitative surveys to explore user needs. First, the KANO model was used to identify three attributes—essential, expected, and delightful—which are mapped onto five dimensions of social support: contextual and subjective, emotional and cultural, tools, information, and evaluation support. This study explores the integration of visual principles into traditional Taiwanese woodcarving pedagogy through Shih Zhen-Yang’s “Six Foundational Woodcarving Drills for Beginners.” Drawing from two instructional programs, the research employs participatory observation and semi-structured interviews to compare learning outcomes before and after the introduction of visual principles. were introduced. Findings indicate that incorporating visual guidance improved learners’ spatial perception, execution accuracy, and overall fluency in carving. This case study presents a speculative co-design approach in which healthcare professionals employ real news articles and AI-generated content (AIGC) as stimuli in a design thinking workshop to explore improvements in hospital discharge services for elderly patients. Arranging furniture in a new empty room is a common creative decision-making activity that requires creative thinking and is characterised by a “trial and error” process. This paper reports results from two studies designed to explore consumers’ creativity in a desktop web-based virtual environment through a domain-specific task. The findings of study 1 highlighted differences in consumers' creative processes when exposed to different constraints in a consumption context (n = 30). This paper examines how intercultural co-design can facilitate material meaning-making through narrative-based design approaches. Focusing on a five-day workshop conducted between a Japanese material innovation company and an Indian design school, the study explores how participants engaged in collaborative storytelling and prototyping to reinterpret eri silk—a sustainable and ethically produced silk fiber. Nishijin weaving is one of Japan’s most renowned traditional textile practices, originating over 560 years ago when weaving artisans regrouped in Kyoto’s Nishijin district. Since then, its techniques have been continuously inherited and adapted through successive cycles of transformation and decline. Understanding interaction between the coach and learner is pivotal in fitness training, yet most fitness technologies emphasize functional metrics over the dynamics of human interaction. To inform the design of more interaction-aware wearable coaching systems, we examined how instructional exchanges unfold during squat training, an activity that requires frequent feedback. This research explores how immersive virtual reality (VR) storytelling can foster empathy toward people living with dementia. Developed through a Research through Design (RtD) approach, the project simulates symptoms such as disorientation, memory loss, and language disruption using symbolic interaction and narrative fragmentation. A hybrid narrative structure combines fictional sequences with real-life audio testimony. User evaluations revealed that while immersive metaphors effectively conveyed confusion and emotional vulnerability, the inclusion of authentic voices significantly deepened empathic engagement. The communities of knowledge and practice have faced challenges in understanding the emotion- driven, nonlinear travel behaviours of Generation Z (Gen Z) travellers when developing smart tourism design solutions. To tackle this issue, our study conducted fourteen in-depth interviews with Gen Z participants, revealing a “privacy-expression paradox.” Gen Z travellers are eager to showcase their personal travel experiences creatively; however, they also wish to maintain privacy boundaries within their generation. This study investigates the emotional limitations of current seating products in care home common areas and proposes an emotion-centred design framework to enhance the sitting experience of residents with dementia (RwDs). Drawing from a review of relevant literature, the study identifies four key limitations in existing seating design: (1) a lack of emotional safety and sensory comfort; (2) insufficient support for interpersonal interaction; (3) failure to evoke familiarity and personal memory; and (4) poor integration within communal spaces and care routines. This study investigates older adults' perceptions, expectations, and concerns regarding Virtual Reality (VR)-based grocery shopping, with the intention of exploring both barriers and opportunities within virtual retail environments and obtaining design insights towards an age-friendly VR shopping platform. Using a mixed-method approach, that includes VR trials, interviews, observations, and focus groups, this study identifies key opportunities and limitations of VR shopping for aged 65+ customers. This paper focuses on doburoku, a traditional handmade alcoholic rice brew that has long been prepared in households in the Senboku region of Akita Prefecture, Japan. Through interviews with elderly women, it aims to clarify what meanings the brewing, storage, and sharing of doburoku within the community have held for local residents’ lives, and in what specific ways these practices have contributed to the making of everyday life in the region. This paper introduces MuSE (Multispecies Sensory Engagement), an interactive silicone bioreactor designed to create emotional bonds between humans and kombucha SCOBY microorganisms. Guided by a More-than-Human-Centered-Design (MtHCD) and Research through Design (RtD) framework, this project applies the concepts of exposure therapy and embodied cognition to biology-based HCI, using an auto-ethnographic approach to explore how sensory interactions can shift human perceptions of less relatable life forms. MuSE translates the microorganisms health into sensory cues, creating opportunities for users to engage in caretaking and build empathy through light, movement and touch. Text-to-Image (TTI) generators are becoming widely used and are often promoted as “democratizing” the making of images, independently of the skill set of the user. However, relatively little is known about whether people with different educational backgrounds, skill sets, and literacies use these tools differently, or how these backgrounds influence the quality of the results. In this article, we investigate the impact of Visual Literacy (VL), AI Literacy (AIL), and Prompt Engineering Literacy (PEL) on prompt use.
