Inverse Problem In The Large Momentum Effective Theory Framework, Herve Dutrieux, Joe Karpie, Christopher J. Monahan, Kostas Orginos, Anatoly Radyushkin, David Richards, Savvas Zafeiropoulos

Physics Faculty Publications

One proposal to compute parton distributions from first principles is the large momentum effective theory (LaMET), which requires the Fourier transform of matrix elements computed nonperturbatively. Lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) provides calculations of these matrix elements over a finite range of Fourier harmonics that are often noisy or unreliable in the largest computed harmonics. It has been suggested that enforcing an exponential decay of the missing harmonics helps alleviate this issue. Using nonperturbative data, we show that the uncertainty introduced by this inverse problem in a realistic setup remains significant without very restrictive assumptions, and that the importance of the …

Environmental Protection In War: Beyond Humans And Nature, Alexandra Huneeus, Pablo Rueda-Saiz Jan 2026

Environmental Protection In War: Beyond Humans And Nature, Alexandra Huneeus, Pablo Rueda-Saiz

Articles

War is not just a human tragedy-it is an environmental catastrophe. Across the globe, armed conflicts leave behind oil-slickened rivers, poisoned soils, and forests reduced to barren landscapes. These harms last for generations, but they are not borne equally. The peoples who live most intimately with the land-drawing from it food, water, culture, and identity-suffer the most enduring losses. Their very existence as a people may be put at risk.

This Article asks: How have the laws of war addressed environmental destruction, and, more specifically, what protection do they afford to communities whose very existence is bound to the places …

Hospitals must continue to focus on the reduction of nurse turnover and proactively address underlying causes of nurse dissatisfaction. Increased workload has a negative impact on job satisfaction. The documentation requirements alone are considered a top indicator of nurse workload and take a significant amount of time away from …

Mental Health Screening And Referral For Adults Experiencing Homelessness, Jennifer Lee Ramsey Jan 2026

Mental Health Screening And Referral For Adults Experiencing Homelessness, Jennifer Lee Ramsey

Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses

Mental health disorders affect 26–50% of the 541,484 adults experiencing homelessness in the United States, with a bidirectional relationship between homelessness and mental illness that perpetuate each other, reinforcing difficulties maintaining housing and employment, straining relationships, worsening psychiatric symptoms, and increasing barriers to care. (Nilsson et al., 2024; U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 2023; Fazel et al., 2014; National Coalition for the Homeless, 2017; Saldua, 2024).This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addresses these disparities by developing and implementing a mental health screening and referral program at a homeless shelter. Cryogenic Sloshing In Aircraft Fuel Tanks, Stuart Colville Jan 2026

Cryogenic Sloshing In Aircraft Fuel Tanks, Stuart Colville

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics Theses

Liquid sloshing in next-generation sub-cooled liquid hydrogen aircraft fuel tanks can induce rapid ullage pressure and temperature drops, potentially causing cavitation in cryogenic pumping systems and compromising fuel delivery systems. Sloshing events may be initiated during taxiing, take-off, landing, and turbulence, with large accelerations producing highly non-linear liquid motion and wave-breaking conditions. Understanding such phenomena is essential for cryogenic hydrogen fuel tank design and certification for next generation aircraft.A systematic experimental methodology was employed to investigate both the wave kinematic and thermodynamic aspects of sloshing. Initial water–air experiments in a simplified horizontal circular tank were conducted to validate measurement techniques, …

A Photographic Exploration Of Humboldt's Coastal Lagoons, Aldaron Laird

Trade & Scholarly Monographs

This visually stunning book shows the same meticulous artistry that Aldaron displayed when depicting Wigi, but it shows places so different from Humboldt Bay that they seem to be of a different world. And in a sense they are, for the imprints of modern Humboldt County are here much less frequent and far, far gentler. Instead, we see the land of the Coastal Yuroks, which in many places is little changed from what it was like before the arrival of the Whites a hundred and seventy-five years ago. The only buildings we see are those of the traditional Yurok style, …

The Paradox Of Matriliny: Cultural Authority And The Political Marginalization Of Women In Meghalaya, Kasturi Bharadwaj Jan 2026

