External Validation Of A Simple Mortality Risk Prediction Score For Tuberculosis Patients, Pattama Saisudjarit, Surasak Saokaew, Acharaporn Duangjai, Anurak Prasatkhetragarn, Sukrit Kanchanasurakit, Pochamana Phisalprapa

Journal of Health Research

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health issue, contributing to substantial mortality annually; therefore, effective risk stratification is essential for clinical decision-making and optimal resource allocation. This study externally validates a simple mortality prediction score for TB patients that was initially developed by Saisudjarit and colleague in a different population.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using TB registry data from four Thai provinces (Nakhon Sawan, Kamphaeng Phet, Chai Nat, and Uthai Thani) collected January 1, 2019–December 31, 2020. Eligible patients were aged ≥ 18 years and had either completed treatment or died during that period. The risk …

Survival And Factors Associated With Mortality Among Esophageal Cancer Patients At A Tertiary Hospital In Northeastern Thailand, Bhunyabhadh Chaimay, Somkiattiyos Woradet, Nuntiput Putthanachote

Journal of Health Research

Background: Esophageal cancer (EC) is a major global health concern due to its high fatality rate. Although Thailand reports a relatively low incidence, the disease’s prevalence has increased over the past decade. This study aimed to evaluate survival time and identify factors associated with mortality among EC patients.

Methods: A hospital-based cohort study was conducted at the tertiary hospital in northeastern, Thailand, including 101 EC patients diagnosed between 2006 and 2015. Subjects were followed for six months. Clinical data were retrospectively collected from medical records and the Cancer Registry. Survival probability was estimated using Kaplan-Meier method, and Cox’s proportional hazards …

Handgrip Strength And Dental Plaque Removal Performance In Older Primary Care Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study, Thananan Sirowet, Thareerat Ananchaisarp, Angkana Thearmontree, Jermphiphut Jaruenpunyasak, Kongfa Wamasing Jan 2026

Handgrip Strength And Dental Plaque Removal Performance In Older Primary Care Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study, Thananan Sirowet, Thareerat Ananchaisarp, Angkana Thearmontree, Jermphiphut Jaruenpunyasak, Kongfa Wamasing

Journal of Health Research

Background: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a primary care unit and general practitioner clinic in a tertiary teaching hospital in Hat Yai, Songkhla, Thailand, to evaluate the effect of hand grip strength on maintaining oral hygiene in older adults.

Method: Participants completed a questionnaire, performed a brushing task on a force-sensor–equipped dental model, and had plaque stained before brushing while being video recorded. The primary outcome was plaque removal performance. Multivariable logistic regression identified factors associated with inadequate plaque removal, and sex-specific grip strength cut-off points were determined using receiver operating characteristic analysis.

Results: Among 116 older adults, 31.0% …

Analysis Of A Few Quantum Algorithms And Circuits Related To Boolean Functions, Suman Dutta Jan 2026

Analysis Of A Few Quantum Algorithms And Circuits Related To Boolean Functions, Suman Dutta

Doctoral Theses

Boolean functions are fundamental to computation and presently play a crucial role in quantum information processing. This thesis presents two facets of Boolean functions in the context of quantum computing: (I) extending and applying the theoretical framework of Forrelation to cryptographic analysis, and (II) designing efficient quantum circuits for multi-controlled Toffoli gates and Boolean circuit implementations. Given two Boolean functions $f$ and $g$, Forrelation, introduced by Aaronson (2010), measures the correlation between the truth table of $f$ and the Walsh-Hadamard transform of $g$ at the corresponding points. Here, we revisit the Forrelation framework to study several cryptographically significant spectra of …

Combinatorial & Algebraic Approaches In Analyzing Mutually Unbiased Bases (Mubs) And Their Approximations, Rakesh Kumar Jan 2026

Combinatorial & Algebraic Approaches In Analyzing Mutually Unbiased Bases (Mubs) And Their Approximations, Rakesh Kumar

Doctoral Theses

Mutually Unbiased Bases (MUBs) are an important concept in quantum information theory. Two orthonormal bases in a $d$-dimensional complex Hilbert space $\mathbb{C}^d$ are said to be mutually unbiased if the absolute value of the inner product between any pair of vectors, one from each basis, is $1/\sqrt{d}$. A set of $r$ orthonormal bases is called mutually unbiased if every pair of bases in the set is unbiased. It is known that at most $d + 1$ mutually unbiased bases can exist in $\mathbb{C}^d$, and a set achieving this bound is termed a \emph{complete sets of MUBs} in $\mathbb{C}^d$. We can …

The Impacts Of Age-Related Peripheral Hearing Loss, Central Auditory Processing, And Cognition On Quality Of Life In Older Adults: A Scoping Review, Brian M. Kreisman, Samantha E. Vasquez, Anna J. Bierma Jan 2026

The Impacts Of Age-Related Peripheral Hearing Loss, Central Auditory Processing, And Cognition On Quality Of Life In Older Adults: A Scoping Review, Brian M. Kreisman, Samantha E. Vasquez, Anna J. Bierma

University Faculty Publications and Creative Works

This scoping review aims to synthesize peer-reviewed literature exploring quality of life (QoL) for individuals with age-related hearing loss (ARHL), age-related central auditory processing (ARCAP) deficits, and age-related cognitive decline. A growing body of research has identified ARHL as a risk factor for the development of dementia, highlighting the connection between the sensory and cognitive systems. As the aging population continues to grow, examining comorbid age-related hearing and cognitive decline is especially relevant. These conditions may have potential negative consequences on the daily functioning, social participation, mental health, and overall wellbeing of older adults. A systematic search of peer-reviewed literature …

Empowerment Pedagogy: A Mixed Methods Grounded Theory Approach To Developing A Pedagogical Framework For Empowering Middle School Aged Students, Henry James Bryant Jan 2026

Empowerment Pedagogy: A Mixed Methods Grounded Theory Approach To Developing A Pedagogical Framework For Empowering Middle School Aged Students, Henry James Bryant

Educational Studies Dissertations

The current state of adolescent well-being in “post-COVID” America demonstrates a need for widespread intervention to aid students in coping with trauma and mental health issues. In a review of the literature, feelings of empowerment have been found to be antithetical to feelings of trauma. Moreover, the benefits of empowerment in terms of adolescent mental health, academic achievement, and behaviors are well documented. However, strategies designed to impact students’ feelings of empowerment have not been well established, and programs that are presently offered are often inaccessible due to cost, public opinion, and a need for whole school adoption. In this …

Improved Performance Of Wave Energy Converters And Arrays For Wave-To-Onshore Power Grid Integration, Madelyn Veurink, David Wilson, Rush Robinett, Wayne Weaver Jan 2026

Improved Performance Of Wave Energy Converters And Arrays For Wave-To-Onshore Power Grid Integration, Madelyn Veurink, David Wilson, Rush Robinett, Wayne Weaver

Michigan Tech Publications

This paper focuses on power grid integration of wave energy converter (WEC) arrays that minimize added energy storage for maximizing power capture as well as smoothing the oscillatory power inputs into the grid. In particular, a linear right circular cylinder WEC array that implements complex conjugate control is compared and contrasted to a nonlinear WEC array that implements an hourglass buoy shape while both are integrated into the grid utilizing phase control (i.e., relative spacing of the WEC array) on the input powers to the grid. The Hamiltonians of the two WEC systems are derived, enabling a direct comparison of …
