Interiority And Resilience, Paramita Atmodiwirjo, Yandi Andri Yatmo Jan 2026

Interiority And Resilience, Paramita Atmodiwirjo, Yandi Andri Yatmo

Interiority

The disciplines of interior architecture and interior design operate within a world characterised by constant changes. Projecting the future of the interior requires an understanding of how the discipline and practice can manoeuvre exquisitely within such complexities. It calls for design scholarship that promotes resilience as a key condition for responding to constant changes. The interior demonstrates resilience through its capacity to sustain culture, humanistic values, and local sociospatial practices, allowing it to navigate the dynamics of global flux. A call for interior resilience presents an opportunity for interior practices grounded in humanistic and cultural approaches to address uncertainties, instability, …

Reading The Vernacular Interior: A Pattern Language For Reuse, Nusrat Kamal Ritu, Aslı Ciçek, Bie Plevoets Jan 2026

Reading The Vernacular Interior: A Pattern Language For Reuse, Nusrat Kamal Ritu, Aslı Ciçek, Bie Plevoets

Interiority

Historic interiors are unique repositories of memory, yet conventional reuse practices often fail to grasp their cultural complexity, prioritising formal interventions over lived experience. Dominant strategy-based frameworks for reuse struggle to capture the incremental, user-led adaptations that define these lived interiors. This paper addresses these limitations through a case study of the community-led revival of Harat al-Aqr, Oman. Methodologically, it reframes Alexander et al.'s (1977) pattern language as an interpretive lens for analysing the incremental evolution and embedded cultural intelligence of lived interiors. The research synthesises subjective narrative writing with analytical patterns, revealing that the significance of such spaces lies …

Solitary Interiority In Hong Kong Public Spaces, Xia Bi, Kin Wai Michael Siu, Rosina Yuan Jan 2026

Solitary Interiority In Hong Kong Public Spaces, Xia Bi, Kin Wai Michael Siu, Rosina Yuan

Interiority

Hong Kong's dense urban environment, constrained housing, and relentless tempo of everyday life create a context in which solitude is both scarce and valued. This article develops the concept of solitary interiority to capture how moments of solitude in public space generate interiority as a relational condition through the interplay of bodies, atmospheres, and cultural norms. Drawing on ethnographic interviews and multisensory experiential reflection, the article demonstrates how solitary interiority arises from the blurring of boundaries between the domestic and the urban, the self and others, and the private and the public. Individuals extend certain home-like qualities into public spaces, …

Neuroscience And Humanism In Norman Foster's Architecture, Francisco Javier Lahuerta Ferris, Bartolomé Serra Soriano Jan 2026

Neuroscience And Humanism In Norman Foster's Architecture, Francisco Javier Lahuerta Ferris, Bartolomé Serra Soriano

Interiority

The work of Norman Foster, often labelled as 'high-tech,' is renowned for its structural expressionism and technological rationalism. However, it is grounded in the conception of a unified whole in which science, technology, and the humanities are inseparable facets that shape both human beings and the spaces they design and inhabit. This article analyses the correlations between the new paradigms established by neuroscience and the design principles of Foster's architecture: the integral conception of reality, optimisation, and energy balance (homeostasis) as survival factors guiding decisions, and the role of perception, emotions, and feelings in the creation and evaluation of architectural …

Embodied Interiority In The Shishinden: Ritual Space, Political Symbolism, And Interior Experience In Japanese Imperial Architecture, İlknur Yüksel Schwamborn Jan 2026

Embodied Interiority In The Shishinden: Ritual Space, Political Symbolism, And Interior Experience In Japanese Imperial Architecture, İlknur Yüksel Schwamborn

Interiority

This study investigates the Shishinden, the principal ceremonial hall of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, as a site where spatial hierarchy, ritual movement, and material atmosphere converge to construct a unique form of interiority. Rather than treating the hall merely as a stylistic or historical artifact, the paper analyses how interior experience is actively produced through embodied ritual practices, symbolic spatial organisation, and sensory orchestration. By focusing on the interaction between architecture, politics, and cultural cosmology, the study demonstrates how the Shishinden functions as an affective interior that communicates imperial authority and sacred order. The findings contribute to contemporary interiority discourse …

Rapid Diagnosis Of Staphylococcus Aureus Using The Lamp Method, Hadeel Abdul-Amir, Thair Al-Kelabi Jan 2026

Rapid Diagnosis Of Staphylococcus Aureus Using The Lamp Method, Hadeel Abdul-Amir, Thair Al-Kelabi

AUIQ Conference Proceedings

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a genetically distinct strain of S. aureus, poses a significant health problem in humans and animals. MRSA is responsible for various difficult-to-treat illnesses in humans and animals. The loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) experiment was performed using four unique primers developed for six distinct mecA and femA gene sequences. The LAMP test was completed in 45 minutes at 62.5°C and visualized by gel electrophoresis. Moreover, the LAMP test has better sensitivity than conventional PCR, detecting genomic DNA at 64.8 pg/μL, which is hundreds of times more sensitive than conventional PCR.  The LAMP test is an …

