Disrupted Circadian Rhythms Affect Hallmark Pathologies In Alzheimer’S Disease-Related Mouse Models, Valeria Buzinova Jan 2026

Disrupted Circadian Rhythms Affect Hallmark Pathologies In Alzheimer’S Disease-Related Mouse Models, Valeria Buzinova

Theses and Dissertations--Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry

Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disease with two hallmark pathologies: extracellular amyloid-b (Ab) and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). Ab is proteolytically processed from amyloid precursor protein (APP) by b-secretase and g-secretase as a monomeric peptide prone to aggregation. Eventually, the aggregate-prone monomers will form dense plaques that are difficult to break down and remove. These plaques begin to deposit into the cortex decades prior to the formation of NFTs and the onset of cognitive decline. NFTs are comprised of hyper-phosphorylated tau. Tau is a protein that serves to promote and stabilize the formation of microtubules. The formation of …

The Physiological And Psychological Effects Of Social Media Addiction: A Mixed Methods Study, Ella Roper Jan 2026

The Physiological And Psychological Effects Of Social Media Addiction: A Mixed Methods Study, Ella Roper

2026 Research Poster Competition

Social media is a worldwide phenomenon that has taken the world by storm; individuals, multimillion dollar companies, hospitals and universities alike are all similar in that there is a good chance they have a social media presence. Needless to say, there are many benefits of social media including connection and networking, however there are also consequences. My study focuses on one of the consequences, social media addiction, in hopes of enlightening individuals to the risks of social media and hopefully inspiring systematic change to make the future of social media a little less risky. I am using a scale from …

Examining Institutional And Personal Barriers To Women's Participation In The U.S. Foreign Service, Isabella Thompson Jan 2026

Examining Institutional And Personal Barriers To Women's Participation In The U.S. Foreign Service, Isabella Thompson

2026 Research Poster Competition

Gender equality and equal representation for women have become heavily debated topics in the global community over the last few decades. Some countries have constitutional policies in place that promote gender equality, while others have extreme gaps between the rights of men and women. One area commonly used to assess how far a country has progressed toward gender equality is women’s representation in government and politics. A growing body of scholarly research in International Relations and Foreign Policy Analysis examines the representation of women in foreign policy and diplomacy. Descriptive statistics show wide gaps between countries in women’s representation in …

Rural Women And Intimate Partner Violence: A Geographical Analysis Of Victim Service Providers In The Southern United States, Natalie O'Brien Jan 2026

Rural Women And Intimate Partner Violence: A Geographical Analysis Of Victim Service Providers In The Southern United States, Natalie O'Brien

2026 Research Poster Competition

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a persistent public safety and public health issue in the United States. Women in rural areas, particularly in the Southern United States, experience disproportionately high levels of frequency and severity. Prior research shows that as communities become more rural, survivors face greater risks of severe violence alongside fewer available support services. This study examines how geographic location shapes help-seeking behaviors and access to victim service providers among adult IPV survivors, with particular attention to differences between rural, suburban, and urban areas in the South. Using nationally representative data from the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) …

Whose Responsibility Is It: Corporate Ethics And Supply Chain Accountability In The Uyghur Crisis, Katelyn Evans Jan 2026

Whose Responsibility Is It: Corporate Ethics And Supply Chain Accountability In The Uyghur Crisis, Katelyn Evans

2026 Research Poster Competition

Global supply chains have become increasingly complex, making it difficult to identify and prevent unethical labor practices embedded within everyday consumer goods. In recent years, attention has been directed toward the use of Uyghur forced labor in China, particularly within the fashion and automotive industries. While governments and corporations have faced growing scrutiny, less is known about how consumers perceive responsibility for unethical sourcing and how unethical practices influence their purchasing behavior. This research seeks to examine the question: Whose responsibility is it to address unethical practices in global supply chains? Specifically, the study evaluates perceptions of responsibility across three …

Feminist Aesthetics: The Early Ms. Years And Second-Wave Body Politics, Meghan Lucas Jan 2026

Feminist Aesthetics: The Early Ms. Years And Second-Wave Body Politics, Meghan Lucas

2026 Research Poster Competition

Despite its tremendous impact on both second-wave feminist organizing and women's political consciousness, Ms. magazine remains understudied by scholars interested in emergent feminist consumers and emergent feminist citizens. This study aims to fill the gap in scholarship around late 20th century periodical studies by offering content analysis of the first two years of Ms., July 1972 to June 1974 to offer a content analysis of second-wave feminism's foray into magazine culture and understand how Ms. articulated feminist politics, feminist writing, and women's consumer power to raise women’s consciousness. My research was focused on the archival issues from July 1972 to …

Building Mental Health Literacy: The Impact Of Youth Mental Health First Aid On Emerging Youth Professionals, Burgin Rome Jan 2026

Building Mental Health Literacy: The Impact Of Youth Mental Health First Aid On Emerging Youth Professionals, Burgin Rome

