This paper outlines the rationale for developing a Cooperative Movement in secondary schools, with the examples drawn from Malaysia. There are 4 reasons to do so. Firstly, to give the students to experience the practice of democracy. Secondly, to give the students practical experience in organizing and cooperating an economic enterprise. Thirdly, to provide the schools, students and staffs with a convenient supply of items at attractive prices. And lastly, students could learn the art of working together or cooperating for the benefit of the whole school or for particular groups in the school. However, there are some problems concerning …

The Future Of The Malay Language, Ungku Abdul Hamid Ungku Abdul Aziz
Archival Material (Undated)
There is always a turning point for a language to become a popular language in the international society. Once Malay was the language of a great empire. However, Western Imperialism has destroyed the unity and the influence of the Malay language. The Malay scholars had suppressed the Malay language further for their imperialism without considering the consequences to the culture and the society. After the declaration of independence, it was the first time Malay language has been used throughout the administration and universities. New concepts and new styles were introduced into the language and the spelling system was reformed and …

Prof. Ungku gave some suggestions on how to design a Mission Statement. One way to mobilize and guide all the members is to describe in a clear language the values that are in fact already in the minds of the leadership. They shall not contradict the values that the stakeholder of the corporation believes in. The values shall not be taken in any ranking order or importance. It should be symmetrical. And lastly, negative values should be avoidable wherever possible.

Journal of Health Research
Background: Buddhist monks in Thailand experience distinctive lifestyle constraints—such as dependence on alms-based diets and restrictions on strenuous physical activity—that heighten their vulnerability to type 2 diabetes. This study examined the effectiveness of a structured health literacy program in improving diabetes-preventive self-care behaviors among pre-diabetic Buddhist monks in upper northeastern Thailand.
Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted with 72 pre-diabetic monks, evenly allocated to intervention and comparison groups. The intervention group completed a 24-week structured health literacy program. Health literacy and self-care behaviors were assessed using validated questionnaires before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using descriptive …

Phase 1 involved a literature review and identification of the tool’s key components through a two-round Modified Delphi Method process conducted with 19 multidisciplinary experts. Phase 2 focused on tool development and validation. Reliability was tested with 60 participants. Exploratory …
“The Monster That Ate Jurisprudence”: The Misfire Of Civil Rico In Third-Party Payor Recovery, Jillian Rae Bloom
“The Monster That Ate Jurisprudence”: The Misfire Of Civil Rico In Third-Party Payor Recovery, Jillian Rae Bloom
University of Miami Business Law Review
A law created to dismantle organized crime is now being misused to target pharmaceutical companies. The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), originally intended to combat criminal enterprises, has since expanded far beyond its intended purpose. Third-party payors (TTPs), such as health insurers, have increasingly relied on RICO to sue pharmaceutical companies for deceptive marketing practices that allegedly cause significant financial harm. While it is important to hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for their fraudulent conduct, applying RICO in these cases represents a troublesome overreach. The link between the alleged fraud and TPPs alleged harm is too attenuated to meet …

Tracing The Truth: Strengthening U.S. Food Traceability With Lessons From The Eur. Union, Carolina Gomez
University of Miami Business Law Review
The United States (U.S.) has made significant progress in improving food traceability, with the FDA’s Final Food Traceability Rule set to take effect in 2026. This long-overdue regulation aims to improve outbreak response and better protect public health. However, major gaps in the U.S. traceability system remain, leaving consumers exposed to preventable foodborne illness outbreaks. Legislative challenges, including H.R. Bill 7563 and provisions in the Fiscal Year 2025 Agriculture Appropriations bill, threaten to delay or weaken these necessary reforms. Compounding these challenges, on August 7, 2025, the FDA proposed extending the compliance deadline for the rule by 30 months, to …

Implementation Of Structured Nursing Leadership Rounding To Improve Hospital Policy Adherence, Irma Rose Maize
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Variability in nursing policy compliance contributes to inconsistent clinical practice and compromises the delivery of standardized care. Limited leadership presence, support, and accountability have been identified as significant contributors to this practice gap. This Doctor of Nursing Practice project focused on educating nurse leaders about the importance and benefits of consistent unit-based leadership rounding as a strategy to support frontline nurses and reinforce policy adherence. A structured leadership rounding checklist was developed to guide purposeful, consistent check-ins with nursing staff, facilitating real-time support and identification of barriers to practice. Implementation of the checklist promoted increased leadership accessibility, improved communication, and …

