Bridging The Gaps: Exploring Factors Associated With Goal Achievement Within An Accountable Care Organization Care Coordination Program, Jessica L. Polk Jan 2022

Bridging The Gaps: Exploring Factors Associated With Goal Achievement Within An Accountable Care Organization Care Coordination Program, Jessica L. Polk

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Background: Healthcare cost in the U.S. has been increasing at an unsustainable rate due to the growing population diagnosed with multiple chronic conditions and a fragmented healthcare system. The high-risk patient population includes persons who over utilize the healthcare system with frequent avoidable hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and exacerbations of their chronic conditions. This high-risk population makes up five percent of the U.S. but accounts for over fifty percent of all healthcare spending. Care coordination models have emerged to focus proactive health interventions for the highest-risk patient populations to reduce overutilization and empower patients to improve long-term health. Evidence has …

Neosublime, Reframing The Philosophical, Kathy Varadi Jan 2022

Neosublime, Reframing The Philosophical, Kathy Varadi

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Why have the sunsets and sunrises become so amazingly colorful and awe inspiring recently? Eighteenth century philosophers said such events were examples of the sublime. They defined the sublime as that which is the most absolutely great combined with an underlying element of fear usually caused by the actions of God. This infers that the sublime is something that you can’t fully understand or wrap your head around and leaves you speechless and spell bound. Contemporary art critics say that the sublime is no longer applicable to art because it has been overused. I disagree, and in my art, I …

Incremental Cluster Validity Index-Guided Online Learning For Performance And Robustness To Presentation Order, Leonardo Enzo Brito Da Silva, Nagasharath Rayapati, Donald C. Wunsch Jan 2022

Incremental Cluster Validity Index-Guided Online Learning For Performance And Robustness To Presentation Order, Leonardo Enzo Brito Da Silva, Nagasharath Rayapati, Donald C. Wunsch

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

In streaming data applications, the incoming samples are processed and discarded, and therefore, intelligent decision-making is crucial for the performance of lifelong learning systems. In addition, the order in which the samples arrive may heavily affect the performance of incremental learners. The recently introduced incremental cluster validity indices (iCVIs) provide valuable aid in addressing such class of problems. Their primary use case has been cluster quality monitoring; nonetheless, they have been recently integrated in a streaming clustering method. In this context, the work presented, here, introduces the first adaptive resonance theory (ART)-based model that uses iCVIs for unsupervised and semi-supervised …

De-Embedding For Coupled Three-Port Devices, Yuandong Guo, Bo Pu, Donghyun Kim, Jun Fan

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

In many applications, the device under test (DUT) is embedded into a test setup. Various de-embedding techniques have been proposed to expose the real electrical behaviors of a DUT, e.g., the traditional thru-reflect-line and short-open-load-thru algorithms, where the T-matrix and its inverse form are adopted in the mathematical process. In the fields of radiofrequency and electromagnetic compatibility, a DUT may have three coupled ports, and the symmetry in the associated S-matrix breaks down, because the numbers of entry and exist ports are not equal, which results in a non-square T-matrix based upon the definitions. Given that the inverse expression of …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The emerging Internet-of-things (IoT) systems contain a large number of small wireless devices with limited energy, communication, and computational capabilities. In such systems, a helping station located between the IoT devices and backhaul servers can be deployed to broadcast the IoT devices to the backhaul networks. This paper investigates a hybrid energy-efficient framework using multiple energy harvested relays with data buffering capabilities. The relays are powered by a hybrid energy supply consisting of a traditional electric grid and renewable energy grid. We propose an energy efficient novel approach aiming to support the wireless uplink transmission from IoT devices to backhaul …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Introduction: Fatty acid–binding protein 3 (FABP3) is a biomarker of neuronal membrane disruption, associated with lipid dyshomeostasis—a notable Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathophysiological change. We assessed the association of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) FABP3 levels with brain amyloidosis and the likelihood/risk of developing amyloidopathy in cognitively healthy individuals. Methods: FABP3 levels were measured in CSF samples of cognitively healthy participants, > 60 years of age (n = 142), from the Australian Imaging, Biomarkers & Lifestyle Flagship Study of Ageing (AIBL). Results: FABP3 levels were positively associated with baseline brain amyloid beta (Aβ) load as measured by standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR, standardized β …

An Autoethnographic Reflection Of My Academic Privileges While Working With High School Interns, Eric Hogan Jan 2022

An Autoethnographic Reflection Of My Academic Privileges While Working With High School Interns, Eric Hogan

Curriculum, Foundations & Reading: Faculty Publications

In this article, I explore my academic privileges through using the autoethnographic method while working in an alternative school and with interns hired for an agricultural internship. Academic privilege is contextualized as those factors in an education setting that benefit some and not all; with consideration of various personal and social factors including, but not limited to, skin color, aspects of identity, economic disparity, resource availability, social relationships, social settings, etcetera. Data collection involved observations within the school and when working with the interns. There were also informal conversations. The observations and informal conversations were documented as field notes to …

Changing My Language And Understanding: An Autoethnography Of My Dumb-Upness, Eric Hogan Jan 2022

Changing My Language And Understanding: An Autoethnography Of My Dumb-Upness, Eric Hogan

Curriculum, Foundations & Reading: Faculty Publications

Education, in its many forms, is an institution that mirrors the society around it, including its patterns of privilege and marginalization (Marx, et al., 2017). The purpose of this article is to provide a reflection of my experiences while working alongside four interns from an alternative school hired to work for an agricultural internship. I highlight my shifting perspectives through an autoethnography. Autoethnographic projects use selfhood, subjectivity, and personal experience (“auto”) to describe, interpret, and represent (“graphy”) beliefs, practices, and identities of a group or culture (“ethno”). (Adams and Herrmann 2020). After working with four interns, I was confronted with …
