Effects Of Varying Ph, Temperature, And Sucrose Concentration On The Activity Of Invertase Enzyme, B. Rainwater, S. Pratihar Feb 2026

Effects Of Varying Ph, Temperature, And Sucrose Concentration On The Activity Of Invertase Enzyme, B. Rainwater, S. Pratihar

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

The purpose of this research is to study the factors that affect the enzymatic activity of invertase, extracted from baker’s yeast, on hydrolysis of sucrose in aqueous medium. Invertase, a glycoprotein, is an enzyme in the glycoside hydrolase family. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of sucrose producing equimolar mixture of a-D-glucose and b-D-fructose. Invertase shows high affinity for the substrate, and is capable of both cleaving the glycosidic linkage in sucrose and transferring ab-D-O-fructofuranoside residue to an acceptor substrate. (Toledo et al. 2019). A detailed mechanism of the action of invertase was postulated by Shall et al. (Shall et al. 1971). …

Autoimmune Encephalitis: The Psychological Impact Of Brain Inflammation, Ophelia Hyde Feb 2026

Autoimmune Encephalitis: The Psychological Impact Of Brain Inflammation, Ophelia Hyde

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Autoimmune Encephalitis (AE) is a disease in which the cells of the immune system attack the brain, causing inflammation also known as encephalitis. Brain Inflammation diminishes its proper functioning and can severely impact basic processing skills. The presentation of AE is difficult to identify, because it varies depending on the antibodies involved and the location of inflammation. Autoimmune encephalitis can gradually worsen over time, and can even be fatal. The disease is rare, but as diagnosis methods improve, more and more cases are being discovered. Autoimmune Encephalitis has been found to be more common in women than men. There …

Physical Therapy Faculty Articles and Research

Biomarkers play an important role in Alzheimer's disease (AD) clinical trials in several contexts of use, including defining trial eligibility and serving as outcome measures. Utilizing clinicaltrials.gov, a registry of clinical trials, we assessed biomarker usage across all active AD disease-targeted therapeutic (DTT) trials. Biomarkers are widely used in AD DTT trials, with 84% including a fluid, imaging, and/or digital biomarker, either as an inclusion criterion or as an outcome measure. In DTT trials, biomarkers were included in 83% of Phase 3 trials, 91% of Phase 2 trials, and 72% of Phase 1 trials. Biomarkers were used for trial inclusion …

Evaluating The Implementation Of Oregon's Dsm-5-Informed Autism Eligibility Revisions: Interest-Holder Perspectives And Policy Implications, Bradley Josef Hendershott Feb 2026

Evaluating The Implementation Of Oregon's Dsm-5-Informed Autism Eligibility Revisions: Interest-Holder Perspectives And Policy Implications, Bradley Josef Hendershott

Dissertations and Theses

Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), states establish their own autism spectrum disorder (ASD) eligibility criteria, resulting in substantial interstate variation and frequent misalignment with medical diagnostic standards. In 2019, Oregon revised its ASD eligibility criteria by directly incorporating DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, reflecting proponents' theory of action that this alignment would improve conceptual clarity, identification accuracy, and coherence across educational and medical systems. While an early implementation study documented generally positive early effects reported by evaluators, no research has systematically examined whether the DSM-5 alignment achieved its anticipated effects, how the revised criteria function after multiple years of …

State Siting Of Renewable Energy – Preemptive Power Grab Or Power Play?, Sarah Everhart Feb 2026

State Siting Of Renewable Energy – Preemptive Power Grab Or Power Play?, Sarah Everhart

Duke Environmental Law & Policy Forum

The United States needs more—and cleaner—energy. Experts project that in the near future, the United States will need to significantly increase its electricity generation. Currently, the burning of fossil fuels remains a significant source of power generation in the United States. However, these fossil fuels produce greenhouse gases that are one of the main drivers of the impending and likely disastrous, climate change. Therefore, it has never been more vital to decarbonize the energy sector. However, there are two significant impediments to the deployment of renewable energy: restrictive local siting laws and community opposition.