A "Simple" Second Look: The Argument For Mandatory Judicial Recusal In Pennsylvania Post Conviction Hearings, Taylor Banks Jan 2026

A "Simple" Second Look: The Argument For Mandatory Judicial Recusal In Pennsylvania Post Conviction Hearings, Taylor Banks

Criminal Law Society Blog

The Due Process Clause guarantees criminal defendants an impartial adjudicator, yet post-conviction proceedings often escape meaningful judicial recusal. In Pennsylvania, the same judge who presided over a criminal trial commonly adjudicates that defendant’s post-conviction review, even when prior rulings are challenged. This Article argues that such self-review creates an objectively intolerable risk of bias, undermining due process and public confidence in the judiciary. Drawing on Supreme Court precedent and psychological research on confirmation bias, the Article demonstrates that existing recusal standards fail to address structural risks in post-conviction adjudication. It proposes legislative reform mandating judicial recusal when a judge previously …

Critical Design And The Robotic Imaginary: Design Criticism And Critical Robots, Jörgen Behrendtz Jan 2026

Critical Design And The Robotic Imaginary: Design Criticism And Critical Robots, Jörgen Behrendtz

The Journal of Sociotechnical Critique

This paper brings critical design and design criticism to critical robot studies. Critical design can be described as an umbrella term for approaches making use of speculative designs to highlight and challenge narrow assumptions, preconceptions or even taken-for-granted truths about the role products play (in a wide sense) in everyday life. Design criticism refers to a reasoned procedure that investigates emancipatory and/or limiting potentials of designs, theorizes the roles of affordances, materials and embodied perception as epistemological resources in media interaction, and clarifies connections between specific design choices and their associated experiential qualities, seductive powers, ideological underpinnings, material operations, and …

Optic Neuritis And Neuroretinitis In Cat-Scratch Disease: An Updated Systematic Review, Sara Urdiales-Sánchez, José-Ramiro González-Montaña, Pilar Alonso-Alonso, Javier Urdiales-Urdiales

Journal of Pediatric Neurology

This study provides a systematic review of optic neuritis and neuroretinitis associated with cat scratch disease (CSD) caused by Bartonella henselae. CSD, commonly transmitted through cat scratches or bites, can lead to visual complications, particularly in children, who are more frequently exposed to cats. A comprehensive literature search identified 10 relevant studies from an initial pool of 521 articles. Typical CSD manifests with regional lymphadenopathy, but severe complications like hepatosplenomegaly and encephalitis can occur, especially in younger patients. Atypical presentations, such as neuroretinitis, often begin as optic neuritis with papillary edema, progressing to a macular star pattern. Pediatric patients may …

Comorbidity Of Cerebral Palsy And Bipolar Disorder In Two Adolescents: Case Series, Ayda Beril Nas Ünver, Merve Onat, Esra Çöp Jan 2026

Comorbidity Of Cerebral Palsy And Bipolar Disorder In Two Adolescents: Case Series, Ayda Beril Nas Ünver, Merve Onat, Esra Çöp

Journal of Pediatric Neurology

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a common condition in children that affects movement and posture due to non-progressive disruptions during cerebral development. Patients with CP are at a higher risk of developing mental health disorders due to social and physical factors. 28%–57% of children diagnosed with CP exhibit psychiatric diagnoses or symptoms. The symptoms of intellectual disability and related behavioral disorders that are often associated with cerebral palsy can be easily confused with the symptoms of a mood disorder. Therefore, there is a possibility of a delay in the diagnostic procedure and the commencement of treatment, which could potentially endanger the …

Psychological Factors And Family Communication In Children And Adolescents With Elimination Disorders, Mehdi Ebrahimi, Hossein Mousavi Nasab, Mehrdad Hosseinpour, Noshirvan Khezri Moghadam Jan 2026

Psychological Factors And Family Communication In Children And Adolescents With Elimination Disorders, Mehdi Ebrahimi, Hossein Mousavi Nasab, Mehrdad Hosseinpour, Noshirvan Khezri Moghadam

Journal of Pediatric Neurology

Background: Elimination disorders, such as urinary (enuresis) and fecal incontinence (encopresis), involve inappropriate voiding beyond the expected age due to developmental, psychological, or physiological factors. These conditions impact children’s emotional well-being, self-esteem, social functioning, and family relationships. However, few studies have compared psychological functioning and family communication in affected children. This study examines general health, behavioral problems, and mother-child relationships in children with elimination disorders versus healthy peers. Methods: Seventy-two children participated: 25 with urinary incontinence, 24 with fecal incontinence, and 23 healthy controls. Participants were recruited from hospitals in Isfahan. Data were collected using standardized questionnaires: the General Health …
