Understanding The Option Greeks And Option Strategies: An Example Using Apple Earnings Jan 2026

Understanding The Option Greeks And Option Strategies: An Example Using Apple Earnings

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Students often struggle with understanding option price movements involving the interaction of option “Greeks” and option values. This case study examines the option price movements driven by delta, time decay, and implied volatility following an Apple earnings announcement. The exercise involves students strategically selecting options across multiple strategies and reveals the impact of changes in implied volatility which leads to counterintuitive option price reactions. The goal of the exercise is to bring awareness to the intricacies of option pricing in an empirical setting. We find that comprehension and retention increase significantly when a case study is performed using actual data.

Student Recognition Of Learning Gains: Evidence From Pre- And Post-Instruction Quizzes Jan 2026

Student Recognition Of Learning Gains: Evidence From Pre- And Post-Instruction Quizzes

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

This study investigates whether students in upper-division economics courses can meaningfully recognize their learning gains over time, independent of instructor-assigned grades. Using a repeated quiz design grounded in authentic assessment, students engaged with real-world economic articles before formal instruction and again after substantial course content had been delivered. Students evaluated their responses from both rounds, while instructors independently assessed the same work. Results show that students not only perceived significant learning gains but also became more accurate in assessing their own performance over time. Additionally, early self-perceptions appear to modestly predict later outcomes, while the largest learning gains occurred among …

The Abcs Of Modified Bond Duration And Wxyzs Of Bond Convexity Jan 2026

The Abcs Of Modified Bond Duration And Wxyzs Of Bond Convexity

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

By breaking the mathematical derivation of Macaulay Duration, Modified Duration, and Bond Convexity into smaller easily calculated component parts, a more manageable means of calculation for these bond measures emerges for the student. Further, an Excel spreadsheet or an algorithm within a programming language can also be implemented using these smaller component calculations. The Excel template provided can be made into an assignment or used as a resource for the student.

An Empirical Implementation Of A Two-Standard-Deviation Investment Signaling Framework Across Multiple Asset Classes Jan 2026

An Empirical Implementation Of A Two-Standard-Deviation Investment Signaling Framework Across Multiple Asset Classes

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

This paper presents a pedagogically driven application of a quantitative investment signaling model based on two standard deviation bands. Deviations beyond the two standard deviation range are interpreted as potential mean reversion signals, triggering tactical shifts in asset allocation or trading actions. Students construct the models in Excel using live market data, overlaying asset returns against calculated deviation bands to inform decisions. The firsthand approach emphasizes applied learning and critical thinking, with students analyzing model results and presenting empirical findings. Evidence suggests this experiential method significantly enhances student engagement, comprehension, and retention of investment strategy concepts across diverse financial settings

Coase, Thaler, And Behavioral Economics: Methodological Considerations Jan 2026

Coase, Thaler, And Behavioral Economics: Methodological Considerations

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

In their experiments to measure the endowment effect in market settings, Kahneman, Knetsch, and Thaler (1990; hereafter KKT) assessed the assumption of zero transaction costs associated with the Coase theorem. Their study recruited a sample of advanced undergraduate economics students who were placed in a market setting using coffee mugs as real-world goods, under conditions in which there were zero transaction costs. Their results suggested that an endowment effect lowered trading volume, which should not have occurred if Coase theorem worked in practice. We reexamine the research design employed by KKT, as well as their study’s statistical analysis and results.

Patient Adherence To Glucagon Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists In Obesity Management: A Narrative Review Of Real-World Evidence, Zainab M. Al-Shammaa, Heba M. Attash, Rahma S. Almallah, Abdulla Thamer, Fahad Saleem Jan 2026

Patient Adherence To Glucagon Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists In Obesity Management: A Narrative Review Of Real-World Evidence, Zainab M. Al-Shammaa, Heba M. Attash, Rahma S. Almallah, Abdulla Thamer, Fahad Saleem

Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences

Obesity has become a widespread public health problem in many regions of the world. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have a dual effect on glycemic control and weight loss. Liraglutide, semaglutide, and dulaglutide were first used in the management of type 2 diabetes (T2D), and their use is now growing among people without diabetes. Obesity management requires long-term or even lifelong interventions, so adherence to prescribed therapy is critical for achieving weight loss and maintaining it over time. Patient adherence to GLP-1RAs varies depending on the medication used, its dosing frequency, and whether findings come from clinical trials or real-world …

What About Berber Studies? Archival Materials Around Saïd Cid Kaoui’S Dictionaries, Ouahmi Ould-Braham Jan 2026

What About Berber Studies? Archival Materials Around Saïd Cid Kaoui’S Dictionaries, Ouahmi Ould-Braham

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

Based on archival documents, this article sheds light on a key moment in the history of Berber studies through the career of the Berberist Saïd Cid Kaoui (1859–1910) and the making of his bilingual dictionaries (Tamâheq/Tuareg and Berber varieties of Morocco). It reconstructs the scholarly and institutional context (orientalism, military and university settings, the École supérieure des lettres d’Alger), the publication process, and exchanges with expert reviewers at the Ministry. The analysis highlights issues of terminology, transcription, and standardization, and shows how these lexicographic tools helped structure and disseminate research on Berber varieties.

The Tale Between Preservation And Loss, Nadia Ouachene

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

This study examines folktales as a form of oral literature whose vitality depends on memory and the transmission of knowledge. Through a qualitative approach, the author explores the causes of the decline of this cultural heritage. She highlights the roles and functions of folktales (educational, identity-related, symbolic), while emphasizing their aesthetic significance. The study focuses on efforts to safeguard folktales in their traditional form and within the broader literary and cultural heritage.

Andrée Chedid In The City Of Nefertiti And Akhenaten, Loubna Bousfiha Jan 2026

Andrée Chedid In The City Of Nefertiti And Akhenaten, Loubna Bousfiha

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

Focusing on Nefertiti et le rêve d’Akhnaton, this article examines how Andrée Chedid revisits universal history to make reality and fiction interact and to revive the “City of Horizon.” It analyzes the intersection of history and imagination and the dual requirement of poetic-literary achievement and political-ideological awareness. Particular attention is given to the novel’s narrative polyphony (Nefertiti and the scribe Boubastos), the celebration of writing as a guardian of memory, and the use of introspection to bring historical events closer to the reader. The study argues that Chedid’s historical fiction opens ethical and existential possibilities by rewriting what official history …

Private Equity, Public Utility, Kristen Van De Biezendos, Melissa Powers

Faculty Scholarship

The explosion of investment in artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies has spurred a data center boom, with politicians jostling to attract companies to build data centers in their states. The potential financial windfall from these data centers has also attracted the attention of private equity firms, which are seeking to capitalize on the potential riches to be made in supplying these projects with electricity by buying regulated public electric utilities. These utilities are unusual in our capitalist system, in that they are subject to both state and federal regulation regarding their duties to serve the public and the amount they can …

Platform Privileges: A Framework For How Antitrust Law Should Police Digital Platforms’ Use Of Material Non-Public Information, Eric H. Siemens Jan 2026

Platform Privileges: A Framework For How Antitrust Law Should Police Digital Platforms’ Use Of Material Non-Public Information, Eric H. Siemens

Missouri Law Review

Where the Gilded Age Rockefeller oil monopoly once spurred antitrust reforms in the United States, the tech giants of Silicon Valley have ignited a similar frenzy for reform in legislators and populist scholars today. The unprecedented and rapid growth of digital platforms such as Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon has forced policymakers to confront the question of whether traditional antitrust law is sufficient to deal with the new-age giants. This has spurred calls on both sides of the political aisle for increased antitrust enforcement, leading Missouri Senator Josh Hawley to go as far as to argue that “[t]he Big Tech …

House Of Cards: An Examination Of Missouri’S Inconsistent Tax Assessment Regime And The Questionable Role Of The Court As Arbiter, Isabel Fenoglio Jan 2026

House Of Cards: An Examination Of Missouri’S Inconsistent Tax Assessment Regime And The Questionable Role Of The Court As Arbiter, Isabel Fenoglio

Missouri Law Review

“Taxes are what we pay for civilized society.” No one has offered a simpler rationale for the American tax system than the former Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Despite their inevitability, taxes remain universally dreaded and misunderstood by Americans, but none more so than property taxes. Without property taxes, life as everyday Americans understand it would cease to exist. From streets to schools, from libraries to fire departments, the budgets of indispensable public services, which enable communities to flourish, would collapse.