Consumers, Laborers, And Antitrust, Oh My! Why Labor Considerations Should Be Examined In Antitrust Law Through The Lens Of U.S. V. Bertelsmann Se & Co. Kgaa, Jodi Nicole Kain
University of Miami Business Law Review
Imagine the disappointing feeling of walking into a bookstore and finding shelves filled with only a narrow and non-diverse selection of titles. This feeling nearly became a reality when the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) won an action blocking a proposed merger between mega publishing houses Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster in the case United States v. Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA (2021) (“Bertelsmann”). The DOJ claimed that the merger would harm consumers by reducing the diversity of books available and directly harm authors—the creative labor force—by limiting competition for publishing deals and suppressing their compensation. For the first …
Reliance, Misplaced: Restoring The Text Of The Antifraud Provisions Of The Federal Securities Laws In Sec Enforcement Actions, Christopher R. Mills
Reliance, Misplaced: Restoring The Text Of The Antifraud Provisions Of The Federal Securities Laws In Sec Enforcement Actions, Christopher R. Mills
University of Miami Business Law Review
The antifraud provisions of the federal securities laws are statutory sledgehammers. Those who violate them can face severe sanctions, including ruinous monetary penalties and others that can effectively bar firms and individuals from the securities industries. The Securities and Exchange Commission is authorized to enforce these provisions with the full weight of the federal government. And the SEC does so vigorously.
Even though the antifraud provisions target fraud, for decades lower courts and the Commission have held that the Commission can establish violations of them without any evidence that anyone was misled. They have done so by concluding that, unlike …

Am I Good Enough To Be Here? A Photovoice Project Examining Students’ Experiences Of Ableism In Higher Education, Sylvia Mac Ph.D., Niki Elliott Ph.D.
Inclusion in Postsecondary Education
The enrollment of students with disabilities in postsecondary education has continued to increase (U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2024). Nevertheless, these students’ stories often remain invisible. This Photovoice project centers the voices of students with disabilities in postsecondary education and uses polyvagal theory (Porges, 2011, 2021) to understand the importance of considering the nervous system when seeking to create and sustain inclusive higher education spaces.
This study revealed the ways the participants’ nervous system experienced life as college students with a disability, organized around the themes of their perceptions of felt safety, of belonging, and of being liked. Findings from this …
Land Use And Sovereignty Along The Catawba River, Thomas C. Brugh, Lucile C. Rencher
Land Use And Sovereignty Along The Catawba River, Thomas C. Brugh, Lucile C. Rencher
Student Scholarship
This document-based case study explains how land-use change along the Catawba River Corridor (Lancaster and York Counties, South Carolina) has been produced through the interaction of property rights (dominium) and rule-setting authority (imperium), showing why sovereignty continues to shape development even after land disputes appear “settled.” Through analyzing legal records (Treaty of Nation Ford, the 1959 Catawba Division of Assets Act, the 1986 Supreme Court timing decision, and the 1993 Settlement Act), planning documents, parcel records, and field observations, we trace how shifting jurisdiction and title certainty structured what kinds of land uses were possible and when. We argue that …

Association Of Hair Shedding Level With Cow–Calf Performance In Summer-Bred Dexter Cattle, Ichard Browning Jr, Emily G. Hayes, Kaylee S. Hillin, Maria Lenira Leite-Browning
Food and Animal Sciences Faculty Research
Reduced winter hair shedding in beef cows through the spring and summer months may contribute to heat stress and reduced performance in spring-calving herds. This study evaluated the relationship of hair shedding with the fertility and maternal performance of 72 Dexter cows. Hair shedding data for 20 May, 3 June, 17 June, and 1 July in 2019 were used to classify cows as high or low hair shedders. Hair shedding levels were lower (p < 0.05) for 2-year-old cows than for cows 7+ years of age for the first three dates and lower (p ≤ 0.05) for lactating cows than for dry cows on the first two dates. Concurrent and four years of historical performance records were used to assess the associations between hair shedding and cow–calf performance. Data from 230 natural matings in July and August from 2015 to 2019 were analyzed. Birth to weaning weight data were recorded from 2016 to 2019 on 124 spring-born calves. Cow fertility was higher (p < 0.05) for high-shed cows than for low-shed cows for the 1 July classification. When the records from cows that were dry in 2019 were excluded from testing, fertility was higher (p < 0.05) for high-shed cows than for low-shed cows at all four scoring dates. The associations of cow hair shedding levels with preweaning calf performance were minimal. Dexter cows exhibiting higher hair shedding levels in the spring and summer expressed higher summer fertility.