According to the Sabin Center for …

Offshore Wind In Vertically-Integrated Versus Deregulated Models: Considerations For State Policymakers, Caroline Daniel Feb 2026

Offshore Wind In Vertically-Integrated Versus Deregulated Models: Considerations For State Policymakers, Caroline Daniel

Duke Environmental Law & Policy Forum

Energy law scholars and economists have long studied the theoretical differences between vertically-integrated and deregulated models of electricity regulation. Now, diverse regulatory approaches and advances in renewable electricity technology present the opportunity to go beyond the abstract. This case study applies tenets of energy law and economic theory to offshore wind initiatives to concretize lessons of a clean energy transition for state policymakers going forward.

By comparing Virginia’s and New York’s offshore wind ventures, this analysis lends nuance and practicality to otherwise abstract energy regulation principles. These states are leaders in the volatile offshore wind industry, a target for the …

Environmental Law’S Missing Piece: The Right To Nature, Ori Sharon Feb 2026

Environmental Law’S Missing Piece: The Right To Nature, Ori Sharon

Duke Environmental Law & Policy Forum

For decades, environmental law has been trapped in a binary value system: it either treats nature instrumentally, as property to be used for human benefit, or views it as intrinsically valuable, deserving protection for its own sake. Both approaches, though ethically powerful, have struggled to deliver consistent and enforceable protections. As ecological crises deepen, this conceptual stalemate is no longer just inadequate—it is dangerous.

This article argues that environmental law remains structurally incomplete. It has overlooked a third category of value—relational value—long recognized in ethics and conservation science but largely absent from legal doctrine. Relational values arise from the lived, …

The Relationship Between Social Determinants And Primary Care Utilization Among Medicaid Recipients In A Managed Care Community Health Worker Program, Rachel Elaine Rosensteel Feb 2026

The Relationship Between Social Determinants And Primary Care Utilization Among Medicaid Recipients In A Managed Care Community Health Worker Program, Rachel Elaine Rosensteel

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Community health worker (CHW) programs are an increasingly important strategy for addressing social determinants of health (SDOH) within Medicaid systems. However, evidence on how specific SDOH impact healthcare utilization remains limited. In this quantitative, correlational study, the relationship between SDOH factors like housing instability, food insecurity, and transportation barriers, and primary care utilization among adult Medicaid recipients aged 18–65 who participated in a Medicaid managed care organization’s CHW program in Clark County, Nevada, during 2023 were examined. Retrospective administrative data from 441 participants were analyzed using negative binomial regression to assess associations between SDOH factors and postintervention primary care visits …

Assessing The Appropriateness Of Mental Health Patients For Telehealth Care, Jacquelyn Hamed Feb 2026

Assessing The Appropriateness Of Mental Health Patients For Telehealth Care, Jacquelyn Hamed

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project developed an evidence-based clinical practice guideline (CPG) to address the inconsistent selection of patients for telepsychiatry services. Using the Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice model and evaluated through the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation II (AGREE II) instrument, the project translated research findings into a practical tool for improving clinical decision-making. Telepsychiatry has been shown to produce outcomes comparable to in-person care for mild to moderate psychiatric conditions. However, without clear criteria, some patients with complex or high-acuity disorders are inappropriately scheduled for virtual visits, posing safety and quality risks. The CPG …

When Tokenized Real-World Assets Collide With Real World, Biying Cheng, David J. Reiss

Cornell Law Faculty Publications

The city of Detroit filed a public nuisance lawsuit in July of last year in the Michigan Circuit Court for the Third Judicial Circuit against Real Token, its co-founders and 165 affiliated entities, alleging building code and safety violations across over 400 Detroit residential properties.[1] RealT is a blockchain real estate platform that sells fractional interests in individual U.S. rental properties through the issuance of crypto security tokens.

On July 22, the judge issued a temporary restraining order — later converted into a preliminary injunction on Nov. 4 — barring RealT from collecting rent, pursuing evictions without a certificate of …

The Effects Of Patient Care In Relation To Toxic Workplace Environments, Kayla Fitzgerald Feb 2026

The Effects Of Patient Care In Relation To Toxic Workplace Environments, Kayla Fitzgerald

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Background: Bullying in the workplace setting is a significant issue that can severely impact one’s career. Bullying can be demonstrated in several forms- such as verbal abuse, isolation, intimidation, and physical harm. Specific to nursing practice, workplace bullying is shown to have negative effects on mental health, patient care, and overall job satisfaction. While there are no definite means that organizations will take complete action towards this ongoing issue, several implementations can be instilled to reduce the incidence of workplace bullying.

