Structure-Conduct-Performance Analysis Of The Sports Industry In The United States, Luisa Hoffmann Araujo
Structure-Conduct-Performance Analysis Of The Sports Industry In The United States, Luisa Hoffmann Araujo
Theses & ETDs
This study examines the U.S. professional sports industry through the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) framework, which is a model commonly used to analyze how a market organization (structure) affects a firm’s behavior and its economic performance. When applying this analytical framework to the sports sector in the United States, it is possible to see with more clarity how the competition develops, the firm’s strategic decisions, and how they perform in the market. The data and research from this study were retrieved from secondary data sources, where it was possible to analyze academic literature, industry performance reports, and financial publications to deepen the …
Empowering Paraeducators: A Mixed Methods Study Of Targeted Paraeducator Training In Trauma-Informed And Restorative Practices, Amy K. Stevenson
Empowering Paraeducators: A Mixed Methods Study Of Targeted Paraeducator Training In Trauma-Informed And Restorative Practices, Amy K. Stevenson
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)
This mixed-methods study, grounded in Improvement Science, examines behavioral support provided by paraeducators, sometimes referred to as paraprofessionals, to students who receive special education services. Districts employ paraeducators to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with a range of disabilities. Often, paraeducators possess limited skills and receive little training to provide effective support to students. Additionally, paraeducators remain among the lowest-paid employees in school districts. Research suggests that targeted professional development, particularly whole-group instruction, followed by coaching, modeling, and feedback, can improve both paraeducator implementation fidelity and student outcomes. Five paraeducators working in a program serving elementary students with …

Eat My Love:Finding Truth In Fairytales Through Filmmaking, Calypso Camacho
Theses & ETDs
This thesis is both a creative project and a critical investigation into the dissolving boundary between art shaping life and life shaping art in filmmaking. The creative project at its center is EAT MY LOVE, a short film adaptation of the Russian folk tale The Maiden Tsar (Царь-Девица). It is a fairytale set in the modern world that uses elements of surrealism and magical realism, and unexpectedly became a camouflaged documentary. Paralleling EAT MY LOVE’s storytelling rhythm, this thesis is divided into three segments: pre-production, production, and post-production. Each segment documents the corresponding step in the filmmaking process and explores …

Climate Change As A Security Interest: A Novel Defense In Fossil Fuel Investment Arbitration, Nabil Kapasi
Chicago Journal of International Law
Thousands of international investment and trade agreements contain provisions protecting investments made by parties from the signatory states. One such provision is Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS), a mechanism allowing foreign investors to sue host states in arbitration for treaty violations. Fossil fuel investors are increasingly utilizing ISDS successfully to hold states liable for climate action; arbitral tribunals are awarding large compensations to these investors when states deny them permits for upstream activities or enact phase-out policies attempting to ban fossil fuel consumption. These awards impose heavy burdens on states while simultaneously deterring climate action by creating fears of liability. This …

Esg-Driven Traceability Adoption: An Impact Thinking Multi-Dimensional Framework For The Fashion And Textile Industry, María Tamames Sobrino, David Antonio Rosas Espín, Jaime Gisbert-Payá
Artículos científicos
This study introduces an Impact Thinking Approach (ITA) as a strategic framework to strengthen traceability implementation in the fashion and textile industry. The research examines how ESG impact dimensions shape sustainable strategy definition and how traceability can act as a strategic enabler rather than a mere compliance tool. A mixed-method design combining a narrative literature review, content analysis of 69 sustainability sources, and a two-round Delphi study with 19 experts was employed to identify, evaluate, and prioritize impact drivers related to traceability adoption. The resulting ITA framework connects regulatory requirements, impact materiality, and traceability demands into a unified structure that …

More Than A Meal: What Death Row Last Meals Reveal About Identity, Power, And Humanity, Mackenzie Helbig
More Than A Meal: What Death Row Last Meals Reveal About Identity, Power, And Humanity, Mackenzie Helbig
Honors Theses - Providence Campus
Last meals on death row may appear to be a small or insignificant part of the execution process, but they can reveal deeper meaning about the individuals who choose them and the system that allows them. Before execution, inmates are often given the opportunity to request a final meal. While this moment is brief, it can carry emotional, cultural, and symbolic meaning. This study explores what last meals reveal about identity, mental state, and personal control in a highly controlled environment.
Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research analyzes last meal records, academic studies, and inmate reports to identify recurring …