Money Over Everything: Reimagining Health Care Enforcement, Jacob T. Elberg Jan 2026

Money Over Everything: Reimagining Health Care Enforcement, Jacob T. Elberg

Missouri Law Review

Annual press releases from the Department of Justice trumpet billions of dollars in annual recoveries and optimism that its health care enforcement regime deters even more fraud than it addresses. Yet DOJ’s consistent recoveries can be seen as a sign that fraud continues unabated. While some scholars have questioned the deterrent value of the government’s model of enforcement through civil settlements, little attention has been given to what may be the most important aspect of DOJ’s effort—its focus on money both as the sole measure of harm and the sole means of deterrence.

Pickering And Choosing: The Positive Outcome Of An Eighth Circuit Ruling Among The Chaotic World Of Government Employee Free Speech, Luke M. Severt

Missouri Law Review

Public employees do not shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the workplace gate. Nor do they shed them when they log on to their computer to send an email to their co-workers, superiors, or similar fellow government employees. In Mayfield v. Missouri House of Representatives, the Eighth Circuit undertook a multistep analysis to determine whether the defendant, as a public employer, violated the constitutional rights of its longtime employee, Tad Mayfield, when it terminated him only three days after he sent an email to state legislature leaders asking them to implement a mask mandate to …

Rule 11’S Unfulfilled Promise To Protect Noncitizen Defendants, Allison Mccarthy Jan 2026

Rule 11’S Unfulfilled Promise To Protect Noncitizen Defendants, Allison Mccarthy

Missouri Law Review

The federal criminal legal system is a deportation pipeline. Almost all noncitizen defendants waive their constitutional right to a trial and instead enter guilty pleas that have grave immigration consequences. Despite the constitutional guarantee of due process for all criminal defendants regardless of immigration status, many noncitizen defendants enter guilty pleas that are not both knowing and voluntary. Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 11(b)(1)(O) requires that courts, prior to accepting a guilty plea, provide a general warning that immigration consequences may result from a criminal conviction. Adopted in the wake of the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Padilla v. …

Back To Basics: Statutory Interpretation And The Demise Of The Dol’S Tip Credit Rule After Loper Bright, William T. Perryman

Missouri Law Review

The Fifth Circuit recently delivered a significant blow to the Department of Labor’s (“DOL”) regulatory authority in Restaurant Law Center v. U.S. Department of Labor, which vacated a rule delineating the permissible scope of non-tip-producing work for employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for employers claiming a “tip credit.” The challenged regulation—often referred to as the “80/20 rule” with a “30-minute rule” addendum—sought to limit the amount of non-tip-producing work a tipped employee could perform if the employer claimed a tip credit. What renders this decision particularly notable is the Fifth Circuit’s relatively swift invalidation of a long-standing …

Breaking Up The Dog Fight: Restoring Order To Supplemental Jurisdiction After Wullschleger, Lucas Reed Jan 2026

Breaking Up The Dog Fight: Restoring Order To Supplemental Jurisdiction After Wullschleger, Lucas Reed

Missouri Law Review

In 2024, the United States had a “jurisdictional dog fight” on its hands; one between a defendant’s right to access federal courts through removal and a plaintiff’s status as “master of the complaint.” At stake was not mere technical procedure but the very balance between state and federal authority. When defendants began removing cases with embedded federal questions to federal court only to have plaintiffs amend their complaints to eliminate federal “hooks,” the resulting legal battle would test the boundaries of precedent and the logic governing forum selection. Royal Canin U.S.A., Inc. v. Wullschleger provided such a test.