2026 Research Poster Competition

Nearly half of individuals in the United States will experience a mental health disorder during their lifetime, with many symptoms first emerging in childhood or adolescence. Adolescence is a critical developmental period characterized by emotional, social, and psychological changes that increase vulnerability to mental health challenges. Although public awareness of mental health has grown, stigma and societal taboos continue to limit open dialogue and delay intervention. As a result, many young people experience a significant gap between the onset of symptoms and receipt of professional support, which can worsen mental health concerns and contribute to long-term consequences that persist into …

The Log Cabin | Public Perception And Mediated Reality (1840 – 1980), Aspen Regan Jan 2026

The Log Cabin | Public Perception And Mediated Reality (1840 – 1980), Aspen Regan

2026 Research Poster Competition

This capstone examines the evolution of the log cabin from 1840 to 1980. At its core, the project questions the legacy of the log cabin from its origins as simply being a traditional dwelling typology to its establishment as a cultural icon or rather, an enduring vessel foundational to the American Dream and ideals of self-reliance, freedom, and individualism deep within the heart of American culture. Various case studies, traditional literature review, and archival analysis was required to complete and produce a comprehensive study of the log cabin and its history in this context, culminating into three distinct chapters. Chapter …

Investigating Changes In White Blood Cell Composition In Wild Hosts In Response To Viral Infection, Anna Bolding Jan 2026

Investigating Changes In White Blood Cell Composition In Wild Hosts In Response To Viral Infection, Anna Bolding

2026 Research Poster Competition

Reservoir hosts play a critical role in the persistence and spillover of zoonotic pathogens. Upon infection, reservoir hosts can shed viral loads sufficient for transmission and spillover often without displaying apparent pathogenic effects. Investigating how their immune systems control infection can provide insights into the factors that facilitate spillover events. Understanding the mechanisms that enable these infection characteristics is crucial for informing public health and conservation strategies. Though reservoir hosts’ immune responses are well-documented in controlled laboratory settings, these studies are not representative of natural populations. The bank vole - Puumala hantavirus (PUUV) system is well suited for investigating such …

Temporal Variational Graph Autoencoder For Influenza Evolution, Soumya Chauhan Jan 2026

Temporal Variational Graph Autoencoder For Influenza Evolution, Soumya Chauhan

2026 Research Poster Competition

Frequent mutations in influenza virus surface proteins can increase infectivity while evading human and vaccine immunity, causing seasonal epidemics. The CDC annually evaluates thousands of virus strains to predict mutated sequences likely to be dominant in the next season, which creates a need for methods that better capture how viral mutations evolve over time. In this study, we represent influenza protein sequences as a network-like graph, creating connections if sequences are collected a week apart and only differ by one mutation. This method explicitly considers time information as part of the evolution, while other existing methods analyze mutated sequences without …

Rekindling Hearth: An Investigation And Discussion Of The Traditional And Evolving Roles Of Hearth In Architecture, Ruth Prenzler Jan 2026

Rekindling Hearth: An Investigation And Discussion Of The Traditional And Evolving Roles Of Hearth In Architecture, Ruth Prenzler

2026 Research Poster Competition

This research explores the evolving role of the hearth in domestic architecture, examining its historical significance and its continuing symbolic, spatial, and architectural relevance. Once essential for heat, cooking, and social gathering, the hearth has gradually shifted from a functional necessity to a largely symbolic and nostalgic artifact as a result of technological advancements and changing domestic lifestyles. Despite this functional decline, the hearth persists as a powerful cultural and architectural element, deeply embedded in collective memory and the perception of home. This study reexamines the hearth’s spatial, social, and functional roles through a combined methodology of literature review, theoretical …

Analyzing Educators’ Roles In Preparing Students For Civic Engagement In Arkansas Communities, Mia Hastings Jan 2026

Analyzing Educators’ Roles In Preparing Students For Civic Engagement In Arkansas Communities, Mia Hastings

2026 Research Poster Competition

Individuals aged eighteen to twenty-nine accounted for only thirteen percent of the voting electorate in the 2018 election, despite representing nearly twenty-two percent of the voting age population (Making Young Voters, 2020, p. 3). Although the percentage of students enrolled in at least one high school government course has remained relatively constant since the late 1920s, most state standards, including those in Arkansas, require only a single civics course to graduate (Branson, 2003, p. 3). As a preservice teacher, I am struck by how civic education often focuses on reciting facts about government and political institutions rather than equipping students …

Hostile But Lawful? Examining The Elements Of “True Threats” In Rhetoric Toward Election Officials, Kayleigh Gwiazdowski Jan 2026

Hostile But Lawful? Examining The Elements Of “True Threats” In Rhetoric Toward Election Officials, Kayleigh Gwiazdowski