From Sacred Practice To Social Identity: The Historical Evolution Of Vegetarianism Through Religion, Psychology, And Social Norms, Makenna Mae Seymour
Honors Theses – Charlotte Campus
This research paper aims to explore how the vegetarian diet has evolved throughout history through lenses of religion and social psychology. Using primary and secondary academic resources, over thirty resources were evaluated, including books and journal articles, using key words, such as “vegetarian,” “attitudes,” and “social norms.” The beginnings of vegetarianism were established through religious practices, but social norms from families and friends, as well as personal gain reasons, are the driving factors that have maintained the vegetarian diet over time. Vegetarianism began from Pythagoras and his cult in the 600s BC, but it grew once Hinduism and Jainism adopted …
Effects Of Expropriation Of Private Real Estate For Public Benefit In Saudi Law And Islamic Law, Hayat Mohammadali Hassan Nimir
Effects Of Expropriation Of Private Real Estate For Public Benefit In Saudi Law And Islamic Law, Hayat Mohammadali Hassan Nimir
Theses and Dissertations
The expropriation of private real estate for public benefit represents one of the most sensitive and complex legal issues, as it directly intersects with the protection of individual ownership rights while simultaneously addressing the demands of public interest and state development. This research provides a comprehensive analytical study of the legal framework governing expropriation in Saudi Arabia, examining both historical and contemporary legislation, while assessing its consistency with the objectives of Islamic Sharia, which grants strong protection to ownership rights but allows their restriction under strict conditions to serve genuine public needs.
The dissertation explores the theoretical foundations of property …
Striving To Thrive: Balancing Digital Health Innovation And Patient Protection Under Thailand’S Legal Framework, Thidarat Liamsomboon
Striving To Thrive: Balancing Digital Health Innovation And Patient Protection Under Thailand’S Legal Framework, Thidarat Liamsomboon
Theses and Dissertations
The digitalization of health care has fundamentally transformed how health care services are accessed, delivered, and experienced worldwide. Telemedicine, artificial intelligence–assisted diagnostics, electronic health records, wearables, and mobile health applications are no longer novelties, but have become a substantial part of a modern clinical practice. Although these technologies offer great prospects for making health care more accessible, reducing administrative burden, and improving the quality of care, they also pose significant legal and regulatory challenges. The rate of technological development has far outpaced Thailand’s existing legal frameworks for regulating medical practice, professional accountability, and patient protection. This regulatory “lag” has generated …
Understanding The Underutilization Of The Campus Recreation Facility: A Mixed-Methods Examination Of Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction, Social Physique Anxiety, Sense Of Community, And Physical Environment Barriers, Caden M. Pfingsten
Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice
Campus recreation facilities have been identified as important contributors to student well-being, academic persistence, and institutional belonging. Despite these documented benefits, a persistent gap exists between available services and actual student utilization at many institutions. This study examined the psychological, social, and environmental factors associated with students' underutilization of the Campus Recreation Facility (CRF) at a mid-sized Midwestern public university in favor of paid off-campus commercial gym memberships.
Using a cross-sectional survey design, 169 students completed a battery of validated and researcher-adapted instruments assessing basic psychological need satisfaction (autonomy, competence, and relatedness), Sense of Community, and social physique anxiety across …
Implementing An Electronic Referral System In A Community Mental Health Clinic To Streamline Patient Care: An Evidence-Based Quality Improvement Project, Judith Ngante
Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice
Inefficient referral processes in community mental health clinics contribute to delayed access to care, fragmented communication, and increased administrative burden. Traditional referral methods, including phone, fax, and paper-based systems, often result in prolonged wait times and documentation errors, negatively impacting patient outcomes. Evidence supports electronic referral (e-referral) systems as effective tools for improving care coordination, reducing delays, and enhancing provider satisfaction. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project aimed to implement an e-referral system in a community mental health clinic in metropolitan Texas to streamline patient care and reduce referral wait times by at least 30% over a …