Google Geofences: Navigating The Fourth Amendment In The Digital Age, Maverick L. L. Lewis

Missouri Law Review

In December 2018, twenty-three-year-old Jorge Molina was wrongfully arrested for murder based on location data received from a Google geofence—a virtual perimeter around a specific geographic location, created using Google’s location services. Despite law enforcement confirming his alibi within twenty-four hours, Molina spent six days in jail before he was released. As a result, Molina lost his job and car, suffered reputational damage, and was forced to drop out of college. Molina’s stepfather was later arrested and charged for the murder after law enforcement learned he had been using Molina’s old phone, which was still logged into his email. In …

Zoune At Her Nann-Enn's House, Justin Lhérisson, Susan Kalter

Undiscovered Americas

Zoune at Her Nann-enn’s House by Justin Lhérisson is a 1906 Haitian novella that examines the social and domestic trials young women face as they come of age. Translated by Susan Kalter, this first-ever English-language edition of the book also provides a rich afterword that critically situates Lhérisson’s story in social and political Haitian contexts and establishes how those particular contexts connect to larger social issues in our present moment. The plot follows a quietly resilient young girl, Zoune, sent from the countryside to live with her godmother in Port-au-Prince. Removed from her biological family, Zoune grows up under the …

Rules Before Relief: International Organizations And The Administrative Burdens Of G5 Donor Counterterrorism And Sanctions Frameworks In The Mena Region, Khloud Awad Jan 2026

Rules Before Relief: International Organizations And The Administrative Burdens Of G5 Donor Counterterrorism And Sanctions Frameworks In The Mena Region, Khloud Awad

Theses and Dissertations

The international humanitarian system relies on a small group of powerful donor governments. The G5, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan, collectively provide the majority of bilateral humanitarian financing and attach extensive counterterrorism and sanctions compliance requirements to their funding. This study examines how these frameworks generate administrative burden for the international organizations that translate funding into assistance in conflict settings in the MENA region. The study draws on Administrative Burden Theory, adapted from its original citizen-state context to the donor-international organization relationship. Moreover, it adopts a qualitative design across four conflict-affected settings: Sudan, Palestine, Syria, …

Implementation Of Zero Trust Architecture On Local Server Management In Educational Institutions, Joko Purwanto, Safar Dwi Kurniawan

Journal of Strategic and Global Studies

Educational institutions are facing increasingly complex cyber threats, particularly as they continue to rely on on-premises servers with limited cybersecurity resources. Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) offers a security model that rejects implicit trust and requires strict verification of each access request. This study aims to examine the applicability of ZTA in managing local servers within educational institutions through a qualitative literature review approach. Relevant literature from 2014 to 2025 was analyzed using thematic synthesis to identify recurring concepts, strategies, and gaps. The results show that ZTA, when integrated with Identity and Access Management (IAM), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), …

China’S Health Diplomacy To Asean Through Asean-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2021-2025, Zahra Shaffa Kamila, Deasy Silvya Sari

Journal of Strategic and Global Studies

The world always faces limitations in dealing with the pandemic. China had emerged as an active actor in health diplomacy to address this. China was the first country to send vaccines and health aid to Southeast Asia through ASEAN. However, the relationship between China and ASEAN did not begin with the pandemic. Both countries have a long history and recently renewed their plan of action (POA), which serves as evidence of their relationship namely the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) 2021-2025. The POA includes a sub-chapter on health that navigates China's health diplomacy towards ASEAN. Therefore, this research aimed to …

Humanity Is Evolving Its Consciousness: The Role Of Archetypal Energies As Guides During An Unfolding Weeding Out And Alignment Process, Carroy U. Ferguson

Psychology Faculty Publication Series

Humanity is evolving its consciousness at individual and collective levels.  Given these seemingly tumultuous times, as of this writing (January 2026), to make such a statement may sound like a strange thing to say.  However, I suggest that if you are alive today and if you are reading these words, these are the very times for which you were born—to assist Humanity as it evolves its consciousness with your unique gifts, whatever they may be.  That is, this period of our individual and collective human being-ness may be characterized as an unfolding period of weeding out and alignment with the …
