In this holdover proceeding against an adult care facility resident, the court granted the tenant's guardian ad litem's post-judgment motion. The motion sought to stay execution of the warrant of eviction. The court stayed the warrant, conditioning its future execution on the landlord proving compliance with Department of Health regulations 18 NYCRR 487.4(m) and 18 NYCRR 487.5(f)(19). These regulations mandate that the landlord make persistent efforts to assist the tenant in securing appropriate alternative placement at a higher level of care, including filing five applications with other facilities.

The Court of Appeals reversed the Appellate Division, upholding the City's 2021 rezoning plan for SoHo/NoHo artist lofts. The plan imposed a one-time fee on landlords for converting Joint Living-Work Quarters for Artists (JLWQA) units to unrestricted residential use. The court held that this fee does not constitute a compensable taking under the Fifth Amendment's Takings Clause. It reasoned that landlords lack a compensable property interest in converting their units to a new, more valuable use, as the fee does not burden their existing property rights or coerce them into relinquishing an interest that the government would otherwise have to …

Background: Nursing shortages and increased workforce turnover have significantly increased nurses’ workloads, thus increasing the risk of burnout and stress, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. A systematic review published in 2019 suggested that resilience could act as a buffer to adversity; however, the factors associated with resilience during and after this global pandemic have not been identified.
Objectives: To identify personal and work-related factors associated with nurse resilience, including the period during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Design: Systematic review.
Data Sources: The search was conducted between January and February 2024 in the following databases: CINAHL Plus, MEDLINE (Ovid), PsycINFO, …

OBJECTIVE: To determine modifiable organizational factors associated with advanced practice RN (APRN) burnout in Magnet®-designated hospitals to guide organizational interventions to improve APRN well-being and retention.
METHODS: Cross-sectional study of work environments of 50 US Magnet hospitals and the associated well-being of 21 855 of their clinicians (APRNs, physician assistants, physicians [MDs], RNs).
RESULTS: Overall, 37%of APRNs experienced high burnout compared with 34% of MDs (P < 0.05) and 49% of RNs (P < 0.001); additionally, 32%of APRNs intended to leave their jobs. APRN burnout was significantly lower in organizations that minimized chaotic working conditions, provided APRNs more control over their workloads, involved APRNs in shared governance, improved clinician and management relations, and improved interprofessional teamwork.
CONCLUSIONS:Well-being and retention of APRNs in Magnet hospitals require their greater engagement in organization processes and systems that improve work environments.

Cell-specific regulation of endogenous G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) is crucial for understanding their roles in physiological processes. We present chemogenetic tools using shield-1-dependent irreversible protein switches to regulate peptide agonist activity. To demonstrate this platform, we engineered chemogenetically regulated pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (cPACAP), which exhibited >15-fold chemical-dependent regulation of endogenous receptor activity. In vivo application of cPACAP allowed neuronal activation via the endogenous receptor for PACAP, engaging neural circuits that control respiratory and feeding behaviors. By integrating cPACAP with transgenic mice, we selectively activated endogenous PACAP receptor signaling in hypocretin-expressing neurons of the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA), revealing …

Posttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy)-based graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis is now standard for matched unrelated donor (MUD) hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Previous studies comparing MUD and haploidentical donor HCT using PTCy were limited in size and follow-up. We therefore performed a registry-based analysis examining the impact of donor type on HCT with PTCy. Adult patients (n = 5873) receiving MUD (n = 1973) or haploidentical (n = 3900) HCT with PTCy for acute leukemia (74.2%) or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS; 25.8%) reported to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research between 2017 and 2021 were included. Primary end points were 3-year …

Induction Of Moderate Dna Damage Enhances Megakaryopoiesis And Platelet Production, Virginia Camacho, Luis Francisco Zirnberger Batista, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
Megakaryocytes (MKs) are large, hematopoietic cells with a polyploid, multilobulated nucleus. Although DNA replication in MKs (endomitosis) is well studied, limited investigations have examined the impact of DNA instability on megakaryopoiesis. Poly-adenosine diphosphate (ADP) ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors are chemotherapeutics that result in accumulation of DNA damage and are commonly associated with thrombocytopenia, presumably mediated through platelet progenitors, MKs. To explore PARP inhibitor-induced thrombocytopenia, we treated mice with the PARP inhibitor niraparib. Although high-dose niraparib treatment led to thrombocytopenia, consistent with clinical observations, lower-dose treatment led to a significant increase in bone marrow MKs, MK progenitors (MkPs), and circulating platelets. …

We present a large-scale study of structural variation (SV) in the Qatari population, based on short-read whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of 6,141 individuals, identifying 153,946 variants across 5 classes reflecting the region's diversity and evolutionary history. Leveraging consanguinity and biobank phenotypes, we identify >180 putative gene knockouts, and use proteomics to show functional consequences in homozygotes. Conversely, 52 genes show significant depletion of homozygous deletions, eight of which cause severe pediatric disease or murine embryonic lethality. Examining phenotypic extremes uncovers several non-exonic homozygous deletions with large effect, including in SPIRE2 (creatinine), MAGI2 (leanness) and a chr19 microRNA cluster (extreme obesity). Further, …

Rangelands are crucial to human well-being, but their ability to provide ecosystem services is threatened. We (1) quantified key ecosystem services provided by rangelands, (2) assessed short- and long-term impacts of fertilization (nutrient addition) and the exclusion of large grazing herbivores with fences (herbivore exclusion) on services, and (3) identified synergies and trade-offs among services. We measured indicators of ecosystem services and plant diversity at 79 sites across six continents in the global Nutrient Network. Short-term herbivore exclusion increased forage quantity and soil fertility, but longer-term herbivore exclusion decreased both along with plant richness and pollination. Nutrient addition improved forage …

Lucy Wortham James And The Gospel Of Wealth: A Case Study Of Female Philanthropy In Rural Missouri During The Progressive Era, Jacob F. Rinehart
The Confluence
Various historical scholars have examined the role of Andrew Carnegie's Gospel of Wealth on philanthropic attitudes and endeavors of affluent Americans during the Progressive Era. Modern developments, driven by post-structural feminist theory, have shown that rural-born Missouri women, exemplified by Phoebe Apperson Hearst, acted as complementary equals to Carnegie through their humanitarian efforts by uniquely interpreting and implementing his social doctrines. However, the existing scholarship has focused substantially on coastal developments, neglecting the role of this benevolence in rural Missouri communities. By examining the philanthropic endeavors of Lucy Wortham James, both during her life and post-mortem through her endowment of …

Navigating the Future Together: Student Success Symposium
What if the key to unlocking stronger student success lies in the gap between how students think they use the library and how librarians see that engagement? At a small liberal arts university, researchers compared student self-perceptions of library visits, resource engagement, information literacy, and AI use with national survey data of academic librarians.
Findings revealed notable differences in how students and librarians view their interactions with libraries, information, and AI. However, students who developed library habits and skills valued resources and services in ways that closely mirrored librarian perspectives. This alignment points to a promising opportunity: fostering more intentional …

Navigating the Future Together: Student Success Symposium
Abstract:
Academic libraries are uniquely positioned to support holistic student success by fostering environments that promote well-being, belonging, and resilience. This presentation highlights how our university library integrates wellness into its strategic planning, services, and physical spaces. Through initiatives such as a dedicated meditation room, guided mindfulness sessions, and stress-relief activities, the library creates inclusive spaces for reflection and restoration. A curated Mindfulness Collection—featuring digital and physical resources on mental health, spirituality, and contemplative practices—empowers students to explore wellness on their own terms. These efforts are complemented by Earth Month programming that connects personal well-being with environmental stewardship.