The Paradox Of Matriliny: Cultural Authority And The Political Marginalization Of Women In Meghalaya, Kasturi Bharadwaj

Journal of International Women's Studies

The global discourse on gender equality gained momentum after the 1975 United Nations World Conference on Women. It continued through a series of international initiatives and culminated in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which emphasized women’s rights and their participation in political, social, and economic life. Despite these normative commitments at the international level, women’s political participation and representation within administrative and decision-making structures continue to be uneven, limited, and structurally constrained across many societies. In this context, the study investigates the political participation and representation of women in Meghalaya, a tribal state in Northeast India characterized by …

Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization: Diagnosis, Management, And Treatment, Giovana Anovazzi Medeiros Dds, Msc, Phd, Bahareh Enghiad Dmd, James R. Boynton Dds, Ms Jan 2026

Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization: Diagnosis, Management, And Treatment, Giovana Anovazzi Medeiros Dds, Msc, Phd, Bahareh Enghiad Dmd, James R. Boynton Dds, Ms

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is a qualitative developmental enamel defect affecting at least one permanent first molar. Characterized by high porosity and reduced mineral content, MIH leads to hypersensitivity, post-eruptive breakdown, and increased caries susceptibility. The etiology is multifactorial, typically occurring between birth and four years of age. Management depends on severity, ranging from topical fluorides and sealants for mild cases to stainless-steel crowns or extractions for severe instances. Because porous enamel facilitates bacterial penetration and pulpal inflammation, achieving effective local anesthesia is often difficult, necessitating individualized behavioral management and early intervention to preserve tooth structure.

Alexander-Bloch, Evdokia Anagnostou, Kevin M. Anderson, Ariosky Areces-Gonzalez, John Blangero

Human Genetics Publications

Motivation There is growing interest in estimating population reference ranges across age and sex to better identify atypical clinically-relevant measurements throughout the lifespan. For this task, the World Health Organization recommends using Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale, and Shape (GAMLSS), which can model non-linear growth trajectories under complex distributions that address the heterogeneity in human populations. Fitting GAMLSS models requires large, generalizable sample sizes, especially for accurate estimation of extreme quantiles, but obtaining such multi-site data can be challenging due to privacy concerns and practical considerations. In settings where patient data cannot be shared, privacy-preserving distributed algorithms for federated …

Home Rule, Dillon’S Rule, And The Legal Shape Of Local Governance, Bradon J. Rothschild Jan 2026

Home Rule, Dillon’S Rule, And The Legal Shape Of Local Governance, Bradon J. Rothschild

National Policy Consensus Center Publications

Public policy in common law democracies such as the United States is dictated by many factors, which you might call streams or strands. While on the one hand the vox populi may insist on a certain action, governing coalitions of political leaders may deign another direction, or policy researchers may conclude a third option is better yet. All such options, however, are constrained by the legal parameters of governance as defined by constitutional, statutory, and case (jurisprudence, or stare decisis) law. Where these streams meet, public policy actions which are popularly supported, politically advantageous, technically effective, and (importantly) legal may …

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This national survey evaluates how pediatric dentists manage patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While most practitioners collect data on oral hygiene and verbal communication, fewer assess social interaction or sensitivity-related characteristics. The study suggests using supplemental intake forms to plan appointments based on individual needs and functioning levels. Key accommodations reported include behavior guidance, modified appointment times, and operatory adjustments. Results indicate that increased professional experience with ASD correlates with more comprehensive data collection and a higher perceived value of that information. Ultimately, partnering with parents is vital for creating successful dental encounters for children with ASD.

Is Being A Shareholder ‘In Name Only’ A Problem?, Daniel Schulte Jd Jan 2026

Is Being A Shareholder ‘In Name Only’ A Problem?, Daniel Schulte Jd

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This column addresses the legal risks for Michigan dentists entering "shareholder in name only" agreements with non-dentist entities. Michigan law requires dental practices to be owned by licensed dentists to ensure professional control over public healthcare. Arrangements where management companies or manufacturers can reclaim stock for a nominal fee effectively strip the dentist of true ownership. This lack of control can lead to ethical conflicts, such as pressure to sell specific appliances regardless of professional judgment. Engaging in such schemes may endanger a dentist's license by thwarting state laws intended to protect clinical independence.
