Analysis Of Mutual Inductance For Inductive Coupled Dynamically Charged Varying Speed Electric Vehicle, Hassan Khalid, Saad Mekhilef, Mehdi Seyedmahmoudian, Alex Stojcevski, Marizan Mubin, Peyman Darvish, Amran Hossain

Research Publications (2021 to 2025)

The inductive power transfer for dynamically charged electric vehicles has solved major of the issues encountered during static and wired-based electric vehicle charging. However, dynamic charging is still facing challenges during high-speed receiver displacement over the transmitter. The high-speed receiver requires a high response receiver design. This requires certain modifications in the receiver coil. Therefore, this paper proposes a mathematical model to visualize factors affecting receiver performance during velocity variation. In this regard, various simulation tools including MATLAB, ANSYS Maxwell and LTSpice have helped to identify controlling parameters. Based on simulation results the inductance variation is recommended to optimize power …

Bedstraw Eradication Program 2021/22: Annual Report To Grain Growers, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Agriculture reports

Three-horned bedstraw is a competitive weed that can cause considerable yield loss in crops, and its seeds contaminate fodder and grain. To stop the weed becoming established in Western Australia and impacting production, WA grain/seed/hay growers (via the Grains, Seeds and Hay Industry Funding Scheme) fund the Bedstraw Eradication Program.

What Drives Companies To Do Good? A “Universal” Ordering Of Corporate Social Responsibility Motivation, Alwyn Lim, Shawn Pope Jan 2022

What Drives Companies To Do Good? A “Universal” Ordering Of Corporate Social Responsibility Motivation, Alwyn Lim, Shawn Pope

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

The classic question of why companies do corporate social responsibility (CSR) is central to much theoretical, regression-based, and experimental research. Guiding research into this question is a tripartite schema of normative, instrumental, and political CSR motivations that has become increasingly established in the CSR literature. This paper challenges the schema’s status as a typology of equally plausible alternatives through an integration and analysis of a worldwide literature of 120 existing academic surveys on CSR motivation. Rather, the paper reformulates the schema into a surveyed ordering of CSR motivations that might be called “universal” in having remarkable stability across time periods, …

Relations Among Ptsd, Alcohol Misuse, And Sleep Difficulties In Post-9/11 Veterans, Mya Bowen Jan 2022

Relations Among Ptsd, Alcohol Misuse, And Sleep Difficulties In Post-9/11 Veterans, Mya Bowen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Alcohol misuse, PTSD, and sleep disturbance often co-occur among veterans of post 9/11/2001 conflicts, however, the relations among these conditions have not been fully explored. The current study aimed to investigate the additive effects of PTSD and sleep disturbance on alcohol misuse. Participants included 110 veterans and active military personnel who served in a combat deployment following September 11th, 2001 (Mage=37.02, SD=7.74; 87% Male; 62% White). Bivariate correlations revealed total PTSD severity was significantly associated with sleep disturbance and with alcohol misuse, as expected; however, no significant association between sleep disturbance and alcohol misuse was observed, contrary to prior research. …

Social Recognition Memory In Meadow Voles, Microtus Pennsylvanicus, Depends On Sex And Familiarity, Kelsey Elizabeth Clark Jan 2022

Social Recognition Memory In Meadow Voles, Microtus Pennsylvanicus, Depends On Sex And Familiarity, Kelsey Elizabeth Clark

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Proper social interactions between animals require that an individual discriminate, recognize, and remember the unique cues from conspecifics. Many aspects of social behavior, such as individual recognition, mate recognition and parent-offspring recognition, may be based on such capabilities. To test social recognition over time, subjects are often repeatedly presented with scent from an individual or have prolonged associations with those individuals and then, later, they are simultaneously exposed to familiar and novel individuals or their scents. If the subject can discriminate between the two and recognize the familiar individual’s characteristics, they should investigate the novel stimulus significantly more than the …

Language Policy And Indigenous Language In The Linguistic Landscape Of Asunción, Paraguay, Perry Hardin Jan 2022

Language Policy And Indigenous Language In The Linguistic Landscape Of Asunción, Paraguay, Perry Hardin

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

The field of Linguistic Landscape (LL) has been increasingly used as an effective way of researching, discovering, and better comprehending complex sociolinguistic phenomena. One focus of LL study is the way public displays of language in signs reflect and shape society’s beliefs about language, which in turn influences language practices. In addition, LL research frequently deals with the policies that attempt to influence what languages are used in signs. This study explores the multilingualism and language policy of Paraguay through a sociolinguistic lens by documenting the LL and investigating the factors that influence its construction in the capital city, Asunción. …

Conformational Analysis Of Cyclic Five- And Six-Membered Organosilicon Compounds Using Rotational And Vibrational Spectroscopy With Quantum Chemical Calculations, Thomas Morrison Carnegie Mcfadden Jan 2022

Conformational Analysis Of Cyclic Five- And Six-Membered Organosilicon Compounds Using Rotational And Vibrational Spectroscopy With Quantum Chemical Calculations, Thomas Morrison Carnegie Mcfadden