Methods: In this project, studies of negative work environments, specifically workplace bullying, and patient care were critiqued and synthesized. …

Exploring The Impact Of Intersectional Identity On Maternal Morbidity/Birth Outcomes Among Afro-Latinas In Florida, Alexa Parra, Cynthia Lebron, Michaela Larson, Yue Pan, Jonell Potter, Hudson Santos Feb 2026

Exploring The Impact Of Intersectional Identity On Maternal Morbidity/Birth Outcomes Among Afro-Latinas In Florida, Alexa Parra, Cynthia Lebron, Michaela Larson, Yue Pan, Jonell Potter, Hudson Santos

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Background: The “Hispanic/Latina Paradox" is a phenomenon where Latina women and their infants have perinatal and birth outcomes similar to those of White women. This is often seen as a protective mechanism that helps reduce maternal health inequities. However, this paradox overlooks the fact that there are different subgroups of Latina women, including Afro-Latinas, who are often neglected when addressing racial disparities related to perinatal birth outcomes in the US. The intersectionality of multiple minority identities may put Afro-Latinas at a disadvantage in terms of perinatal health outcomes.

Objective: Determine differences in maternal morbidity, including pregnancy-related hypertension and diabetes, and …

Non-Waivability In Labour Law: A Foundational Principle In Transition, Guy Davidov, Cynthia Estlund Feb 2026

Non-Waivability In Labour Law: A Foundational Principle In Transition, Guy Davidov, Cynthia Estlund

Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal

EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS SECURED IN LEGISLATION cannot be waived by employee consent. This is almost a trite proposition, a truism that labour lawyers and students usually take for granted.

Non-Waivability In Labour Law: An Australian Perspective, Joellen Riley Munton Feb 2026

Non-Waivability In Labour Law: An Australian Perspective, Joellen Riley Munton

Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal

Australian industrial relations laws traditionally provided detailed mandatory standards through a system of arbitrated occupation-based awards. In the years since a shift to enterprise bargaining, the system has tolerated a greater level of flexibility, even in the way that legislated minima are framed. The options for waiving otherwise mandatory standards are, however, limited by procedural protections. The Fair Work Commission maintains a supervisory role to ensure that workers are “better off overall” as a consequence of their bargains. This article explains the many ways in which Australian labour standards permit flexible application, within constraints designed to preclude exploitative practices.

The Non-Waivability Principle: Possible Derogations From Collective Bargaining And Re-Assessment Of Individual Bargaining In Assisted Procedures, Elena Gramano, Silvio Sonnati

Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal

This article examines the evolving landscape of Italian labour law, with a focus on the principle of non-waivability and its gradual adaptation to demands for flexibility and competitiveness. Traditionally, the Italian labour law framework has been characterised by a strong non-waivability regime, which protects employees from negotiating away their rights due to inherent power imbalances vis-à-vis employers. However, recent regulatory developments have facilitated a shift towards both collective and individual agreements that allow deviations from statutory provisions, including to the detriment of employees. The article analyses the implications of this trend, exploring key regulatory models that enhance the role of …

Waiver Of Statutory Employment Rights In The United Kingdom, Hugh Collins Feb 2026

Waiver Of Statutory Employment Rights In The United Kingdom, Hugh Collins

Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal

The common law endorses the principle of freedom of contract, but, with few exceptions, Parliament has explicitly prevented straightforward waivers of statutory employment rights. Nevertheless, for the sake of promoting settlements of claims by employees, it is surprisingly easy for individual employees to enter into agreements to compromise claims for breach of those rights without appropriate safeguards such as independent advice and freedom from pressure. Moreover, employers’ lawyers have demonstrated considerable ingenuity in finding ways to avoid the application of employment rights either by manipulations of employment status or by seeking contractual agreements on the facts of the case that …

Derogability By Collective Agreements In Germany And The Presumption, Eva Kocher Feb 2026

Derogability By Collective Agreements In Germany And The Presumption, Eva Kocher

Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal

The promotion of derogability clauses, which allow collective agreements to deviate from statutory protection to the detriment of employees, has been an issue in the political debate on German labour law for some 20 years. While such derogability clauses can effectively allow for flexibility at the company or sectoral level, there are differing views on their suitability for promoting collective bargaining. This article highlights the paradox of such derogability clauses: They are legitimised by the presumption of fairness that underpins collective autonomy; at the same time, they create incentives for employers that challenge the very presumption of fairness. All in …