This time last year, I wrote that the New Year bought the UK very cold weather (down to -5C or 23F here but colder in other parts of the UK). The same thing has happened this year – our lowest in the UK West Midlands was -6C overnight but it was -12C in other places.
This is such a contrast to the weather the cadets found in Florida. My father arrived in October 1941 and spent Christmas at Fort Myers Beach where he wrote that the temperature reached 95F (35C). Groups of cadets went to Miami Beach at weekends to …

Hallucinogen Use Prevalence And Comorbidities, Mj Kasprzak
Student Research Design & Innovation Symposium
While hallucinogens are now being used in mental health treatment, research examining recreational hallucinogen use over time, especially in relation to mental health comorbidities and demographic disparities, remains limited. This study aims to examine hallucinogen use trends over time among young adults, with a specific focus on demographic disparities and mental health comorbidities. This was an analysis of the 2022 and 2024 Rhode Island Young Adult Surveys, cross-sectional, self-report surveys administered to n=2,030 adults aged 18-25 who live in Rhode Island for at least part of the year. Among the 2,030 respondents, 9.9% reported hallucinogen use. The prevalence increased from …

Adsorptive Gas Sensor Response Forecasting To Enable Breath-By-Breath Analysis, Samuel Bellaire, Samir Ahmed Rawashdeh, Kirby P. Mayer, Jamie L. Sturgill
Physical Therapy Faculty Publications
MOS gas sensors have proven to be useful in electronic noses, which utilize these sensors to detect volatile organic compounds in human breath to detect various lung diseases. Unfortunately, the long settling time of MOS gas sensors is ill-suited to measuring human breath, where complete breathing cycles are often shorter than 5 s. Existing studies circumvent this limitation by collecting gas samples and injecting them into a sealed chamber to react with the sensors. However, it would be convenient if breath-by-breath analysis could be conducted without the need to store breath samples. To accomplish this, we present a novel forecasting …

Exploring The Influence Of Quadriceps Peak Torque And Rate Of Torque Development On Running Mechanics After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction, Amit M. Gohil, Gregory S. Hawk, Darren L. Johnson, Christopher S. Fry, Brian W. Noehren
Physical Therapy Faculty Publications
Background: After anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), chronic changes in knee joint biomechanics during higher level tasks, such as running, may negatively impact long-term knee joint health. Among the factors that contribute to these chronic changes, the influence of quadriceps strength on knee joint biomechanics during running is not well understood. Hypothesis: Higher involved limb quadriceps strength (peak torque and rate of torque development [RTD]) and limb symmetry index (LSI) will be positively associated with greater peak knee flexion angle and peak knee extensor moment during running. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Level of Evidence: Level 3. Methods: Peak knee extensor …
The Path To Abundance: The Legal, Policy, And Political Challenges Of An Abundance Agenda, Eric Biber
The Path To Abundance: The Legal, Policy, And Political Challenges Of An Abundance Agenda, Eric Biber
William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review
A range of public intellectuals and academics have argued that America is increasingly unable to advance major projects, such as housing, renewable energy, and innovation, because of legal obstacles such as judicial review and regulatory requirements. In response, the abundance movement has called for legal reforms to speed up project development. The abundance movement has identified real problems that require solutions. Unfortunately, the movement also faces political and legal challenges as well. Reform will require difficult tradeoffs, which will be politically difficult. Abundance reforms will likely not be politically popular, and will be particularly hard to implement in a polarized …

William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review
This Article explores the emerging rights of nature movement as a radical departure from traditional environmental approaches, grounded in a “new consciousness” that challenges the anthropocentric world-view. The Article sets the stage for a defense of the rights of nature by providing a comprehensive critique of the current model of economic development, primarily focused on GDP, which has proven detrimental to environmental health by neglecting broader values; the Article also highlights alternative measures adopted by entities like the UN and EU that incorporate factors like happiness. Rights of nature builds upon that foundation for a broader understanding of development and …