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

This dissertation describes the conformational preference and energetic relationships between conformers for five- and six-membered organosilicon compounds with silicon in the ring. Organosilicon compounds are particularly of interest due to their well-documented applications in medicinal chemistry. Some of the compounds studied include 1,1-dihalo-1-silacyclopent-2-enes, 1,1-dihalo-1-silacyclopent-3-enes, 1,1-dihalo-1-silacyclohex-2-enes and their hydrogen analogues. Additionally, monosubstituted derivatives with fluoro, chloro, bromo, and isocyanato functional groups with analogous carbon-silicon five- and six-membered unsaturated rings described above, were also investigated, but not all the studies have been published as of yet. One saturated compound, 1-chloromethyl-1-fluorosilacyclohexane was also investigated computationally and with vibrational spectroscopy. Most of the organosilicon …

Consensus Decision-Making And Legislative Inertia At The Wto: Can International Law Help?, Americo B. Zampetti, Patrick Low, Petros C. Mavroidis Jan 2022

Consensus Decision-Making And Legislative Inertia At The Wto: Can International Law Help?, Americo B. Zampetti, Patrick Low, Petros C. Mavroidis

Faculty Scholarship

The recent emergence of Joint Statement Initiatives (JSIs) – that is, negotiating initiatives among a subset of the World Trade Organization (WTO) membership – has reignited the debate over law-making in the WTO. As things stand, the WTO operates on the basis of a widespread expectation that consensus needs to be achieved for any decision to be taken. Agreements that produce rights and obligations only among a subset of the membership (‘plurilaterals’, or Annex 4 agreements) are also subject to the consensus rule and thus remain exceptional. Are JSIs the first move towards redressing the current equilibrium in favour of …

Structural Biases In Structural Constitutional Law, Jonathan S. Gould, David E. Pozen Jan 2022

Structural Biases In Structural Constitutional Law, Jonathan S. Gould, David E. Pozen

Faculty Scholarship

Structural constitutional law regulates the workings of government and supplies the rules of the political game. Whether by design or by accident, these rules sometimes tilt the playing field for or against certain political factions – not just episodically, based on who holds power at a given moment, but systematically over time – in terms of electoral outcomes or policy objectives. In these instances, structural constitutional law is itself structurally biased.

This Article identifies and begins to develop the concept of such structural biases, with a focus on biases affecting the major political parties. Recent years have witnessed a revival …

The Input Fallacy, Talia B. Gillis Jan 2022

The Input Fallacy, Talia B. Gillis

Faculty Scholarship

Algorithmic credit pricing threatens to discriminate against protected groups. Traditionally, fair lending law has addressed such threats by scrutinizing inputs. But input scrutiny has become a fallacy in the world of algorithms.

Using a rich dataset of mortgages, I simulate algorithmic credit pricing and demonstrate that input scrutiny fails to address discrimination concerns and threatens to create an algorithmic myth of colorblindness. The ubiquity of correlations in big data combined with the flexibility and complexity of machine learning means that one cannot rule out the consideration of protected characteristics, such as race, even when one formally excludes them. Moreover, using …

The Banker Removal Power, Da Lin, Lev Menand Jan 2022

The Banker Removal Power, Da Lin, Lev Menand

Faculty Scholarship

The Federal Reserve (“the Fed”) can remove bankers from office if they violate the law, engage in unsafe or unsound practices, or breach their fiduciary duties. The Fed, however, has used this power so rarely that few even realize it exists. Although major U.S. banks have admitted to repeated and flagrant lawbreaking in recent years, the Fed has never removed a senior executive from one of these institutions.

This Article offers the first comprehensive account of the banker removal power. It makes four contributions. First, drawing on a range of primary sources, it recovers the power’s statutory foundations, showing that …

The Power Of Reciprocity: How The Confederated Salish & Kootenai Water Compact Illuminates A Path Toward Natural Resources Reconciliation, Michelle Bryan

Water Law Review

This article chronicles the negotiation and recent passage of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes Water Compact, which creates one of the most innovative water management regimes envisioned among sovereigns. The Compact's journey toward ratification is extraordinary, as the parties over the span of three decades worked to overcome historically entrenched racism and political opposition to craft a model that would provide enough water for all peoples and the fishery. Compounding the challenge, the Flathead Reservation itself contains vast swaths of checkerboard land held by non-Indians and a major federal irrigation project that has permanently altered the hydrograph of the …

Everything Is Bigger In Texas, Including The Need To Incentivize And Implement Innovative Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems As A Method Of Water Reuse, Haley Varnadoe Jan 2022

Everything Is Bigger In Texas, Including The Need To Incentivize And Implement Innovative Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems As A Method Of Water Reuse, Haley Varnadoe

Water Law Review

Texas will need to adapt to a drier climate and reduced water supply in the 21st century as the negative hydrological effects of climate change continue. Rising temperatures will accelerate evaporation of surface water resources, which in turn both increases reliance on depletable groundwater resources and de creases the amount of surface water available for aquifer recharge. As a result, Texans who rely on either groundwater or surface water to meet their domestic water needs-particularly those in rural aid regions-may suffer as both quantities decrease in the coming decades. The practice of domestic water reuse presents one solution to a …