2026 Research Poster Competition

Threats of violence have become increasingly visible, yet they remain understudied compared to acts of violence themselves. This project examines death threats directed at U.S. election administrators following the 2020 Presidential Election. Drawing on qualitative interviews with 26 current and former U.S. election administrators, I analyzed 580 hostile messages received in the aftermath of the election to understand how threats function as a tool of intimidation and coercion. Messages were examined for markers indicating (1) whether the sender expressed the intent to threaten, (2) whether the language specified a concrete act of violence or identifiable target, and (3) whether a …

Predictors Of Stigma And Their Relation To Mental Health Help-Seeking Attitude In College Students, Esiquil Lara Jan 2026

Predictors Of Stigma And Their Relation To Mental Health Help-Seeking Attitude In College Students, Esiquil Lara

2026 Research Poster Competition

Stigma remains a significant barrier for college students seeking mental health services, yet its predictors and impact are still not fully understood. Mental health problems are a large issue in public health, specifically college age adults are one of the most likely groups to develop such issues. This study examines key factors contributing to stigma and its relationship with help-seeking attitudes among undergraduate college students. We hypothesize that students who identify with minority ethnic groups, identify as male, and who are not seeking a career in mental health services will have higher rates of stigma and therefore be less likely …

Exploring The Lived Experiences Of School-Based Speech-Language Pathologists Following Implementation Of H.R.1 (One Big Beautiful Bill Act), Jenna Burns Jan 2026

Exploring The Lived Experiences Of School-Based Speech-Language Pathologists Following Implementation Of H.R.1 (One Big Beautiful Bill Act), Jenna Burns

2026 Research Poster Competition

Communication is a human right. As such, ASHA’s official Code of Ethics (2023) states that all speech-language pathologists working under the organization’s credentials have a responsibility to provide equitable and accessible care, regardless of socioeconomic status, citizenship status, or place of origin; however, there can be many barriers to the provision of this service, one of the most prominent being policy. Beginning in 2025, federal policy reforms enacted under H.R.1, colloquially known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” have impacted health care access, immigration policy, and educational funding, leading to eventual effects on the services of paraprofessionals in publicly-funded …

Flair- Flow-Level Anomaly Intrustion Recognition, Joseph Dumond Jan 2026

Flair- Flow-Level Anomaly Intrustion Recognition, Joseph Dumond

2026 Research Poster Competition

Industrial control systems (ICS) and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) networks support critical infrastructure such as power generation, water treatment, and manufacturing. As these systems become more connected, they are increasingly exposed to cyber threats. However, many existing intrusion detection approaches rely on detailed packet inspection or supervised machine learning techniques that require labeled attack data and extensive tuning, making them difficult to deploy in real industrial environments.ICS networks typically generate highly regular and predictable communication patterns due to periodic control logic and deterministic device behavior. Because of this structure, abnormal or malicious activity often appears as a disruption to …

Historical Comparison Of Fashion Symbolism: Evaluating Queen Elizabeth Ii, Princess Diana, And Princess Catherine Of Wales, Rebecca O'Dea

2026 Research Poster Competition

It is no secret that appearance is a determining factor of how one is perceived by others. One of the most significant elements of image is the clothes that one wears. Through dress people reveal aspects about themselves; a person’s attire serves as an expression of their intentions, values, and feelings in relation to their surroundings before any actual interaction takes place. The purpose of this study is to explore the phenomenon of the influential element of dress, specifically within royal costume. Within the public spotlight, the reach and impact of appearance accumulate more attraction and influence. This research focuses …

Exploring The Impact Of Age On Traumatic Brain Injury Cause And Recovery In Arkansas: A Retrospective Review, Abby Jones Jan 2026

Exploring The Impact Of Age On Traumatic Brain Injury Cause And Recovery In Arkansas: A Retrospective Review, Abby Jones

2026 Research Poster Competition

Traumatic brain injury remains a major public health concern, and increasing evidence demonstrates the significance of the effect of age in quality of care, diagnosis, and recovery outcomes. In rural states, such as Arkansas, where research has shown a lack of resources and higher fatality rates among persons with TBI, healthcare professionals can become better informed and equipped to optimize recovery and rehabilitation as a result of research efforts to explore the effects of age from the standpoint of cause and recovery (Daugherty et al., 2022). This study was a retrospective analysis involving data covering a two-year period extracted from …

Hybridized-Highway Infrastructures, Will Sutton Jan 2026

Hybridized-Highway Infrastructures, Will Sutton

2026 Research Poster Competition

This research explores highways and their evolving functions through hybrid programming, from the modern era to the present day. As early as 1916, the federal government began funding state construction of the National Highway System. From this point onward, by design, highways became redundant and homogenized networks of automobile movement, crystallizing their function. Despite this, there are global examples of architecturally utilizing space within, above, or below highway infrastructures that hybridize their function beyond vehicular movement. I am currently studying hybridized-highway infrastructures through a literature review that examines them through the lenses of underutilized space associated with highways, the roles …
